Woman Attacks Husbands Cars With Golf Clubs

> this isn't bi-polar disorder

Cant be sure of that. I've seen bipolar disorder in its full glory. This can fit for sure.

I'd bet $$$ this chick parties too much, eats too many prescribed pharmaceuticals every day, and has split her personality solidly into two people - the unmedicated crazy Mrs. Hyde seen here, and a drugged up but calmer Mrs. Jekyll. Maybe she had kids too young and "lost" her youth. Maybe her husband there is a total P.O.S. too.

is Bi-polar really a spiritual awakening?

xxovercastxx says...

This is, uh, not really about bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is cyclical, alternating extreme highs and extreme lows. This guy is describing a kid who goes through a traumatic event and a difficult period in his life and comes out changed.

That's not a disorder; that's life.

That is EXACTLY what came to my mind as I was reading that...

Now, I'll proceed to argue for both sides...

Alright, to be fair, some animals may well suffer from these, but we have no way to tell (even in humans, most of these are "diagnosed" mainly based on self-reporting). It's fairly easy to believe that most animal's brains are enough simpler than a human's that such imbalances are far more uncommon, or even non-existent. The great apes, though, are all so close to human level complexity that I don't think you could argue a meaningful difference.

As for dolphins, they live in a world that is so wholly alien that I seriously doubt we'll ever be able to be sure of anything about their mental processes.

anti-psychotic meds prescribed for children

SlipperyPete says...

an incredibly important story. these drugs are overprescribed off-label not just in children, but also in the elderly. these were developed and approved for treating bipolar disorder and schizophrenia in otherwise healthy adults. the clinical trials did not include enough children or older adults to be considered to have sufficient power.

it should be said this class of drugs can be quite effective for treating the conditions for which they were originally approved.

What is Bipolar Disorder? Do You Really Know?

I briefly dated a girl who was bipolar.
Let's just say it's not something I can in good conscience recommend to others.

Hehe... my wife is bipolar. Maybe I'm just extra patient or something, but it wasn't that bad for me to deal with. But even more importantly is that we got her professional help for the first time, found a good combination of medication, and now she's much healthier and happier.

$1000 Dollars To Any Atheist Who Can Prove A Negative

MaxWilder says...

Suicide is always a tragedy. It is a failure on the level of society, that we were not there when somebody needed us. Bipolar disorder is treatable, and I've seen people get their lives straightened out after dealing with it.

I sincerely hope there is something after death, for all of us, but especially for people who died without living a fulfilling life.

But perhaps some good can come out of this, if his suicide makes people more critical of his religious opinions, and look harder at their own choices.

What is Depression?

snoozedoctor says...

Thanks for posting. I wish he had also mentioned the difference between unipolar major depression and bipolar disorder. The depressive phases can be identical, but the treatment is often very different.
1 in 10 of women, and 1 in 20 of men will suffer a major depressive illness at some time in their life. It is a VERY common disorder, but diagnosis is often shrouded in the somatic complaints of headaches, back pain, lack of energy, etc. which are all real and not imagined.
When major depression strikes, you feel as if an alien has invaded your body and taken control. You look in the mirror and ask, "where did I go? Where's the real me?" The scary part is not knowing if you will return. Depression is scary.

Viktor Frankl on Behaviorism

Crosswords says...

^agreed, I don't see it as being particularly helpful to someone with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia or even some anxiety disorder. All of that said, I still like it, but then I'm a sucker for existentialism.

I think behaviorism has reigned so long because it gave psychology what it desperately wanted, recognition as a science. Unfortunately in trying to prove itself a science it forgot how important philosophy is to the field, and just about completely ignored half of what the human experience is.

Brother of 'Crazy Subway Girl' speaks out

budzos says...

I'm just sick of everyone and their fucking mother having some disorder to excuse their shithead behaviour. This guy's an asshole and his sister is a crazy bitch who'd probably stop acting so "bipolar" if someone just tackled her ass one of these times. She might still be bipolar, but maybe next time her other pole kicks in she'll be reminded "hey last time I did this I got tackled Terry Tate style. Maybe I'll just chill.."

But I do also see how modern society imposes unnatural roles on us human beings that are liable to drive many of us mad. Love, marriage, religion, politics, economics, consumerism, and power systems... our lives are based on one lie after another, and sometimes that's too much for a person's psyche.

I do feel, similar to the guy who is of course wrong about autism, but different in that I think it's actually true, that most people who claim bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, etc.. are really just weak, passive-agressive shitheads who would do just as well with a boot up the ass as a bunch of sympathy, accomodations for their obnoxious symptoms, and a prescription.

Maybe I've just had too many experiences with crazy bitches that have left me with contempt for the mentally ill. Who knows?

Who will be the first to type the obvious joke reply: "what's your excuse for being a shithead?"
