Are you from the US? If yes, I can understand why you wouldn't wanna ride a bicycle. On different occasions, different US friends of mine noticed independently that there are fewer car accidents in Europe/Germany. Then I researched a bit and found out that US driving tests are far easier than the german tests are; and the US tests are very possibly kept easy to have as many drivers on the roads as possible, influenced by the car and gas-industry.


I would have put it in a slightly different manner (more insults at the driverslicense"agency" what's it called -club) but that's exactly my point.
In Germany you fail the driving test (the actual driving test, not the theory beforehands) if you do one of these things once:
- miss of red light
- entering a one way from the wrong side
- missing a stop-sign
- error of priority in traffic
- ignoring any kind of prohibition sign
- not looking in all mirrors and over shoulder as you switch lines
- no blinking lights as you turn
- blinking lights as you dont turn
- no sign of caution if children, elderly or disabled people are around
- not enough distance to the car in front of you
- and a couple of more things
The test can take up to an hour of driving.
Oh yea the whole thing (driving lessons (theory and driving itself) and tests) costs around a thousand bucks.

If I would feel more save riding a bike here, I would close my eyes, stir with my feet and juggle chainsaws while I enter the AUTOBAHN.

Oh yes and to rejoin the topic: No helmet-campaign I heard of so far. No law against riding without one. Nearly all the children in the city wear one. As they get older they apparently grow out of them.

That would be the case if this event did offer closure but it dos not at all in the slightest. 911 was used as a tool for the american right + military industry. to expand its activities that were the route cause for 911 in the first place bin laden and the actual 3k deaths caused by the planes on 911 are totally negligible compared to the harm the us government inflicts on its own people and people around the world .



true closure would come in the form of america making changes to its foreign policy maybe america reducing its dependency on foreign oil ( although thats not the sole motivation i don't think for what happed after 911)

People should be out in the streets celerbraiting when an event happens that actually signals a tangibal benefit to mankind or a benefit to there individual lives. people who think binladan being dead is going to have a benefit to them in terms of national security or there day to day activities are deluded.

These people in the street seem to think binladan is some sort of commander and chief Hitler type but he is not at all.

people just need to educate them selfs and wealth needs to be evenly spred so they can do that.

I have planes go directly above my house at about 600 feet. I notice some of my friends cower in fear every time a plane gets close (less than a mile). Friends that have never been to my area have their jaws agape every visit.

So, yes, people do react very weird around large moving objects. Almost like their in a Lost Planet game.

It looked like it was quite far from the bridge (I'll go with 2-3k). Safety guidelines and whatnot.

QM, while I am an advocate of individualism and self-reliance, the healthcare debate for me boils down to one fact: Canada spends a smaller portion of its GDP on healthcare than the US does (10.1% vs. 16%).1

That seems like an even better deal when you take into account that the average per capita GDP in Canada (38.3k USD) is 81% of that in the US (47.2k USD).2 (According to an averaging of the World Bank, IMF, and CIA factbook estimates of GDP per capita.)

anything possible on the cutting-costs front of the equation? (cheaper servers, maybe share resources with another videosite) 3k a months seems like quite a lot of money and with the ad-market going down and (by far) most of yr money apparently coming from ads i don't believe there's an easy solution, a 6000+ dollars a year gap is just too much to bridge with fundraising, selling merchandice etc i'd think.

tbh even if videosift had 100 times the userbase or 10 times the functions it has now, i'd say it still wouldnt work.

or maybe videosift needs to grow bigger, let people set up different language versions where u get a part (lets say half) of the money coming from the ads. dunno if thats easy to accomplish but might be neat, free extra ad-revenue and others doing the work.

sad but true, the most obvious solution would ofcourse be to make a pornsift....

(however, with the ad-market in crisis even that might not be to easy)

A lot of the suggestions centre around relying on our active members - but I think that our actual user base is much larger.

We do appreciate the contributions of Charter members - but from a cold, hard financial standpoint- our efforts in this regard have not worked out. I'm sure it has something to do with the Long Tail phenomenon - and if I had hadn't been drinking Guiness tonight I would expound a great deal on it. At the heart of it, we make around $370 per month on member contributions while advertising has provided at it's peak up to $4,000- now around $2,500. Our costs are around $3K.
