Bill O'Reilly Pardons Mike Huckabee For Releasing Cop Killer

artician says...

>> ^thinker247:
Did O'Reilly just say "This is a bad hungry" at :56?

No, he says "hombre", which is "guy" is spanish.

He does say "I don't think anyone who is watching thinks this is your fault", so HEY! He knows his audience!

Seriously, I can understand anyone making a mistake in judgment, but this is a pretty bad one!

I throw myself into your discussion with an interesting link about the dangers of Mike Huckabee. I also get creeped out by Huckabee because he is so damn likable. Even when he talks about the most fundamentalist parts of his religious views, it's impossible not to feel a little fond of him. I actually suspect Huckabee would have won over Obama if he had been the republican nominee instead of McCain.

HAPPY "END OF CAMPAIGN B.S. ON VIDEOSIFT" DAY!!! (Sift Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

What, you think politics stops now?

You think the Republican party is in full surrender after tonight?

You think that Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee won't be filing their candidacy for the 2012 election tomorrow morning?

I'm gonna take a break I think, and bury myself in videogames for the winter (Fallout 3, Gears 2, Resistance 2, and WotLK await, at minimum), but the transition is going to be like an extended Christmas for me, as I hear the names of the new people to replace the Bush thugs spread throughout our government.

Just think, Dick Cheney replaced by Joe Biden. They could all be that much fun.

Bill Maher & Mike Huckabee Discuss Faith

While I generally identify with Bill Mahr's viewpoint, I can definitely see where Huckabee is coming from. My dad is very similar to him and we've had many talks about religion that have helped me understand where he's coming from. Even if I don't agree with him.

Granted there are a huge number of wacko nutjobs like Bill Mahr takes issue with, there are also a large number of people like Mike Huckabee and my dad who believe in this way. So I could totally see where Huckabee was coming from and what he was trying to say.

I thought they both made excellent points even if the result was basically a draw. You'll never get either of those guys to come to an agreement on religion. The mindset, reality, and way of thinking are too far apart to be compatible.

The Missing Story About Joe the Plumber (Election Talk Post)

You tire me out, NetRunner. I cannot imagine even trying to honor your ridiulous claims. Obama and McCain are terrible choices, so I refuse to argue that one should act one way or another because it's befitting of their party to gain a win. That's what you do. Not me.

>> ^blankfist:
Actually, rereading that comment it sounds harsh. When I say you tire me out, I don't mean I tire of our debates. I actually do enjoy debating you, NR. In fact, our PM debates have been some of the most fun I've had on here. You're a great debater and passionate about your party's politics. So, there. I said something nice. Don't tell anyone.

Schizophrenia gets you everywhere. A big Fuck You and a big kiss for you.

My evil plans to help protect voter's rights are too late: the Ohio SCOTUS just did that for me.

To try to pander to your lunatic 3rd party aspirations, I'll repeat some advice I've given previously: if another 3rd party or party outcast (like Paul or Kucinich) gets a money bomb like Paul did, they need to take that money and try to run a campaign that includes TV ads, on-the-ground organization, and a TV-media-interview strategy for having them legitimize you.

Part of why Democrats lost in 2000 and 2004 is because they were up against people who knew how to manipulate the media narrative to their benefit, and the Democrats didn't think that was something they either could or should do (I'm not sure which).

Times have changed. I think the Campaign for Liberty is a possible sign that Paul is realizing that too, I'll be sure if he starts working on getting a libertarian AM radio talk show running.

I also think 3rd parties should try to win some seats in the House, rather than taking futile cracks at the Presidency.

I guess the cynical lesson that's finally been driven into me through this process is that too few people care enough, or are educated enough to even have a glimpse of what policies might be beneficial or harmful -- they mostly go based on the beliefs reinforced by the media they consume.

I know you're a true believer in conservative/libertarian philosophy, but how many people out there voting for Republicans really know what that even is? Joe the PlumberTM sure as shit doesn't. I don't even think Caribou Barbie Sarah Palin does either, and if she does she probably learned it at an Alaska Independence Party meeting.

You guys need another William F. Buckley, who's smart, and charming, and entertaining, who gets on TV and puts the right face on your philosophy. Until that happens, 3rd parties are just going to be a curiosity.

I'm cautiously optimistic that the Republican party as we've known it is about to get shattered. Lots of people are going to be looking at how to reassemble it for 2012. Now might be a good time to get organized to be ready, and get that party back to its roots. I hope Ron Paul wins, but if I had to guess right now we'll be seeing the Mike Huckabee party rise in 2012, and that won't bear any resemblance to a paleo-conservative party at all.

Compare comments in here to comments on Huckabee saying more or less the same thing.

"On this question, "yes" or "no" is all I'll ever need to hear. There is no possible rationale for believing in creationism that will ever assuage my instant judgement of you as a fucking lunatic and likely moron."

Just a reminder that the right wing religious crowd doesn't have a monopoly on hypocrisy and selective criticism.

Huckabee jokes about someone aiming a gun at Obama

NetRunner says...

I actually kinda like Huckabee. He's said some wacky things, but he's also said some good things.

He says that part of his religious beliefs teach him that we should be good stewards of the environment, and that government should take care of the least of us.

I think he's a good guy at heart, and just fell in with some bad people (the Republican party). Unlike most of the other Republican candidates, I think Huckabee still has his soul.

He's a tad ignorant though, and I think he honestly didn't realize what was wrong with what he said.

He's apologized for the comments (at least in the customary Republican way: "I'm sorry you were offended..."), and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

So let me put on my best Chris Crocker impression, and say "LEAVE MIKE HUCKABEE ALONE!"

Election Night Special (Election Talk Post)

NetRunner says...

^ I'm on the fence between these two arguments.

I'll admit, my post includes a bit of kool-aid drinking with regard to a "big win" meaning "did better than expected".

I'll admit, that's an utterly false metric.

I'll also agree with dft that IF beating media expectations should result in real action, this was a good night for Obama. He beat expectations, because the way it's ended up working is what the expectations are about 10 seconds before the polls close. The media has no long-term memory.

That's why it's an utterly false metric.

However, those were also real votes being cast. Popular vote swings by about 200k back to Obama, which nearly wipes out PA. Real delegates also changed hands, and that did wipe out the result in PA.

Obama's still in the lead by every metric even loosely supported by DNC rules. He's very likely to come away with the lead in both pledged delegates and popular vote.

Hillary now needs a 66% share of the uncommitted superdelegates.

Since February 5, Obama has netted 107 superdelegates, and Clinton only 21. Since the Pennsylvania primary, much of it during the challenging Rev. Wright period, Obama netted 24 and Clinton 17.

Hillary's only chance rests on Obama's political assassination.

I think the best thing for her to do is turn into a Democratic version of Mike Huckabee -- stay as long as she likes, but have nothing but good things to say about her opponent, and talk about what she has to offer as a candidate. Don't inflate, conflate or smear, just make a genuine appeal to people on her merits.

She could've won me over early if she'd done that from the beginning.

Cool, thanks. Never thought about it quite like that. I changed the tag.

In reply to this comment by MarineGunrock:
Impression: An imitation of the voice, mannerisms, and other traits of a person, esp. a famous person, as by an entertainer: The comedian did a hilarious impression of the president.

Impersonation: To assume the character or appearance of; pretend to be: He was arrested for impersonating a police officer.

There is a difference. Yes, impersonation can mean to to mimic the voice, mannerisms, etc., of a person in order to entertain, but the word impression exists to solely describe that.
