Outstanding.

The account in the vid pales.

He sustained serious injuries from a land mine in Vietnam before undergoing SOG training at Ft. Bragg with the spinal injury. Almost unbelievable as far as that goes.

I just reread the MOH Citation for the first time in many years. (http://www.valorremembered.org/RPB_MOHCitation.htm)

I see his name all the time here. It good to be reminded of why.

I want to chime in and emphasize: This is game is FUN!

Built an old-style rumanian draculesque mansion last night together with three friends. Had huge fun mining the resources for it. I stole my buddies gold when he yelled "Eureka!" and made a helmet out of it so he would always remember my theft whenever looking at me.

The pressure plate zombie mine is a FANTASTIC idea. Will try it, too! I have plans for some wheat fields right now, my engineering skills are lacking unlike your son's.

Not just clever marketing. This game is really something special. My whole family is in love with it at the moment.

It is hard to explain what makes it awesome, especially since the graphics are so shit - let me try:

  • The Sandbox nature is not unique to gaming by any means, but it's the few gameplay elements that do exist that make things fun in the sandbox.
If you are trapped outside as night falls, you'll find yourself frantically digging a hole in the dirt trying to get any kind of shelter before total darkness falls - it's damn scary - if you get into it.
Light a fire while you are standing too close to it, and you will light yourself on fire and burn 'till you die

  • Although these aren't the physics of our world - a kind of physics does exist. Gravel and Sand have gravity, trees can be chopped down, etc.
  • The Lego factor, while I don't think trumps the exploration factor - is still great. It's easy and fun to build amazing structures - with a large amount of complexity:

    Land mines are evil.

Fascinating video. No idea they left the wound open like that, and that guys arm in the first part was a complete mess. If anything I am amazed they can salvage anything when so much muscle and bone is showing. Amputations are pretty grim too, takes a certain kind of person to do that job.

Booby-trapped bike teaches thief a lesson!

    Psychologic says...

Why I like this video and discussion: It exists in an odd moral middle ground between equally ridiculous extremes.

-Should someone be required to keep their property completely safe in case it is stolen, or are they allowed to disembowel an assailant in the street for the slightest infraction?

-If someone neglects basic safety checks in their hurry to willingly commit an illegal act, is their resulting avoidable injury any less their fault because the original owner hoped it would happen?

In these cases, my general enjoyment of the situation is a balance between the irony involved (like) and the severity of the consequences (dislike).

-When someone spends 30 minutes tearing the plexiglas shielding off a wall to get at the $20 bill someone dropped behind it, only to find that it was a fake advertisement for a local church, I laugh. The irony outweighed their loss and disappointment.

-When someone takes a shortcut across a 20ft "no trespassing" zone and loses a leg to a land mine, I feel sadness. The consequence far outweighed the severity of the infraction.

Somewhere between these extremes lies a guy in the middle of a street who was just outsmarted by a bicycle that wasn't his. He was set up on purpose by someone with more free time than sense, but he did it to himself, and as a consolation prize he got to keep a bike that wasn't worth the time it took to steal in the first place.

There was no bike thief made this day. People who don't steal bikes won't grab the first one they see leaning up against the wall. People who don't steal bikes wouldn't case the joint for a good few minutes before making a move. This was not the first time that he attempted to gain lulz at the expense of others. With this is mind, I feel that this was a just punishment.

    @ ad-absurdumfags
Even though the bike was unsafe to ride, in both situations it was on a flat surface and sabotaged to the point that no thief would have gotten far enough to get the speed to injure themselves.

BF: Bad Company 2 - PC Specific Features

They had me at dedicated servers. Yeah, I'm buying this one.

I have quite a few of the games of the series but they have also had some missteps along the way. I thought BF2142 was not as good as it could have been and they stepped on a land mine with the in-game advertisement. Core 2 Duo ads all over the level in the year 2142? Give me a fucking break...
