Motorcycle chase through Shopping Mall

00Scud00 says...

I doubt it would matter, I think this guy sees everything as a motorcycle lane. Kinda reminds me of that race through a shopping mall you can do in Saint's Row 2 though.

They really should mark the motorcycle lanes better.

Doctor Disobeys Gun Free Zone -- Saves Lives Because of It

Trancecoach says...

A law concerning gun use that has an effect in Australia will not have the exact same effect in the U.S. because people in the U.S. will not react the exact same way to the law. For example, after Democrats began passing gun control legislation last year, gun manufacturers began refusing to sell guns to police departments in protest against the legislation. Democrats eventually backed down. This was a reaction to the law that was not observed in Australia; the effect of a law is defined by the reaction of those who are subject to it.

EDIT: You might also take into consideration why most of these mass shootings occur in places that are 'Gun Free' zones (e.g., schools, theaters, hospitals, shopping malls, etc.). By increasing the gun control laws, you are, in essence, increasing the number and amount of 'gun free' zones, but not reducing the number or amount of the mass shootings.

Solar FREAKIN' Roadways!

Sagemind says...

Ok, The reality of replacing roads at this point is near impossible. the Gradual replacement makes sense. Consider starting with parking lots.
Parking lots, then the odd connection between parking lots, and then public spaces, (I like the Time Square idea). but the project has huge merit.

Forget about the small time claims, like melting snow. Think of real time uses, like Stadium parking, Shopping Malls, Playgrounds.... Fast food restaurants, Wall Mart Parking lots...

When I drove over the ass end corner of a late 80s BMW in the parking lot of a shopping mall while making an improper tight turn. All I could do was leave a note and go on my way.

They ended up contacting the company.

If the guy actually thought he could get away with cutting on the road without a permit or some form of paperwork and backtrack responsibility.. that guy would be pretty stupid, most people that do that work know there is a paper trail.

hrmmmm.

** I should note I was in a 5 tonne flatbed delivery truck in a tight parking lot ( got lost -bad directions..*cough*)

Unmanned: America's Drone Wars trailer

A10anis says...

There will never be an easy solution, but in discussing drones there are points that deserve deliberation;
The Pakistani government cannot be seen, publicly, to condone drone strikes. However, given the carnage being done by the taliban, which they are finding difficult to contain, behind the scenes they actually do.
Terrorists existed long before drones and to believe that ceasing their use would reduce terrorism is naive and dangerous.
Manned or unmanned - and no matter what care is taken - weapons cause collateral damage. But these weapons can be highly effective, as was demonstrated in the "taking out" of the pakistani taliban leader last week.
If the terrorists had the same technology they would, certainly, use it. At the moment they are restricted to suicide bombers and maniacs with AK's who massacre innocents in schools or shopping malls etc. If/when they acquire chemical, biological, or atomic weapons you will see just how "restrained" in there use they truly are.
All weapons can be used for evil. The difference is, who controls them and how they are used. You just have to ask yourself, who would you prefer to hold the military advantage?

Wonder how the place has lasted so long without indoor shopping malls

Man Calls JPMorgan Chase CEO A Crook To His Face

No doubt, the best deals get done. The two I have in mind as examples are either under construction or fully built. When you have firm tenant commitments with specific requirements there is money out there that will back the project. In one case an institutional investor partnered with the developer to fund the project. In the other the developers got cash from just about everywhere and anywhere they could to meet the equity requirement.

What happened in my market is a "flight to quality" or "flight to safety". Basically tenants and developers stopped looking at the green belt (developing outer edges) and started looking at the strongest parts of the local market. That means the CBD and established communities. These deals are harder, but they are safer. Thus the "easy" deals in the developing (speculative) communities ended.

The idea that there are a bunch of empty shopping malls isn't really true. Vacancy rates spiked several years ago yes, but since then the amount of new space to market (supply) has dropped.

When I recently surveyed four communities in Central, IL (Bloomington/Normal, Springfield, Decatur, & Champaign/Urbana) I found that there is very little available retail space. Same goes for the Chicago Loop.

I agree we need infrastructure investment but we also need let the market dictate where new construction is going to take place because each market is different. Location location location. If the fundamentals make sense we need to build.

I understand times are tight. That's bankers being responsible, whether voluntarily or at the government's request. They were broke and need to rein in the lending. Tighter standards means it's expected that projects once referred to as "good" are no longer viewed that way. It's tough, but you adapt. If everything is right with the deal, someone will finance. Where there is profit, there is a businessman.

I feel for the laid off construction workers, but frankly there was a bubble. We have HUGE housing developments that are sitting empty and going for 40k a house. We have a glut of empty shopping malls. We don't need more right now. If there is construction to be done right now I firmly believe it is public infrastructure investment we need. Rail, road, bridges, power, etc. That'll put people back to work.

Jamie Dimon has a good rolodex. In todays world, being a good banker means being a good insider trader, and lobbyist. I have about zero patience for their manipulation of our democracy let alone our markets.

Perry For President

garmachi says...

I'm open to arguments to the contrary. Here's my position. This belongs in the *terrible channel.

As in: "who greenlighted this turd?!?" Rick Perry did, that's who. And if he sincerely believes that the people he wishes to lead will be easily sucked in by images of the incumbent juxtaposed with images of empty warehouses and rain, and the sounds of alarms (seriously, watch again and listen - klaxons signal our impending doom under the current administration)... if he believes that, then our political landscape is far more bleak than a shopping mall in whatever zombie flick this trailer was lifted from.

No one with more than ten percent of a brain can watch this and not cringe and/or feel embarrassed for the producers, actors, and other participants. That, to me... defines "terrible" on many levels.
