I have to somewhat concur with pprt. I think I completely agree with Russell's position and arguments in this piece, but it really wasn't much of an interview or expose. I'd have rather seen him challenge them in a Devil's Advocate manner than launch personal attacks against them. Louis Theroux's time with the Westboro Baptists is a good model. The people know he's against them but we still get a chance to hear a lot of what they think and see how they live. At least save the "you're fuckin' wrong!" for the very end of the show.

Saw Watchmen about an hour ago. I left it thinking it was like a cake made with the finest ingredients that came out of the oven a flat mess.

It was beautifully shot and the characters were imbued with real emotions - I found myself interested in their lives. But taken as a whole - at the end of the show - I asked myself "why make this?"

The length and depth of a graphic novel do not translate well to a 90 minute medium. Why not spend all that amazing creative energy making something original instead of trying to translate one form of art into another? Kubrick would have understood - make a great film instead of "the perfect translation".

My only answer to "why" is that this is somehow safer. There is an installed fanbase so a greater buzz can be generated. Sad days for films lately - the industry needs a reboot.

Context: Usually at the end of TV show 'Curb Your Enthusiasm', something horrible would happen, at which point this music would kick into the credits. The music would make the situation seem less dark, lest the audience forget it's just comedy.

Since we're scrutinizing Fox's motivations, I'll say that I think the "time limitations" are suspicious. Either it was the worst-planned segment ever, or they were cut off for going off-script.

Given that his introduction & first question took a full minute, they cut to commercial after only 2 minutes, then return for only 30 seconds before the end of the show? Seems like something they'd give the standard 6-8 minutes to ordinarily.

I also agree with rougy about what Fox had brought these guests on for -- likely to tell an eyewitness account of Russian brutality.

I think there's a larger issue we should be worried about here though. American media scarcely mentions that what these guests said is the typical response of Ossetians.

How many other reports have even mentioned the fact that Ossetia wanted independence from Georgia?

I'm not excusing what Russia's doing, but this story is filled with layer after layer of shades of grey, and American media reports it as "Russia bad, Georgia friend", and talks about how agressively we should respond to Russia's violation of Georgia's sovreignty.

The groundwork is being laid here for military action, not diplomacy, and it is not just Fox News doing it.

I'm sorry but I dont see anything good about this, its all bullshit to me. Yes some medical conditions could be helped with it but that is a small minority, thats like saying all abortions are ok no matter what because they help rape and incest victims. For the most part if you want a tan go the fuck outside like Persephone said go out at times where the sun isnt as intense and slowly work up your tan (i for one didnt see much difference at all between day 1 and day 20 with this girl). Also why the hell are humans fasinated with not eatting. It supresses apetite not burns off fat meaning you are starving yourself. Do excersise you lazy ass, still the only proven way to lose weight effectivly. Finally why the hell are we so obsessed with sex drives. I mean senior citizens aside I dont know many guys below 40-50 that have any problem. Yes there again is that small minority of medical conditions that it could help but the vast majority of us seem to me riding the wave of "helping them" just so we can get it in the end. A study showed the biggest user of Viagra was not old men but men between 18-24, college age, that were using it for party purposes. Well thats great, most dumb kids making dumb choices. If you cant get it up, try experimenting with things other than chemicals in your body. Hell and if you want to be Barbie maybe you shouldnt be breeding anyway.

I also see a lot of shit from a lot of other countries on the sift, not just the US. China, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, France, etc. Yes, the US has not been the cleanest country (and with country I mean government and other institutions such as the CIA, NOT its people) and is, due to its size and position, under heavier scrutiny then most. But calling everyone on the sift anti-American is a bait and switch. Be happy there is this scrutiny. Its what creates freedom in the end. And it shows that the US is still a thinking country with a measure of freedom.

There is one thing you can do to liven up this discussion. You even suggest it yourself. Find counter arguments and tell your side. I for one would be very interested.

I remember sitting down, watching some tv, flipping through the channels, then seeing this. I watched like half of this movie, in horror of how terrible it was, until I realized I could just change the channel. It was like breaking free from the most horrible movie ever. If this movie was played to everyone on MST3k, that would be the end of the show forever.
