He's just reading the description on the plates Seriously though, that's a pretty cool exhibit at the ROM. There was also an awesome evolution exhibit at the Museum when I was there a bout a year ago. Not sure if it was permanent...

Pachelbel's Canon robs me of my will to live

there was a time when this song just ripped right through me and all I wanted to do was play it. For several days I did nothing but pour over the sheet music. I hadn't touched a piano since I was 9, but by the end of that week I could play the song through with my eyes closed. I has a power. I just wish they'd stop using it for rom-com wedding scenes. It's better than that. I want it played at my funeral, not my wedding.

Great clip thank you

A lot of older games like this are very unforgiving. Unforgiving games appeal to a smaller demographic, though, so in order for the industry to grow, they've had to ease up.

One thing I notice when I go back and play NES ROMs is that a lot of the games were hard because the controls sucked. Not the physical controller, mind you, but the responsiveness of the game to your input. Some games were even based on this crazy idea that mashing a button ("Press X to not die!") was entertaining.

You should try MK3

I actually installed MAME to check out the original game mechanics of q*bert (and thereby date myself), but when I dropped in an MK rom it was unplayable, as it had some sound glitch which was holding up every frame.

What's the best Star Trek Series? (User Poll by Throbbin)

Sagemind says...

DS9 was slow to start so those who watched and bailed early missed what I feel was the best series. At first I was worried about everything being located on one space station that didn't go anywhere but I think the producers realized it as well.
They did everything they could to jumpstart the series and they succeeded!
Shaving Sisco's head and giving him a new look, Bringing in Worf, Expanding on Odo the Changelings, The defiant (the only federation ship with a cloaking device), Dax was a great Character, even once they had to change symbionts.

DS9 had the deepest character development out of any Star Trek series:
Sisko, Odo, Dax (1&2), Worf, Miles, Quark, Bashir, Kira, Garak and a dynamic supporting cast Gul Dukat, Nog, Rom, Gowron, Lwaxana Troi, Martok, Vash, Leeta, Jake Sisko, the Grand Nagus. The Changelings, Cardasians, Klingons, Bajorans, Humans, Ferengi, the Jem'Hadar...

The ongoing storyline with the war and the occupation gave a great overall setting for the episode stories. It kept serving the characters to us in new ways and let us see into the characters in more depth. I think it was the series with the most mature story line and had the most layers. It was war, intrigue, humor, alliances, secrets, threats, doom, development, exploration and more...

Um, so ya, I voted for DS9

Christian Movie-The Bike King and the Ten Commandments

Chrono Trigger... The whole thing

Man the 16-bit era had some real gems... This being a real doozy, but then again, Square made some of the best SNES RPGS - FF5, FF6, Secret of Mana/Seiken Densetsu (SD 3 was never released stateside, but it is ALL kinds of awesome if you can find a translated rom, not that I advocate video game piracy ...)

A unique battle system, multiple endings, optional characters... I probably put well over 250 hours into it...

PS - you get the "best" ending by starting a new game plus, and warping straight to Lavos just after you meet Marle by checking the sparkle in the teleporter on the right before when Lucca asks for your help during her demonstration. Of course, you'll have to fight Lavos with just Crono and Marle...

Kent Hovind is a fucktard

Alms4him says...

To: eric3579 and all those who are like-minded!

You will see Kent Hovind on the Day you stand before your Creator and Intelligent Designer of all things. Kent Hovind will be sitting in Judgment of you, with the Lord Jesus Christ. You will quiver, wail, and your knees shake and buckle causing you to fall on your face as a dead man, pleading for mercy, but it will be too late!........unless...........you heed this Prophets warning and Repent of your sins and believe in the Lord of Lords, Jesus the Christ.

Did you know the Bible speaks of you Ignoramuses?

Romans 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

1Co 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
1Co 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
1Co 1:19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
1Co 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
1Co 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
1Co 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
1Co 1:23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
1Co 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
1Co 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
1Co 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
1Co 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
1Co 1:28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
1Co 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.

Demo running on custom build 8-bit, 1k ram computer

monojohnny says...

So this has 1kb ram, 8kb ROM (programmable I guess) and its outputting high-res animated colour graphics and sophisticated (4 mins?) music - I would say three channels (maybe four?) including white noise , complicated envelopes (arp'd notes, pitch bend..) and fiddly solos.

Is this all in just 8kb????? How have you managed this??? Does the micro-controller offer a lot of pre-built counters and timers and blitter stuff ?
Are you using compression to fit all this in ???

This is absolutely amazing....
