Reggaeton! (Blog Entry by Eklek)

LadyDeath says...

So you like this kind of music Mr Eklek? First I have to say that Reggaeton music was very popular in my country, Puerto Rico, in the 80s it was very popular underground music scene. Then it got more popular outside Puerto Rico, all over the world in fact. I did not like this music myself, because it always had silly kind of 'war' between 'Goth' or 'Metal' scenes; 'Reggaeton' and 'Rappers' Scene there. I like other kinds of music styles but not this one, LOL! I guess because I grew up seeing people dancing like this - with the "boom boom" bass blaring out of their cars - They tend to hate and discriminate against 'different' people (goth/metal) like myself and others. Interesting videos by the way. Here is more info on wiki -

Actually, I was more making a joke about your beer more than anything.

Not sure what you were referring to here. I was referring to the Canadians I know, not mass media or anything. But even in mass media I think you'd see more Canadians poking fun at the U.S. than vice versa.

The truth is, most Americans don't think twice about Canada. Thanks to our public education system, there's a large portion of us that probably thinks Canada's just another U.S. state, like Puerto Rico or Guam. That's why they're always bemused by the Canadians' jokes.

There are very few Canadians that I know that hold the States in any sort of high esteem.

Having Canadian friends, I know that's true. And yet you guys take every opportunity to take shots at us that you can get, which just comes across to most of us as barely disguised jealously and insecurity.

...and yet YOU guys take every opportunity to take shots at US that you can get, which just comes across as barely disguised douchebaggery and jealousy over the fact we have real beer.

Sarah Palin Confuses Supporters With Hecklers

NordlichReiter says...

If you aren’t for the troops you are against them, that's a fascist stance.

If I want to be against the troops on one subject I will be, if I want to be for them on another I will be. That is the rights afforded to us in the constitution, however these soldiers have defended that right in WWII, and have not since then in a major war.

Even with Vietnam, Korea, the first Gulf war, there were some good reasons to go, but with all of the modern wars... those reasons die out fast. Because war is incoherently wrong, and so ingrained is us as a people.

Every time I go to the theater I see National Guard, showing a Dale jr, kid rock, and a Nat Guard (not a typical guardsmen but some hand picked Thoroughbred)on the wall.

They play the kid rock song that angers:

"So Don’t Tell Me Who's Wrong And Right When Liberty Starts Slipping Away
And If You Aint Gonna Fight Get Out Of The Away
Cuz Freedom Is So Free When You Breathe Red White And Blue I'm Given All Of Myself Cuz Thats What I Do"
http://www.metrolyrics.com/warrior-lyrics-kid-rock.html

I’ve got no problem with that, but when they show it with footage of some middle eastern country I have to take it as pushing an inherently wrong view of where liberty is.

Its like the commercials that have our soldiers in desert camo marching with their heads turned with cool shades on like stereotypical Nazi celebration march, with the stars and stripes in the background. I have come to dislike this view of our country very much.

I would like them to show the true side of war, so that the people who don't know the duality of these things can see what a GSW really looks like.

Other countries have a right to liberty, but its not our Liberty that we are fighting for in Iraq. Our liberty is fought for inside the beltway, and in courts all over the country, and even in the territories of the united states (Puerto Rico).

Same reaction... that is the scariest thing I think I have ever watched, only slightly less discomforting than the famous highwire fall one of the Wallendas in Puerto Rico.

Renewable Energy From The Deep Ocean

Kreegath says...

The currents most likely wouldn't be affected noticably more than the wind is affected by wind power generators.
But just like the poor wind generator preformance, this seems to simply be too expensive an quite frankly ineffective to be of any real use. The way they claim that 40 of these power stations could generate enough electricity for Puerto Rico most likely doesn't take into consideration any other factor than the optimal generation capacity of each of those power stations.

The way they generate electricity is not in question, it seems like a great way to do it. However, if most of it is used to power the process and transport the product to the mainland then it's a lost cause. Would be interesting to hear from someone with knowledge of this and hear how they propose to solve such issues.

Puerto Rico- A Beautiful Paradise

Krupo says...

This is a documentary I found very interesting about My hometown... I think is funny when it says all the time no us passport required lol..For those who Don't know Puerto Rico is a Common wealth with USA that is why we are American Citizens and we need no passport to come to USA or Americans Come To PR,that is why says no passport required...

Because it's a *commercial for Americans without passports (i.e., 80%+ of the population) to come on down.
