DOOM (Original DOS Version) Episode 1: Knee-Deep In The Dead

00Scud00 says...

I've been fragging ever since Doom and I haven't killed anybody yet. The bigger miracle is having gone through middle and highschool and not murdering anyone.
The handling of weapons? Yeah, I can see a bunch of kids wondering how you run around at 40mph with a chaingun held directly in front of your chest.
Also I did fire up Doom again lately using GZDoom and the Brutal Doom mod, and it's pure awesome.

End of an era: signing off final Mercedes-Benz V8 F1 engine

oritteropo says...

The V6 turbo is intended to develop technology that's more applicable to road cars, rather than the previous F1 approach of just spinning the engines faster and making the components thinner and lighter. They are also introducing much more restrictive fuel economy measures (via mandated maximum flow rate to the engine rather than the current limit of as much as you can carry at the start of the race). Also, as the video mentioned, the energy recovery system is going to be more integrated next season.

The new engines specs sound, superficially at least, similar to Indy car engines... I wonder if they will be close enough to allow any crossover?

The first clips of the new engines being fired up have already started to show up on yt:

Nevermind... wasn't paying attention enough to what they were saying during the video. Changing to a V6 next season.

Am I the only on that finds Charlie Roses(who i usually dig)question absolutely lame? Questions like that are asked IMO just to get Americans fired up and thus get television ratings. So annoying and wasted opportunity to possibly learn something.

What Is Your Favourite Video Game Music? (Videogames Talk Post)

radx says...

Aww, c'mon. You cannot expect me to pick a favorite! After 24 years of gaming on the PC, there's an endless list of themes in my head, one better than the other.

So here's what I came up with in two minutes:
-- Battle Isle 2, epic midi theme
-- The Settlers/Die Siedler, original theme
-- UFO: Enemy Unkown, theme
-- X-COM: Terror from the Deep, geoscape "crap your pants"-theme
-- Outlaws, theme
-- Carmageddon 2, "kill all the fucking pedestrians"-theme

Also add every single track of the Jagged Alliance soundtrack. The original, mind you, not the second installment. And do I even have to mention Hell March or the original C&C?

Edit: ffs, now I have to fire up DOSBox and play Battle Isle until my eyes start to bleed.

Silence on the Power Point limitation? (Money Talk Post)

mintbbb says...

I can understand that some people will be upset because there will be a limit of how many promotes one can fire up. But, with the new promotes, is that really that much of a factor?

I do love having a video of my being promoted, but when it happened, it was like 'OMG! Thank you! Somebody really liked that video!' I felt like It didn't happen because my video didn't sift and went to pq. It didn't happen in return of me promoting somebody else's video. It didn't happen because I am a nice person.

I know people like to work together and get all this promoting and working together - thing going on. I know lots of nice people deserve to have success in VS. I know I tend to vote on some people's videos because they vote on mine. But that's still fine. I come online in the morning, look for certain submissions and vote on them, unless they are too weird for me, submit a buch of stuff and go on my merry way. I rarely promote (and I do not want to tell howe many power points I still have). You might think I am am b**ch for not promoting and upvoting enough. But as nice as VS is, I do not want it to take over my life. I already had EQ, WOW and almost SWTOR do that.. Changes might seem bad, but they happen.

Maybe I am the b**ch queen of VS, but I am a loner. I appreciate every vote, quality and promote, and I never seem to return the favor enough. And I take the downvotes personally. But I have gotten here without asking for help. I appreciate it, but am not asking for it. There are times when I just get teary eyed because someboidy promoted a vidoe, or made a nice comment..

Again, thanks for all the votes. I will try to do better at returning the favor, at some point. When I am better and less depressed and happier. I still love VS.

VideoSift 5.0 bugs go here. (Sift Talk Post)

MilkmanDan says...

This isn't really a bug, but if any other users are running "lockdown-mode" Firefox like me (AdBlock Plus, Element Hiding Helper, NoScript, Cookie Monster, *and* RequestPolicy) and you don't see the comments section on any video pages, try allowing googleapis.com in both NoScript and RequestPolicy.

Old version of the page would load comments just fine with googleapis.com blocked in RequestPolicy, but it disappeared for me after the update until I made that change.

That combination of plugins for Firefox is a great way to have a whole lot of control over how much extra cruft a page can serve up to you, but I must admit it makes any first visit to a new site or domain a real bitch. Sometimes I just give up and fire up Chrome.

Obama says the real Mitt Romney didn't show up to debate

VoodooV says...

He won the debate, but yeah, he had to lie through his teeth and change his position on everything in order to do it.

So in the end...did he really win? Romney's getting his ass dragged over the coals by the fact checkers now and once again we have this situation where I'm sure Romney's goal was to fire up his base. But he forgot the lesson of Sarah Palin: You can fire up your base, but that also fires up your opposition to vote against you as well.

I'm sure there were plenty of Obama supporters who probably were going to stay home on election day either because they figure Obama's already won this and most people, republicans included, anticipated Obama wiping the floor with Romney, but to see him lie so blatantly and change his colors yet again ensures that they WILL come out and vote to make sure Romney doesn't win.

ROC Roadblock

CrushBug says...

That was really interesting. I am not a big fan of random authority. I wonder why they were being stopped and why the police looked so fired up.

The last time I heard about a police biker roadblock, it was an actual motorcycle gang convention and the federal police just descended on the town and checked everyone. There were something like 200 arrests for outstanding warrants, drug and weapon possession, and the like. This didn't look anything like that.

Part 2
Part 3

Thank you soo much. I just watched the full episode and saw that Jon hammered them even harder in the 2nd part.

Part 3 was brutal, and yeah, he looked pissed. I just wonder what Democrat he's going to rip Monday night (or Tuesday). I hope he is still fired up for his debate with O'Reilly, but I predict he'll just, as he always does when talking to Bill-O, try to bring the funny instead of just laying the idiot out flat and exposing him for the fool he truly is. Jon always gets the better of him, but I want to see a KO.

Anyway, gotta watch all 3 parts. Very good take-down of Romney AND FOX, and that whole machine of pissy, bitter, cynical, ignorant, feckless, paranoid tools over there who lack anything even approaching self-respect.

@luxury_pie, maybe put the links to the other two parts in the summary?
