Cute 4 year old outperforms Reba McEntire

Sagemind says...

An interesting Quote:

"Fancy" is my strongest statement for women's lib, if you really listen to it. I agree wholeheartedly with that movement and all the serious issues that they stand for — equality, equal pay, day care centers, and abortion rights."
---Bobbie Gentry, Singer Songwriter

Paul Simon is so Cool! Brings fan on stage

spoco2 says...

Oh my...

That was pretty damn awesome. I may be a little misty eyed right now.

Paul Simon is an amazing singer/songwriter who has made such iconic music, so the thought of being on being brought up on stage to play his song along side him (would have been cooler if he'd joined in, then you could say you'd actually played with Paul Simon) is a pretty damn awesome thought indeed.

Warren William Zevon (January 24, 1947 – September 7, 2003) was an American rock singer-songwriter and musician noted for including his strange, sardonic opinions of life in his musical lyrics, composing songs that were sometimes humorous and often had political or historical themes.

He came down with "inoperable mesothelioma", which he refused treatments and started on his final album.

According to the wiki, he was diagnosed with cancer in 2002 which killed him

Undercover Karaoke with Jewel

Deano says...

I have heard of her but I'm not sure she's ever been so mega-successful that I could name one of her songs. I think I heard a poppy one a few years ago and felt it was so-so. Still, an enjoyable bit of marketing I guess.

I did karoake once in Cyprus. After 18 southern comfort and cokes. It was not pretty.

Gangsta Twee "Lightbulb" Video

Actually Ironic

Krupo says...

Love Haricot's analysis.. though what really bothers me here is the fall weather in the background. You really do need the Canadian winter to nail the original video's mood.

@spoco (there really needs to be a way to put my response BELOW the quote... is there?) - You should really hang out with more singer-songwriters to learn that... no wait, just stay away from them, to keep the peace.

>> ^spoco2:
In Morisette's own words

"For me the great debate on whether what I was saying in ‘Ironic’ was ironic wasn’t a traumatic debate. I’d always embraced the fact that every once in a while I’d be the malapropism queen. And when Glen and I were writing it, we definitely were not doggedly making sure that everything was technically ironic. It’s a testament to the fact that we didn’t think it was going to be put under the microscope by 30 million people. For me the sweetest moment came in New York when a woman came up to me in a record store and said, ‘So all those things in the “Ironic” aren’t ironic.’ And then she said, ‘And that’s the irony.’ I said, ‘Yup.’ To me it’s a real snapshot of a nineteen-year-old’s definition and version of how life worked at the time. All that ‘Ironic’ touches on spawned all my future inquiries into and current understandings of the mysteries of life."

Which basically means... "Um, so I hate the english language and really can't be f cked using words correctly". In saying 'we definitely were not doggedly making sure that everything was technically ironic' she misses the point that NONE of them were. I mean, she does didn't have a friggen clue what the word meant. And you'd think that if you're going to write a whole song about the word you might actually at least spend a few minutes finding out if you understand its meaning... because she obviously didn't. It really grates that song... really does, so this makes me happy.

How To Play Your Casio Keyboard

dystopianfuturetoday says...

I want to know this guy's back story. He seems to have some bitterness towards musicians.

I bet he was once the lead singer/songwriter of some serious, political, prog-rock band, but grew angry at his bandmates for showing up 10-15 minutes late and constantly missing rehearsals to play paying gigs. One day in frustration at not having his bandmates available to help him demo out some songs, he bought a Casio and fell in love.

He kicked his band mates out of the band, threw away his torn jeans, white t-shirts and leather jacket, bought himself a bright yellow shirt with keyoards on it and started his career afresh. His Casio songs were completely rejected by consumers, but they did prove to be impressive tech demos. Soon he was snatched up by Casio to create instructional videos and the rest is history.

Vanishing Point: Kowalski reaches complete freedom

schmawy says...

I love this movie. Here's the trivia section from IMDB:

* Charlotte Rampling had a role as a hitchhiker whom Kowalski met while en route, but her scenes were deleted before the US release. The scenes were re-inserted for the UK release. The DVD release includes both the US and UK versions.

* The car featured in the film is a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, with a 440 cubic-inch V-8, and not a 426 Hemi V-8 (as is often believed). Five white Challengers loaned from the Chrysler Corporation were used during the filming.

* The Challenger had Colorado plates: OA-5599

* There were actually four 440 Challenger R/Ts and one 383 Challenger R/T, which was an automatic with green interior. This one was used for some exterior shots and it pulled the 1967 Camaro up to speed so the Camaro could hit the bulldozers. As confirmed by property master Dennis J. Parrish, all of the cars were NOT originally white. They were just painted white for the film. During the scene where Kowalski has a flat tire, you can see green paint in the dents.

* Cameo: [David Gates] The singer/songwriter (of Bread fame) played the piano during the rousing revival in the desert with the J. Hovah singers.

* The city names on the California Highway Patrol tracking board (where Kowalski never made it) were Stockton, Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco.

* Director Richard C. Sarafian's original choice for the role of Kowalski was Gene Hackman, but the studio, 20th Century Fox, insisted on using Barry Newman if the movie was going to be made.

* The color white was chosen for the car simply so the car would stand out against the background scenery in the movie. White was not symbolic in any way. The director says this in the DVD commentary.

* A 1967 Camaro shell (no engine) loaded with explosives was used for the final crash. You can see the "Camaro" fender nameplate upside-down in the lower left corner of the screen after the crash.

The Dears ~ Whites Only Party

rosekat says...

Yeah, lead singer/songwriter Murray Lightburn is pretty damned righteous! Class struggles/oppression are common subjects throughout the band's catalogue. That, and tragically romantic heartache-- somehow ALWAYS with dash or dose of hope.
