Army Recruiters Caught Threatening High School Students
>> ^BillOreilly:
Crap, so the 52" hdtv and the new car aren't my signing bonus for the coast guard reserves? I was lied to?
I CAN'T QUIT EITHER, OR I'LL HAVE A WARRANT FOR MY ARREST! SOME1 HELP PLZ!?
Yes, it figures Bill O would defend and minimize the act of lying.
After all, deception is his bread and butter.

Why the Japanese Coast Guard is Badass
Nope, that's what a steel hull looks like if you never paint it.

Was that pirate ship armored? Or at least, completely closed off to the outside world by means of metal plates all around?

Mayday, mayday, we are Sinking
Great pick, fission, but infortunately it's a duplicate of this:

And a very popular duplicate at that. Sorry.
Coastguared Boat Rams into a Speed Boat
The small boat should have been looking. However, the Coastguard has no excuse since he did see them coming. It would have been so easy for the CG to avoid the collision and it wouldn't have slowed him down even a second. The fact that he had the arrogance to risk the lives of those in the other boat just so he could be right about it it disgusting. Secondly, if he was on the way to an emergency he's cost a lot of time by hitting the other boat. I think this is a case of forget who is technically right and wrong and look at the problems caused by the coast guard not responding.
As an experienced water user I'm used to people doing silly things. However, I avoid them when I can and grumble later. I don't try to kill them. The driver of the coast guard boat should be experienced enough to be able to rise above the other boat's silliness and do the right thing.
One last think, the coastguard was trying to shout at the other boat. Just how loud does he think he can shout!
Coastguared Boat Rams into a Speed Boat
I was being sacastic. It's true that the Coast Guard has the right of was in any invocation, same as an ambulance, police and fire. it's not hard to see that they warned them and should have paid attention on the water.
Coastguared Boat Rams into a Speed Boat
Are you fucking kidding me? You don't think that that little fucking speedboat is at fault here? I'm just going to assume that you are joking so I don't have to think so little of you people. How fucking hard is it to see a big ass Coast Guard boat and pull back on the throttle? It's not hard! Conversely the pilot of the Coast Guard boat probably didn't have nearly as good of a view as the completely open view of the speedboat.
But whatever. I'm drunk. You think what you have to think.
Coastguared Boat Rams into a Speed Boat
CG on an emergency call always has the right of way. If a firetruck ran a redlight and hit somebody would you call the firemen dicks? A Coast Guard craft at 3/4 throttle with gumballs spinning isn't exactly subtle.
Coastguared Boat Rams into a Speed Boat
Seriously... are we to take from this video that the speedboaters are entirely at fault? Any logical person might have assumed they were looking at the party boat... that's what people at sea do. Fucking idiot coast guard!
When you kill a person for the first time...
What a great sift. Kudos Farhad. I think it's great because it shows a side of combat that is rarely, if ever, brought out. It made me think of friends of mine whose sons and daughters are now serving. I will forward this on to them. On a different note, I'm struggling whether to show this to another friend of mine who is my age (44) who is currently serving in the coast guard reserve. Now, I'll grant you, it's unlikely that he will ever need to face anything remotely like this, but he was called up after 9/11 and served for 9 months guarding our borders. He is such a gentle person that I'm curious how he would react to seeing this.
Addicted to War: Why the U.S. Can't Kick Militarism
Inaccurate and misleading. My favorite is the typical warping of statistics to illustrate one's own point: the illusion that we spend 50% of our budget on the military, when in actuality that is only a subset of the budget.
From Wiki:
Discretionary spending, which accounts for roughly one-third of all Federal spending, includes money for things like the Army, FBI, the Coast Guard, and highway projects.
So, 50% of 1/3 is 1/6, so a more accurate figure would be that we spend 16% of our budget on the military.
This is also a paltry portion of our GDP:
As a percentage of its GDP, the United states spends 3.7% on military. This is higher than France's 2.6%, and lower than Saudi Arabia's 10%.[6] This is historically low for the United States since it peaked in 1944 at 37.8% of GDP. Even during the peak of the Vietnam War the percentage reached a high of 9.4% in 1968.[7]
Is spending 16% of our budget too high a price to have the worlds premiere military, the only thing keeping us the world's only superpower? 16 cents of your tax dollar helps ensure you keep the lifestyle you are so accustomed to.
