If there's an Academy Awards for political videos - this should win it. Masterfully done. Reminded me a bit of the long tracking shot in Scorsese's Good Fellas.

George Lucas Interview Gone Wrong...so very sad. Poor George

ulysses1904 says...

He has already established himself like few can do. I know this clip was edited for humor but to me the concept that is the Academy Awards is so shallow and arbitrary and fleeting that I can't imagine him feeling slighted. At his level it would be like feeling bad because he lost that coupon for a free car wash. But I'm not him.

Then again I did take a leak once in the restroom at the Shrine Auditorium and sensed some real Hollywood magic flowing through the plumbing, maybe there is something to it.

Mouse Outwits Cat...Or Does He?

StukaFox says...

Dude, after that, the mouse HELLA blazed that spliff and the cat got a total contact high -- just like in the 1946 Academy Award winning short, "Tom and Jerry meet Da Chronic" in which Jerry, voiced by Tom Waits, finds Tom's sack of dank and bogarts the lot. It's a great cartoon -- teaches kids the importance of puff-puff-pass and not to ever trust anthropomorphic mice with your weed.

Any other questions?

How fracking works

Fairbs says...

I did some research and it looks like there was a rebuttal by the gas industry which was then rebutted by the film makers. This article... http://www.nytimes.com/gwire/2011/02/24/24greenwire-groundtruthing-academy-award-nominee-gasland-33228.html?pagewanted=all explores the main points of contention which to me doesn't prove the gas companies case. They like to say that it's not the fracking process that creates problems, but the well drilling as if they are separate which they are not. The methane in the water they light on fire is said to come from a 50 year old well where the casing failed. The desire to frack is creating the need for more well drilling and increases the number of points where a problem can occur. All of these wells will eventually become 50 years old so there's not much difference in my mind. I agree, we don't have enough data to know how safe it is, but already it doesn't look safe enough to me.

Unfortunately, there have at least been numerous accusations that they hooked propane up to the water lines and other trickery to film Gasland, so it does not have a shining clean record of being fair and impartial.
That said, I think there is plenty of independent evidence that water contamination has occurred, and it at least appears that it increases the likelihood of earthquakes exponentially, even in areas that have no recorded activity. At best, we don't know the long term effects, and I think we should be cautious until we do since the possible consequences are so terrible and irreversable.

Top 10 Actors Who Haven't Won an Oscar

chingalera says...

The Academys' a private little club anyhow that strokes her own bought-and-sold-out team-players more often that not-I would imagine that most of these great actors be they of the method or character camps don't care about Academy Awards, as they have earned over and over, numerous other more sought-after accolades.

Donald Duck as a Nazi

aaronfr says...

via Wikipedia:

Der Fuehrer's Face (originally titled Donald Duck in Nutzi Land) is a 1943 American animated propaganda short film produced by Walt Disney Productions and released in 1943 by RKO Radio Pictures. The cartoon, which features Donald Duck in a nightmare setting working at a factory in Nazi Germany, was made in an effort to sell war bonds and is an example of American propaganda during World War II. The film was directed by Jack Kinney and written by Joe Grant and Dick Huemer from the original music by Oliver Wallace. The film is well known for Wallace's original song "Der Fuehrer's Face", which was actually released earlier by Spike Jones.

Der Fuehrer's Face won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 15th Academy Awards. It was the only Donald Duck film to receive the honor, although eight other films were also nominated. In 1994, it was voted Number 22 of "the 50 Greatest Cartoons" of all time by members of the animation field. However, because of the propagandistic nature of the short, and the depiction of Donald Duck as a Nazi (albeit a reluctant one), Disney kept the film out of general circulation after its original release. Its first home video release came in 2004 with the release of the third wave of the Walt Disney Treasures DVD sets.

News Anchors Mock Ryan Lochte After Interviewing Him

00Scud00 says...

I'll agree that the behavior displayed by the Fox anchors was pretty bad.
But if we're being honest about it, reality TV exists primarily to showcase people who are either pretty to look at and or people making idiots of themselves for our entertainment. Check and check, yep, he's a reality show star. I'm not sure I'm willing to put him in the same room as De Niro until he's been nominated for or won several Academy awards, we're all human, certainly but beyond that I'm not sure I see a connection to a famous actor.

Barseps said:

All this proves to me is that he's normal. Even today, Robert De Niro is known for not being very good at interviews. ^Upvoted^ for pointing out the nastiness.

Yeah, it was meant to be F1 cars; but Bernie Ecclestone (F1 commercial rights holder) decided against it, as he thought Stallone would give F1 a bad name.

He was right: It earned seven nominations at the 22nd Golden Raspberry Awards, including Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, Worst Screen Couple (Burt Reynolds and Sylvester Stallone) and twice for Worst Supporting Actor (Reynolds and Stallone), with Estella Warren winning Worst Supporting Actress (also for Planet of the Apes).

List of F1, Indy car and CART drivers in the film:
Jean Alesi
Michael Andretti
Kenny Bräck
Patrick Carpentier
Cristiano Da Matta
Adrian Fernández
Christian Fittipaldi
Dario Franchitti
Luiz Garcia Jr.
Mauricio Gugelmin
Michel Jourdain Jr.
Tony Kanaan
Juan Pablo Montoya
Roberto Moreno
Max Papis
Oriol Servia
Alex Tagliani
Paul Tracy
Jimmy Vasser
Jacques Villeneuve

Here is an Excelent Racing movie: Grand Prix (1966)

It won the Academy Award Oscar for: Best Effects / Sound Effects, Best Film Editing, Best Sound in 1967.

It's the only Official F1 movie. The sound is quite incredibly. There is a scene in the movie; as they race around the streets of Monaco, with a Panavision 65mm camera strapped to the hood of the car.

All the best,
ZDM

Thanks for the *promote

There haven't been enough movies featuring racing cars, and even more so for F1. The French film Taxi (or taxi driver, or something like that) purported to have F1 cars, but they looked more like F3000 to me, there were a few others spread over many years... and then there's Rush and the Senna film all at once - life is good

Wasn't the Stallone one featuring Indy cars?
