Un-American

kir_mokum says...

i understand and agree that he is unamerican in the sense of the "american ideal" but outside looking in, he is a completely typical product of american culture. he's reality TV, fame for fame's sake, wealthy without working, a hustler, the ideal jerry springer guest, the ideal wrestling guest, the son of racist nepotism, performative altruism (and then defrauds his own charities), he pathologically cannot accept being wrong/defers all fault to anyone else ("whatever, i do what i want"), he's weaponized ignorance, he's "hilariously" rapey, he's illiterate, a proud philistine, he's vapid pageantry, he's a christian who know nothing of religion/spirituality, he's 4chan, he's 8chan, he's tacky style with complete lack of substance, he's the personification of "fake it 'till you make it". these are all lessons i've seen repeated ad nauseam from american TV, films, music, podcasts, youtube stars, etc. to the point where they're past cliché that they're now entrenched americana.

i know that isn't the typical american but that is the most typical american america has sold to itself and the rest of the world.

300 Foreign Military Bases? WTF America?!

I'm surprised these young ones don't know about the Pax Americana. This video made it sound like they don't teach any modern American history at all in school. What, do they stop at the war of 1812?

Maher: Ronald Reagan Was 'The Original Teabagger'

criticalthud says...

people are sums of their influences, reagan included.
he was an actor, so he was paid to act. not think.

his perspective was of that of someone who benefited greatly from the gilded age of pax americana, so his views reflected that. Nothing started with HIM.
But as a spokesperson for fucking yourself and voting against your own interests, he was incredibly sincere.

An Entertaining game of Rugby

Jinx says...

I love watching Rugby because even when shit like this isn't happening it never seems to bore me. It always seems fast paced. Too often in Football it feels like I am just waiting for something to happen. Haven't watched much American Football, but I found it interesting if only for the Americana factor (same thing with Baseball )

Cute Girl Shows Off her Hooping Skills

The song was popularized by Old Crow Medicine Show who has long been affiliated with Alt Country/hippy jam fests. To be fair to OP though, there has been a bit of a fusion of the "scenes." Live electronic bands like the Disco Biscuits, Sound Tribe Sector 9, and the New Deal spawned this sort of new breed of "hippy-raver hybrids." As @visionep pointed out, there is somewhat of a natural symbiosis there. Anyway, this unholy alliance has come so far along as to push classic hippy bands like String Cheese Incident, Galactic, and Medeski Martin and Wood towards more electronic influenced sounds. These days you see kids on phish tour rockin' skrillex tattoos (oh the humanity). Whatever. I for one welcome our next generation of inebriated overlords. We all like to get down. Let's get down together.

@visionep I known a lot of [insert creative subculture] that love bluegrass/Americana/old timey/folk music. So this isn't really all that strange to see. Also, this isn't exactly your normal country music you hear at some truck stop in Kansas.

So raver culture has infiltrated country music festivals? Awesome.. I always knew the two were related in some way.

There are some people that shouldn't wear spandex... and then again there are some people should, especially when they are showing off for a video that I am going to be able to view.

i think "festy" culture would be a more appropriate and inclusive term.
sounds more bluegrassy/west coast than country.

I knew they has some sort of exploitable resource, but didn't know what. Usually its Oil,but that is nearly as good: some neccessity for keeping industry going and profits up.If America wants to be the New Rome and spread Pax Americana across the world, then they should follow the Roman idea through and kick back some of those spoils of war back to the homeland where all the cannon fodder comes from. Who will buy all this crap we import from China if noone has jobs? Greed will be their downfall, that and an embaressing short sightedness that hopefully won't doom the rest of us along with them.

Ron Paul Speak About How This Bill Is A Prelude To A New War

NordlichReiter says...

The fall of Americana is imminent, and war mongers seek to drive the empire to ruin.

The empire is to far extended, the people are weary of war.

This cannot stand. It is not tactically sound to economically drive more profit to the Chinese.

I predict that if the US were to go to War with Iran, it would be much worse than Iraq. That would be the straw that broke the camel's back.

The above statements are laced with sarcasm, Empire, and the sad state of things.
