Promote puts a video into the "promoted" floatover box for a few hours, but also re-queues it into unsifted... and it might boost the hotness too, not sure.

Quality moves a video up the front page, to just below the promoted ones when it's first invoked... then as other ones come along with more votes or other qualities they move down... http://videosift.com/video/She-and-Him-Thieves-Jimmy-Kimmel-Live is still on the first page, after having quality invoked last night. If you always sort the front page by newness instead of hotness, you are likely to be puzzled about what it does :
