Homeless Veteran Timelapse Transformation
He'd be completely hirable with a 10 dollar haircut at cost cutters, a dress shirt and some slacks.
The fanfare, expense and emphasis on the physical aspect of his transformation over to the lip service his real challenging journey gets, is some gross combination of a marketing ploy and the worst aspects of our society's desire for cute feel good stories and absolutely zero depth, realism or true compassion.
If you were an employer interviewing people for a job, would you hire the man @0:05 or @2:01 ?
While not the cure for alcoholism, I think this boosted his self-esteem, and gave him just enough confidence to try to turn his life around. Hopefully AA will help him stop drinking.
The Born Friends Family Portrait -- a unique friendship

Unmanned: America's Drone Wars trailer
@bcglorf
i think it is rather you who missed my point and are aligning with the same argument @A10anis laid out.
i am not dismissing the horrific violence perpetrated by "terrorists".
what i AM dismissing is the "lesser of two evils" premise.
because it is hypocrisy on steroids.
now i realize you and i highly disagree on this matter.
thats ok..we can disagree.
people can use all the nationalistic jingoism they wish to make this situation a more "feel good" narrative.
they can point to the dead, tortured and beheaded to justify their own brand of violence.
they can flag-wave and pat themselves on the back that our form of violence is somehow "less" violent and "more" noble.
and it still would not change the fact that the reasons behind normal people turning to fundamentalist, reactionary violent groups can be found at our own feet.
this is the part of the equation that so many people i talk to seem to either willingly or unwittingly...ignore.
responsibility lies at the feet of those who created this violent ballet, just as it does with those who perpetrate the violence.
its like you hitting me in the face everyday at school and one day i hit you back.
but with a bat.
and you run to the principle and cry to have me arrested for hitting you in the face with a bat.
ignoring the fact you had been violent with me for many days prior.
moral question:who is wrong?
or in the context of this discussion:who is more evil?
Van Jones: Let's Stop Trying to Please Republicans
Van Jones is kinda kooky in my opinion. I digress.
To imply that Obamacare is a Republican plan is ludicrous. Why can politicians not take responsibility for their own legislation? Republicans and Democrats are all the same. I see little difference between the two parties. They are all reactive, knee-jerk legislators that believe there needs to be a law for every situation known to mankind.
Leave the American People alone. Me and my neighbors can take care of ourselves.
Van Jones should read Dr. Covey's book:
-Stephen R. Covey, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change
Russell Brand talks politics and revolution on Newsnight
It just feels good to hear someone say it. *promote
Why Violent Video Games Don't Cause Violence | Today's Topic
frank zappa already covered this... the radio is full of songs about love and feeling good, and thats not the pattern we see
Body language in cats
Don't rub the tummy when he rolls on his back? Idk, at first he responds hostile but then he realizes it feels good and keeps rolling around.
Jon Stewart's 19 Tough Questions for Libertarians!
i dont pay taxes.
i refused ten years ago and have stuck with that path.
and its been sunshine and rainbows ever since....
ok..not really.my income is severely crippled due to me not paying taxes BUT goddamn does it make me feel good!
i do not pay taxes not to be a cheap ass but rather to protest a system that is so obviously rigged against me.(and you).
as for american libertarianism.
i will say they have the civil rights down.
i totally agree with their philosophy of personal liberty and right to do whatever you want as long as you aint stepping on another blokes shoes.
but when they start with the "free market" sermons i start to look at them as wide-eyed and innocent children.
do they not SEE whats going on?
free market?
what is this free market you speak of?
america is NOT a free market.
it is corporate socialism.
or welfare if you want to troll a bit.
go ahead and de-regulate corporate america.
see what happens.
better yet, just look at some african nations,or former soviet states.
guilded estates with private armies for the uber-wealthy and elite while the majority of the population live in either indentured servitude or total squalor.
i am noticing a disturbing trend here in america.its like they are preparing.
we have a government bought and paid for by corporate america, which does the corporations bidding.
the co-opting of the tea party and the crushing of occupy.
a massive surveillance operation.
militarized police forces across the country.
civil liberties made into mere "suggestions" and no longer inalienable.
executions of american citizens with no due process (bye bye habeas corpus).
a standing army that has been in place for over 60 years and a war on terror that will never end.
it is madness.
so i cannot blame my libertarian friends for calling for smaller government.
because the government has become TOO big and no longer is "for the people,by the people".
it serves its corporate masters.
which is why the "de-regulate" argument truly baffles me.
just as my liberal friends who wish to use the system to correct these imbalances.
what?
the system is utterly BROKEN.
we no longer have a functioning democracy!
why would you even suggest to use a system that threw us all overboard to lick the boots of their masters 30 yrs ago?
the mind..it boggles.
every political philosophy has its flaws.none are perfect.
libertarianism has some very good points while others are a bit...naive in my opinion.
for me the end result is this:
i do not trust power nor authority because i find them to be illegitimate until they prove themselves otherwise.
so i am suspicious when someone tries to force their authority on me based on arbitrary and subjective parameters.(like a cop,or judge or some rich dude).
i am a humanist by nature so my political philosophy flows from that birthplace.
i will never step on you to further my career nor take food out of your mouth.
corporate america has spread a propaganda campaign that is insidious.
capitalism is good.
greed is good.
dog eat dog world out there.
here, buy this,it will make you feel better.
wear that and you will be sexy.
you are lone wolf, against the world, drive this car you lone wolf and be a rebel.
its all bullshit.
human beings feel better when they are co-operating.
when they feel their life has purpose and that they are needed.
not by living in a perpetual 7 yr olds wet dream.
oh
my
god.
you fuckers got me ranting!
i hate you both......

