The Onion- Do Glass Pipes, Incense Prove Shamanism?

Please and Thank You and Howdoyoudo (Politics Talk Post)

^I'll remind you as well, that the man who offers the observations above, has let his own guard down with regard to character and right conduct on this site and all of the motherfuckers I poked and prodded deserved it, including myself-I don't hate you thinker247....I hate your mother for having you.

Now see, that is what is known as a joke, son. Not to be taken as a personal attack....I am simply pushing the buttons you have offered me to initiate a response. My suggestion is that you get out more, maybe get a real person to have a relationship with, perhaps volunteer down at the children's hospital, maybe read a few books without the aid of a computer monitor, join a softball team....exercize?? I dunno, try some fucking peyote with a shaman who can help you find your power creature..You are a child-

I think I like this show. It's like Antiques Roadshow for crackheads and meth addicts.

Seriously, there was this one where this pot head came in with some sort of shamanic totem and tried to sell it. It was awesome in many ways. First off the bald dude called in an expert who actually confirmed that the thing was authentic, but more awesome was him still turning it down because he didn't know who the eff would ever want to buy it...

Psychedelic Origins of Xmas: Pharmacratic Inquisition

Trancecoach says...

From Google Video: For further research of the claims made in this video, AstroTheology & Shamanism: Thousands of years ago, in the pre monarchic era, sacred plants and other entheogenic substances highly respected for their ability to bring forth the divine, Yahweh, God, The Great Spirit, etc., by the many cultures who used them.

Often the entire tribe or community would partake in the entheogenic rites and rituals. These rites were often used an initiation into adulthood, for healing, to help guide the community in the decision process, and to bring the direct religious experience to anyone seeking it. In the pre literate world, the knowledge of psychedelic sacraments, as well as fertility rites and astronomical knowledge surrounding the sun, stars, and zodiac, known as astrotheology, were anthropomorphized into a character or a deity; consequently, their stories & practices could easily be passed down for generations. Weather changes over millennia caused environmental changes that altered the availability of foods and plant sacraments.

If a tribe lost its shamanic El-der (El - God), all of the tribe's knowledge of their plant sacraments as well as astronomical knowledge would be lost. The Church’s inquisitions extracted this sacred knowledge from the local Shamans, who were then exterminated.

It's here Except... they've edited it now (there's a note on the top).
The original, moronic, quote was "People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn't have a chance in the UK, where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless."

Jesus, what sort of lies are they spreading out there? I mean, the actions of our utterly clueless government with their policies of neglect has over a period of what, 20-30 years? resulted in the NHS being dirty, understaffed and wasteful. But people talking about the NHS as though it's a place where people with a fag on (smoking a cigarette for my overseas brethren) condemn people to death or disfigurement over a heap of organs and body parts for any illness that can't be cured by tablets makes me a little bit agitated.

20-30 years ago, the NHS was an amazing system and i wouldn't have traded it for any other country's system. For the level of care and attention and competency you couldn't have been reliant on anything better.

The brutal fact is that we only moan about it so much because we're used to perfection. I'd still take the NHS over any other even today.

It's an horrific shame that politicians will lie so badly to their own people (in this case americans, but it happens all over the world). I could walk into my local hospital right now and get healthcare of an equal or better standard than the average american person with the average health insurance. It's still a brilliant service, it's just not perfect anymore.

I just had a wave of tragic angst that we haven't moved on. We're still like the tribes we used to be, with our great elected shaman stood on a mound in front of us, arms raised, telling us with religious certainty that the eclipse was because the sun god is angry and we must place more meat on the sacrificial altar tonight. Then later he has a lovely beef steak and his pick of the virgins. We haven't moved on, we're still being led around by lies and assurances from people who are as lost as we are.

So the shaman waves his hands and a million americans believe that the NHS is an evil boneyard.

this person already feels that obama is the anti-christ.if i used this very poorly though out premise i could prove THIS man was the anti-christ.and to end it with that disclaimer../shakes head...thats like saying something dissrespectful to someone by prefacing "in all due respect" im gonna say something really shitty, but i mean no dissrespect.
i have posted before, but let me do so again for the sake of being thorough:
/takes a big breath...
satan does not exist.
the original bible was translated,as the video states, from aramaic to greek.
the sepaquintic translations fail many times(to the tune of around 22,000).
the hebrew word s'tn :meaning "diabolic=devil" as a noun and "adversary, adversarial" as an adjective.
so s'tn became satan,it was the church that used this as a rallying point.it has nothing to do with actual scriptural text.
so if satan doesnt exist that means???
yes,hell doesnt exist.
original sin was created by the church, not by jesus.
secondly, and this is just for fun.
there was a large community around the period of jesus that believed that prophecy had already happened.that the coming, ministry and resurection WAS the final judhement prophesized not by the book of john(hadnt been written yet) but by the more ancient hebrew texts concerning the messiah.
they were preterists.
thirdly,because i cant resist.
the book of john was a last minute addition to the bible.yes yes..it seems divine providence is a huge procrastinator around 325 a.d. just after the council of nicea.
the book of john was chosen over "the revelation of paul" due to its graphic imagery and imaginative span.which was most likely due to the fact that john was a strict sophian gnostic and practiced shamanism by ingesting magic mushrooms(this is only specualtion, but i find it hilarious)hence the more skillfully written prophecy of paul was beaten by a zealot who loved psychadelics.my point is that no gospel in the bible references jesus speaking about the book of john, though many christians are led to believe otherwise.
thank you for playing, dont forget to tip your bartenders.
good night.

If he was levitating by his own power, he wouldn't have to over-correct himself with his body mass..
If he had the power to do it, it should technically be up, down, and strafing without having to move body parts for balance.

Ah, it appears we have an expert here to tell us all about how levitation works.

Yeah, right?
What gives, Shep? Can you tell me what happened to the leprechaun that used to sleep outside my window? I miss him.

I ate him.

is Bi-polar really a spiritual awakening?

enoch says...

i agree with endall, shamanism is not a new thing.it has been used over the centuries to change our perceptions of reality.humans are limited in their ability to perceive actual reality,we have 5 senses which are our only connection to the physical universe.to say we KNOW conclusively just because our 5 senses tell us so is inaccurate.the brain is the decipherer of these senses, and it is wholly subjective, predicated on our experiences, knowledge and yes...our ego.which is just a construct of who we think we are,not in actuality who we may be.
http://www.videosift.com/video/Perceiving-Reality-A-useful-philosophy
i also agree with tsquire1,but i have to give this guy credit for asking the ultimate questions:who am i really?why am i here?for what purpose do i serve?
are these not questions we all ask?
this video is this mans answer, condensed im guessing, takes courage to throw it out there for people to appreciate,or many times..attack.people tend to get very defensive when you point to their firmly held beliefs and say "i think your subjective reality is incorrect".

Manifesting the Mind: Sneak Preview

cybrbeast says...

Trancecoach, I agree with the philosophical interpretation of reality. However I'm convinced that science can see somewhat beyond this constricted sense of reality through the use of their instruments and methods. From a scientific point of view these theories make little sense and there is certainly no objective evidence for them. I wouldn't really see how this connection to a universal consciousness would evolve. Do you think bacteria are connected to this world. Or is all matter connected in this way. Why would our brain have evolved this capability without making use of it. The people most connected to this world would be shamans and psychedelic explorers, but I fail to see what they can bring back from this state beyond interesting theories.
This sense of being connected, which is a common theme of many intense visionary states, to me would be more logically explained as disconnecting with your sense of self in your brain and therefor feeling connected to all the other concepts in your brain, other people and life being the most important of those.
