Woman arrested on child cruelty charge
by Jeff Gable

An Alabama woman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after police say she injured a child while dragging it through a store in Rome.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Melissa Catherine Smith-Means, 37, of Gaylesville, Ala., was arrested by Rome police around 12:30 p.m. She was charged with felony first-degree cruelty to children.

Police say she was observed by customers and employees at a store on Broad Street, dragging a small child around by a backpack leash. The child had visible marks on the neck from the incident.

She remains in jail without bail.

I'm halfway through a great Potemkin biography by Simon Sebag Montefiore. It's really interesting and well researched. It debunks a lot of the myths concerning Potemkin and Catherine the Great and is well written. Definitely recommended for anyone interested in history.

Sarah Palin: A bad choice but... I'd still... you know?

kronosposeidon says...

You know what campioni, I'll grant you that she's not really that attractive. Nonetheless, she has a following on the conservative side of the aisle. And hell, let's face it, even many of us lefties want to shag her. So what does this mean? My half-assed theory is this:

Power is an aphrodisiac, for everyone. Now I know that many many misogynists throughout history have advocated this theory strictly in regard to women, but I believe history indicates that there is more to the story. Cleopatra, Catherine the Great of Russia, Sacagawea, etc. all demonstrate that women of noble stature are considered attractive. Who knows how beautiful these women actually were? Can we rely on court painters to realistically depict them?

In other words, mean and women are considered more attractive by the general populace, based on nothing more than their access to power.

Thus concludes my lesson in shit you already knew.

"Unfortunately, the real benefits of this package risk being undermined by alarmist scaremongering that it will cause certain websites to be blocked, and consumers prosecuted for copyright abuse."

Malcolm Harbour MEP, EPP-ED Spokesman on the Telecoms Package

"Alarmist scaremongering" ... yeah, right. His Amendments 9 and 13 are best of them all.

Excerpt of Amendment 9:
In order to address public interest issues with respect to the use of communications services, and to encourage protection of the rights and freedoms of others, the relevant national authorities should be able to produce and have disseminated, with the aid of providers, information related to the use of communications services. This information should include warnings regarding copyright infringement, other unlawful uses and dissemination of harmful content(...)

Keep the aforementioned statement of Catherine Trautmann in mind, IP was not to be part of this whole charade.

Excerpt of Amendment 13:
Management of networks in order to, for example, address congestion and capacity constraints and to enable new services should not per se be considered an example of a restriction requiring intervention, and due account should be taken of the right of network and service operators to diversify their offerings in a competitive market, including through the imposition of reasonable usage restrictions, price differentiation and other legitimate competitive practices.

Top 5 Directors? (Cinema Talk Post)

Eklek says...

Where are the female directors?

There are women in the Senate, women heading studios and busloads of young women emerging from film school. So why are 96 percent of films directed by men?
