"The girl born without a face:" Treacher Collins syndrome

cybrbeast says...

I maybe would have gone with euthanasia at birth. I mean without all this medical intervention she couldn't even eat or breathe. Now that she's a little girl though, it's best to do all that can be done. Operation after operation after operation... So sad

This bear walks into a Subway store..

highdileeho says...

In NJ, many problem bears are re-located to the Catskills in NY. They always find their way back to people. I had a 400 lb black bear hanging around, getting within 30 ft. of us. He would relentlessly re-appear at the camp and follow us throughout the day when we went on hikes. Most are harmless, but also have absolutely no fear of humans. Black bears who aren't accustomed to people will never be seen. I stumbled on a den within a 1/4 mile from a camp site. We never saw or heard the animal once during our two week stay. Euthanasia in my opinion is sometimes necessary. And yes, I did poop a little when I first saw the bear.

#1 was part of Bush's platform and one of the first things he did after his inauguration, and #5 has little to do with the federal government or the commerce clause of the federal constitution. #5 is about local elections being influenced by religious extremists who believe the world is 6000 years old and vote Republican in part because Republican-appointed judges are less likely to see the establishment clause violation in replacing part of the science curriculum with the Old Testament.

It has everything to do with the federal mafia's "education" racket. If education was completely privatized the way it should be, all these activists and do-gooders--including the federal mafia--would be sh't out of luck. All the activists could do is start schools of their own. Wouldn't you like to see if an atheistic academy can compete with a religious one?

The OFBCI has never given a grant to a non-christian religious organization. It's purpose is very clear: to provide federal funding for Bush's version of Christianity.

What can I say, the government creates something and says, "Here are the self-imposed limits" and then crosses the line the next day. Plenty of government entities are unconstitutional by their very existence. You happen to have a problem with the OFBCI, I'm ready to see the NEA scrapped along with the post office monopoly, among others.

3. The "meddling" failed, nor was there any change in the laws.

Republican meddling failed because of public opposition to it, but the public hadn't the consistency to take anti-euthanasia laws off the books.

Schiavo was a confusing, horrific affair. Euthanasia laws are more complex than a religious view versus, what exactly? It's very easy to make the leap to the State deciding to pull plugs on costly coma patients. Even if Republicans instigated the interference, a majority opposed federal intervention which probably included conservatives as well.

#4 and #6 are the result of the values of the majority of the people. I don't necessarily agree with them. There are other reasons besides religious ones for the banning of gay marriage.

The bill of rights exists to prevent tyranny of the majority. More than 80% of US Citizens are christian, therefore we must be very careful not to create a christian theocracy.

I see no immediate danger of that happening with a Congress and Supremes hostile to even the mention of religion in schools and public arenas. We're in far more danger of becoming a socialist state than a theocracy. It may happen peacefully and even "legally" if enough people are convinced (to their detriment) that socialism is the way to go.

Global warming has been steadily taking place since the last Ice Age. Nothing so far is outside the normal range of expected activity. Even the scientists who believe GW is man-made or influenced admit the effects of wrecking the world's economies with Kyoto and other protocols would not make a significant difference in the warming trend, nor do they predict seas rising more than a foot by 2100. What other logical conclusion could one reach then, except those foisting the hysteria on the world are seeking power?

The Pain - The Conservative Christians Guide (Blog Entry by Farhad2000)

"tians" and "ists" are all "ons" t'me......
and farhad2000, state-sanctioned infanticide(late-term), suicide, or euthanasia, are but enlightened and logical steps towards eugenics and concentration camps my educated, man of the world pal......(dunno why, those are the 1st 3 that popped into my head after seeing the abortion cartoon)
Definitely do something about repeated offenders, murderers, etc. I know, incarcerate AND rehabilitate-then beat the piss out of them, and chain them to a post if they ever do it again. But How often do they have to get beat until they are accidentally killed??? Let the surviving relatives decide.
Foreigners. Lemme put it this way-I live in the United States, and I wish there were more folks here foreign to the daily fare.
People are people so why should it be, so many twitch n' twirl, with head-in-assssss disease....

Barney Frank defends individual freedom

jwray says...

Gorgonheap, neither of those points, even if they were true, would be relevant to whether or not it should be outlawed.

Besides, the Netherlands has a higher life expectancy than the US, higher median standardized test scores than the US, and arguably higher median standard of living than the US despite legalized gambling, prostitution, drugs, gay rights, euthanasia, etc.

Not that it matters.

This is about individual freedom. Read this essay by the most brilliant writer of the 19th century:

Do You Want To Live Forever?

cybrbeast says...

Yes they also refer to the tech review affair near the end of the documentary.

Our ethics may not be up to it now, but when the technology comes we will have to adapt our ethics. Or should the government deprive its people from life extension via laws? That would be unethical.
Yes I think suicide/euthanasia would become the norm for people who extend their lives. I think it's great that people would be able to choose when they die. Instead of a normal funeral you could have a going away party with friends where you can say goodbye and die peacefully at the end of the evening.

Sex Drugs and Democracy: The Netherlands

rbar says...

The Dutch government is certainly more conservative now then even several years ago. Like with everything there is a trend that goes up and down, little more liberal one year and a little more conservative the next. So far it has not resulted in any large shifts in policy I can see.

The one thing that is a pity is that we also follow the international trend, which is more conservative these days then it has been in recent history. I dont think it is just the US. The entire world is filling again with fear, whether it is the environment, big brother, terrorist, or what not.

I still believe the majority of the Dutch are proud of our liberties and will defend them, perhaps even extend some. Only time will tell...

In the mean time, I know of no country (except maybe some Nordics) who handles prostitution, drugs, abortion, euthanasia, homosexuals, freedom of speech and in general freedom better.

Having said that, the weather still sucks.

Death Race 2000 - Euthanasia Day

Fox News On The Netherlands

cheshirepuss says...

Oh we talked about the suicide pill, some time ago (before 2000, not sure when). It was quite interesting, and i think it might be a good idea, i'm even increasingly thinking people should have the option to say farewell to this imminent decline. And anything should be open for discussion, anything.
What i am more offended about is that he equates euthanasia with infanticide. Like we kill kids for the heck of it. We only kill kids who have no other prospect than a short life of intense suffering. I call that humane, and this douchebag wants to see them suffering just cause he 'respects' life. That's what really got to me.

pssst, just between you & me ..i know (; I was being very very sarcastic He does indeed not seem to have more than one concept for characters. But is that really so important? Characters are nothing more than a vehicle for jokes, which are the highlight of the show imo.

As for POS; jokes like "mickey the xenophobic scotsman", "the fury of Clytemnestra", "euthanasia/youthinasia - boy they got enough kids over there as it is"? how can you dislike it? Of course there's no accounting for taste..but POS? meh.

In reply to your comment:
pssst... just between you & me, that was kind of my point. Note that Seth McFarlane created both Family Guy & this POS right here.

In reply to your comment:
yeah, I think he ripped it off from family guy.

yeah, they found the poor shlubb in a hole on tv already, its pretty bad his ramblings later caught on film furthered his own demise in the collective, civilized eyes-pathetic trial appearances notwithstanding,...almost like televising the euthanasia of a dog,...but, the depths to which we all could sink, unattended, is what you watch in his execution, as well as the image that could, or could never be in the mirror, every day-So, knowing the potential for calamity, you hide certain aspects of..."Reality" to keep the masses, asses...
Farhads right, theo, all, and the balance others chose for us, is what we have to deal with.