Nothing to Prove - Geek Girls & The Doubleclicks
I entered this scene through rejection and honesty
Nerds weren't mean, they were weird and that worked for me
After 10 years of teasing when social skills failed me
Dungeons & Dragons cured all that ailed me
We read books, we played games, we made art, we watched Lost
We said things like "D20", "shipping" and "Mana cost"
It felt good to be myself, not being mocked
Still self-conscious, though, we whispered things about jocks
But one day, you grow up, come into your own
Now geek's not rejection - it's a label I own
Then ignorant haters come to prove me wrong
Tell me I'm not nerdy enough to belong
I've got nothing to prove
I've got nothing to prove
I've got nothing to prove
Fake Geek Girl test - that's a funny one, go ahead
How many comic books are there I haven't read?
I know it feels good to have a contest you win
It would feel even better if I wanted in
So women aren't geeks, so is that your conclusion?
That this is some secret club based on exclusion?
12-year-old dorks would say you're being selfish
And then they'd go write in their journals in Elvish
I've got nothing to prove
I've got nothing to prove
I've got nothing to prove
I've got cred but honestly, I shouldn't need it
This world needs all kinds of folks to complete it
You've got gamers, and artists and comic subscribers
Cosplayers, crafters and fan-fiction writers
You can stop - never say "fake geek" again
Our club needs no bouncers - all who want in get in
But go ahead, if you want, to own that role fully
I ain't got nothing to prove to a bully!
I've got nothing to prove
I've got nothing to prove
I've got nothing to prove
Haters are gonna hate
Kids React to Controversial Cheerios Commercial
First of all, prejudice against race and prejudice against religion aren't quite on equal footing, since one is something you're actually born with and the other is something that you can actually affect later in life with your own decisions. Prejudice against how people are born, something that's totally beyond their own control, that's just insane on the face of it. Prejudice against their religion or lack of it though, since that is either the result of them actively thinking about it and coming to a conclusion, or perhaps more commonly actively not thinking about it and just going with what they were told when they were young... There's room there for a healthy dose of prejudice.
Secondly, censorship isn't the answer, not even on YouTube.
But overall, DAMN it feels good to see stuff like this. Gives hope that maybe, just maybe one day this world won't be so bad after all.
Bob Evans - Disparate Youth (Santigold cover)

Candidate Obama vs President Obama on Government Surveillanc
Lying piece of shit! Just another corrupt president pawn. I know, not very constructive, but it feels good to say it once in awhile.

Glass How-to: Getting Started
I'm not too concerned about the privacy implications:
1) Don't use your real google account; make a new one with no "friends", false name and other data. I'm sure this removes some of the "features", but probably nothing you can't live without if you're concerned about privacy issues. In the meantime, feel good about yourself for "stickin' it to the man" and making google's advertising database think that all of your browsing history/etc. is being done by a 93-year-old woman from Abu Dhabhi named "Beverly Knickerbocker".
2) If you're extremely concerned about google knowing what you're looking at 24/7 because of the camera on the device, I'd be happy to sell you a
small piece of electrical tape"digital privacy filtration screen 2.0" for the low-low price of $10.*edit* -- I don't want one of these things myself, but I'm not vehemently opposed to their existence. With some sort of firmware update that puts a configurable open-source "OS" on them that allows you to control exactly what comes in and what goes out, might be more interesting. But in the meantime, it isn't privacy concerns (or even worrying about looking like a dork -- totally lost cause there) that make Glass a non-sale to me. It's simply that I don't think I'd get much positive use out of them, particularly compared to cost.
*further edit* That was a fun rant you linked to @dag. I think he needs to relax a little. Or maybe just get out ... less? When you see pretentious douchebags everywhere, maybe the solution is staying home?
