Robot Chicken - Law & Order, with chickens instead of people

Rachel Maddow: FBI neglects to enforce the FACE act

vairetube says...

She has turned the power of LINKS against "them". joy.

lol zoomed in note... this sounds like a story AFTER it went through the Law and Order filter into a remake: lady and org. tried for homicide for providing information that they should have known would lead to a mans death..

Homeless "Cave" Uncovered In Los Angeles

longde says...

There have been similar encampments in downtown Portland's freeway (there are several that converge in the downtown area.

Portland tried to solve this problem by providing an area outside of town where the homeless could camp, "Hopetown" I believe.

My question is, who makes/enforces law and order in a sub-freeway dwelling?

Actual Footage of Pastor Beaten & Tazed By Border Patrol

bluecliff says...

The truly funny thing is - since we live in a democracy, the policeman is a type of public servant. The police are representatives of the state, which is a manifestation of the will of the people, who are individual citizens.
SO - the pastor is effectively beating himself, by being beaten by his official representative (in charge of "law and order").

Democracy - LOL.

FBI Used Bullshit Science To Pin Crimes On The Innocent

NordlichReiter says...

Complete bullshit. Cannot convict on this, must have proof beyond a doubt.

If the jury finds you guilty but there is not proof beyond a doubt, then the judge is bound by oath to acquit you, or call mistrial.

This shit is completely stupid, the law always has to put some one away. Or they look like idiots. They do not care if you are guilty or not, to law enforcement you are guilty.

Its not his position to tell the DOJ what to do? It is your duty man, if you fail to do so you should be prosecuted for violation of office.

I think some of the evidence that they find is completely absurd.

Like the law and order episode where a man finds his wife suicided in a car, pulls her out to give her mouth to mouth, and she cracks her head on the pavement. They tried to convict him for killing his wife, with blunt force to her head, even though she was dead of asphyxiation by coroner. Matter of fact in the episode they tried him twice for the same charges. It's a TV show, but it illustrates the absurdity of the legal system in action.

They need zealous unbiased oversight of DA, criminal, judge, and law enforcement. There should be a department of government just for that.

Some one has to reign the assholes in.

Judge Rips Law Student a New Poo-hole

GeeSussFreeK says...

Dunno, he seemed like a smug little worm who was taking advantage of not only the platiff, but his position as a law student. Some people have it coming, she was just the vessle of his destruction. I dunno if it was excesive or not because that is only a small clip of the "show", but he seemed to be ripe for a smack down. Sersiouly, who in their right mind tells a judge "thats your opinion" none the less a 2 year law student? I actually apriciated her zeal for the process of law; and where this may be some TV drama BS, I still get all misty at the idea of law and order. If that was a dude ripping into that dude, I don't think there would be so many "Shes just a bitch" comments, perhaps a little latent sexism from a dude getting pwned by a chick I suspect?

Singing Protesters Gassed in Tacoma

Man, this should be in-thread, you are most certainly not a troll! I'd be happy if you copy-pasted this whole thing back into the discussion. I totally agree that this is what America gets when they vote a Neo-con into office, and allow the administration to run rough-shod over their rights. I don't think we are even arguing? Like I said, I think those protesters lacked heart.

And didn't the itnertoobs come originally from the academic / scientific sphere? At least that's what I remember from being there. It was co-opted and propagated by the DOD to use toward their own nefarious ends.

In reply to this comment by deadgoon:
From my standpoint (and after reading all the info neatly referenced in the wiki article I posted) neither the protesters nor the police had any more right than the other. A majority of the protesters were breaking laws and orders set up for their safety as well as the safety of the police and other personnel. This didn't happen over one day. It was a few years of protest at this particular site and the worst of it culminated in the video that was posted.

I argue, like in the previous reply, it is the fault of the people electing who we do into office that makes this a tragedy. We believe that they are doing everything for "the good of America" or to "create a change" in America. When in fact, every law they create or every bill they design not only helps the lobbyist and stockholder but it also helps to further the separation, and segregation, of Americans by race, creed, color, sexual orientation and income. This isn't limited to one party.

BTW - without the military industrial complex you and I would not be using this medium to interact. The entire world has benefited greatly due to technological breakthrough because of war and conflict. Unfortunate? Yes and no.

In reply to this comment by schmawy:
Very true, and ages on the Sift vary greatly. You probably know that the Law affords "individual rights" to corporations as well. I take umbrage with that, as do many of the protesters. Military industrial complex makes Ike cry.

What is the Law? It's set up for an individual's right and protection.

And by calling us 'pups' you're meaning to imply that WE are naive?

Not so much "naive" as unwilling to believe that this isn't the fault of one man. If we are all over 18 on this thread, we all had a hand in electing the people making and breaking law in Washington, D. C.

Will do. I'll copy from your reply on down.

And yes, it did start out in academia but did not have enough funding which is why DoD took over at one point. At that time, though, it was joint effort by the scientific and military community. Not so much anymore now that the DoD, much like any giant corporation, will take a person's creative license and make it property of that business.

The Falafel Factor

"Science leads you to killing people" - Ben Stein

jwray says...

Japan is the only one of those really benefiting from US protection right now. The European Union could very easily defend themselves if Saddam Hussein or Kim Jong Il had decided to attack Europe. France has hundreds of nukes.

>> ^quantumushroom:
Be it monarch, God(s) or the ever-elusive State, One must dominate and claim itself as the Source of law and order.

There can be many coequal things at the top.

In the US, the separation of powers prevents any one person from dominating, unless there's a wizard in the sky controlling the thoughts of all three branches of government.

What about placing abstract concepts at the top rather than personal agents? Perhaps rule of law, ethics, truth, justice, and science.

"Science leads you to killing people" - Ben Stein

quantumushroom says...

As of 2008, the following states have a majority population of atheists and are just as free as the USA and much more peaceful than the USA:

Norway
Sweden
Japan
France
Germany

I don't see the implied relationship of atheism to prosperity or peace. Freedom is not free. Many of the countries listed here are "more peaceful" because the USA spends its resources protecting them now, as well as defeating the ones that were rogue states (then rebuilding them) then.

I could be wrong, but none of the governments on the list has claimed that atheism is "official policy" and they are superior to the Source of natural order. At least three countries on the list are doomed to become Muslim.

However during WWII, the overwhelming majority of Japanese and Germans were adherents to various religions.

Obviously they didn't practice the values that religions instill and organized atheism mimics, beginning with the belief that human life is sacred.

My point is not to denigrate atheists or individual atheism, a "movement" which only recently has established itself in the public eye. My point is to remind everyone here that the historical constant, due to flawed human nature, is that someone or something always has to be #1.

Be it monarch, God(s) or the ever-elusive State, One must dominate and claim itself as the Source of law and order. More tyrannical governments try to make the Leader(s) divinely equal or greater than God. These always seem to end in massive bloodshed.

Downvote is for the distortion of the meaning behind Stein's words by the narrator, not for his arguments against.
