Rally To Restore Sanity - Closing Speech

gwiz665 says...

Restoring sanity and/or fear:
A crowd size estimate commissioned by CBS News and carried out by AirPhotosLive.com estimated the crowd at 215,000 people, plus or minus 10%.

Restoring Honor:
Anywhere from 80k - 1,6 mil (Seriously doubt that last part)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Restoring_Honor_rally#Crowd_size

"CBS News reported that AirPhotosLive estimated 87,000 attended, with a margin of error of 9,000. CBS commissioned the AirPhotosLive.com company to calculate an independent estimate, and said this was the only scientific estimate made of the number of people at the rally.[98] CNN contacted AirPhotosLive about the estimate and were told they had three experts use their own methodologies to estimate the size of the crowd.[99] AirPhotosLive had their image analysts, and Stephen Doig, a professor at Arizona State University who specializes in quantitative research methods, and crowd estimate expert, use the same images to conduct separate estimates. By laying grids over the high-resolution images and counting the density per unit of each grid cell, Doig calculated the crowd size to be 80,000, while an AirPhotosLive analyst arrived at 87,000; a statistically insignificant difference within the margin of error. CBS elected to use the higher figure.[98][79][100]"

That sounds believable - I'd even give them the benefit of the doubt and round up to 100,000.

Honestly, I've never seen that one before. Then again, I was also the guy that once sat under the stars from about midnight to 4AM waiting for my friends to round up snipes. At least this one was over quickly!

Obama vs. Obama on Afghanistan

I know that leaving wouldn't be a perfect option however it's still the only option. Many many more people will die if we stay. We went through the same thing in Vietnam when people thought we should stay, it's wrong and we shouldn't. Although there will probably be some horrific deaths, there will be thousands more if we stay. We must leave.

To be honest, I'm beginning to think more and more that it's your mess, and your responsibility to fix it. Going into Afghanistan was just as ridiculous as going into Iraq. What were the odds that a slow, advancing military force was going to seriously disrupt a fluid cross-national terrorist organisation, let alone catch a single terrorist in its dragnet? Yes, the Taliban openly sponsored Al Qaeda but this doesn't change the fact there is no shortage of decrepit states and governments to which terrorist organisations can relocate like Somalia. It was obvious that if going in the objective was to topple a government, nation building would follow.
Yes, the US has a massive budget deficit and is in no position to fund wars, but equally I don't think you can morally justify bailing and seeing the people who trusted in your willingness to establish a semblance of a functioning state with human rights be rounded up and executed. Biden's plan of leaving a limited force to target terrorist activities will simply not be enough to prevent this. While the kind of parliamentary/ presidential democracy they're going for really has little chance of working because of the lack of pan-national trust and how dependant the political system is on patronage, I think a more decentralised model has a chance, and that's really what I think they should be aiming for.

I disagree, I don't believe it was ridiculous or a mistake. I believe it was instituting a war of aggression which is considered the greatest international crime under the Nuremburg principles. So what happens when someone commits a War of Aggression against someone else? Do we call for them to stay and clean up the mess? No that's ridiculous because asking a population to accept the rule of those who caused them to be in this predicament is laughable. We wouldn't force the Nazi's to stay in Poland and clean up their mess...they have to leave and pay them reparations.

Which is I think the best thing we can do, leave and let possibly the UN or Red Crescent work with Afganistan trying to figure it out while paying reparations. And invading army isn't required to clean up their mess when their presence is what's causing the mess.

I think she is extremist, no doubt. I just want to highlight how much extremism we are willing to tolerate.

And, I have said nothing about all Jews. I think you are reading alot into what I wrote.

Look, don't get me wrong, I am definitely not a fan of Israel, but two wrongs don't make a right. This "moderate" muslim just agreed that rounding up all jews for extermination is a good idea.
Not all jews support Israel or what they do in their poached territories (I sure as hell don't). That said, when someone just knee-jerk says that rounding me up because of what ethnic group I was born into is a good idea, they become an extremist in my eyes and aren't worth shit.

Rachel Maddow: Racist Roots of Arizona Law

azzies says...

What would happen if America kicked out all the so called "illegal" immigrates tomorrow!.. you would lose a good pecentage of your workforce and there would be more jobs that the average American wouldn't want to do..

Things would also start to cost more because these corporations are going to have to at least pay base wages... or at least start opperating out of china or where its cheaper.

This law seems to target the so called immagrates that are problems to the system.. the 10% or so crapping in peoples yards... shouldn't a person crapping in someones yard be locked up for indecent exposure?.. and hence the police would find out if said perosn is "illegal", This law just makes it easier for police to round up the problem illegals and put more fear into the current legal and illegal immagrates.

Personally I think a system where by illegals can become legal without fear of getting deported straight up would work much better.. however I guess it isn't as easy as that cause you still have to deal with those illegal people immargating to America.. maybe having better immagrations laws allowing people in however if they mess up have the ablitiy to kick them out again..

i don't know.. i guess it isn't as easy as that. All I can say is that this law is going to be imposed or abused by police on alot of legal Americans, by them getting locked up because they don't have their papers with them at the time. Well from the sounds of it. heck she couldn't even answer what an illegal looks like. lol and thats a good questions.. what does an illegal immagrate look like.. this is way more then a race issue here this is more of a civil rights issue... reminds me of the bikey gang laws they passed here in Australia.. where by no bikey gangs are allowed to meet.. Well what exactly is classified as bikey gang.. and what if they drive cars... lol my point is any gang could be classified as a bikey gang if the coppers really wanted to nail you... which is the same with illegals anyone could be an illegal so it gives coppers the right to lock anyone up if they can't prove themselves there and then on the spot.. even if its for a couple of hours.. eh.. whatever...

Catholic Church: 2000 years of paedophilia

LOL ill agree to the church going if we can also round up dumb arse people who fall for this glossy shit. POP QUIZ ya dopes, what year was the age of consent introduced? Church is guilty of loads of shit but for fucks sake tie more reason to your hate than a fkin bandwagon. Whats next - all italians are gay because of roman orgies?

It's looking more and more like vietnam, isn't it? The american occupying force ought to get the hell out of there.
quality, not that the video really needs it.

All of the wars since Vietnam have been just like Vietnam. But no one seems to give a shit in the US, and if they do they sure as hell don't fucking act like it.

This is not true. It took years for significant protests of the Vietnam War to make any sort of impact on the situation in the United States or in Indochina. Before there were significant protests Indochina was bombed into oblivion with tons upon tons of war crimes mounting up, millions of people killed land deforested and people rounded up into camps. Although this horrible shocking footage is damning it doesn't compare to the monstrous brutality and murder on a mass scale that Vietnam was.

People do care, Iraq is the first War America has had that had organized large scale resistance before the War was even declared. It's tapered off due to complacency the outstanding work of the media to push it to the side so successfully and the overall Failure of the Left in this country to keep organizing people and bring about a dedicated resistance. Not having a draft and keeping the numbers there as low as possible has helped the media do it's job and point out that this isn't our problem.

It's not hard to start a resistance against this War...the groups exist and the people are out there. If you don't want to see anymore stuff like this either keep watching Lost or stand up together because this all happens in our name.

Quebec story on The young turks,Muslims stirring up trouble

MaxWilder says...

Can we stop with the "You hate Muslims!" bullshit? I have seen nothing in this thread to indicate anybody is targeting Muslims for discrimination.

This is a case of "When in Rome". The regulations of a location, in this case a school, trump the absolute freedom of the individual. When you are at home, you can dress however the hell you want. But when you go to a school, you follow their regulations or stay out.

If you think their regulations are discriminatory, then you can round up some community support and get the regulations changed. If the community thinks your tradition is stupid (and a hell of a lot of westerners think hiding your face is stupid), then you are screwed.

Adapt to your new environment or go home. This is not about religion or discrimination, it is about a newcomer who refuses to adapt to the place they chose to come to, and is instead trying to force their new home to change to accommodate them.
