Man Sues: Non-Employment Condiseration w/Police for IQ

newtboy says...

I recall other stories like this one back around 2K and being worried. In those stories, they said the upper limit was about 110, but average was average, or 100IQ....that meant there would be some that were 90 IQ (or less).
This story (and link) had holes, the math didn't seem right. They claim a 33 in their test is a 125, that's 3.78 IQ points per test point...then they say the normal accepted score was 20-21, which they claim was equivalent to 104 IQ or 5.07 IQ points per test point. What's up with that?
I suppose 110 being the max is ok for beat cops (but not much under 100 IQ...the dumb really shouldn't have too much authority...see Idiocracy), but then where do you get intelligent detectives from?

Crazy Dentist Visit - Cyanide & Happiness

poolcleaner says...

Dental implants aren't covered by insurance, because they're cosmetic. In fact, most (all?) executive dental plans provided by major corporations don't even cover them.

I paid 2k for a dental implant after talking my dentist down from 5k. Why did I pay this hefty price instead of getting a bridge, which is covered by my usually very decent insurance? I did it to save my surrounding teeth, which would have been widdled down to nubs in order to support the bridge (that's why it's called a bridge).

Bridges should be an outdated procedure, replaced by the superior implant, because we have the technology to avoid it.

But, well, we highly value the SUCCESS of dentists and insurance company scam artists, who desperately need new Ferraris. Afterall, they paid successful education scam artists to become dentists and insurance zombies, so they need to pay off them loans -- with your money, of course.

Oh it's a vicious first world cycle. lol

Dude....You'll never wanna pick up another electric again. Feels like a hot chick on yer crotch, sexy as FUCK! Worth the investment if yer serious.

Again though, you do pay for the extra attention to materials and detail in craftmanship-They start at around 2K now.

World War Two Movie Making Gone Wrong

But if I have my bullet proof vest them I'm safe! And how has that video not gotten more votes? It's friggin hilarious!

I agree with almost everything you said except one thing: the safest place for a cyclists is actually in the middle of the road just like any other car. I've done my fair bit of research on this topic (board member for the states bicycles association) and the stats are glaringly obvious. Cyclists who behave just like a car live the longest. The ones who ride on the sidewalk, ride opposing traffic, don't wear their helmets, no lights, don't signal, or try to cut through traffic get killed the quickest.

Also, there's the issue with bicycles being the last resort. There's those of us who drive a $40k car, but choose to ride a $300 bike down to the coffee shop or to grab a bite to eat. Then there's the idiots who lost their $2k clunker in a DUI and have been banned from driving for life. These ones are already dumbasses and they continue their dumbassness on a bike, giving cycling it's high fatality rate. Then there's the spandex warriors who simply get a bad rep because they ride in packs and drivers get so nervous when they're confronted with other people they freak out and complain. And then there's the hipster.

To your point about driving along a country road at a "safe" speed and then suddenly having to deal with a pack of cyclists, thus making it "unsafe." If you're going to fast to respond to a group of cyclist who can and do ride up to 50kph or 30mph, then what happens when a deer walks out? Or an alligator (yes, that happens here)? Or there's a car stalled? Obviously you weren't going at a safe speed. Point is, a pack of cyclist taking up the road for a hundred feet isn't going to cause anyone to miss saving the world or something. It's a matter of having patience.

And then, there's the matter of idiots. Like those wearing a helmet but not strapping it in . . . there's probably just no hope for them. EIA?

(Seeing as you appear to not be American, there's also the issue with American's already being hyper pumped up full of fear and hatred in general from too much media and taking it out on anyone who isn't like them. Dunno if that applies where you're from.)

Problem is, I often see then riding 2 or 3 abreast on city roads and narrow country roads. On city roads, it's merely annoying. On narrow country roads, it's downright stupid. If you're riding at (being generous) 50 kph and someone comes round a corner doing a perfectly safe and legal 90, you're in trouble.

As for cycle lanes, you're generally right. Unless there's some physical separation from the road, in which case they're great. And while you may be obliged to use the cycle lane, it really makes more sense than cycling in traffic.

I don't want to come off as anti-cyclist. I really believe that cycling is a much better way of transporting people in an urban environment, but people need to stop being so stupid about it. In NZ, you are legally required to wear a helmet, yet everyday I see idiots
a) without a helmet
b) with a helmet, but it's hanging on the handlebars (I guess they don't want to mess up their hair??)
and most stupidly
c) wearing a helmet, but not closing the strap... honestly, this is just retarded. You're wearing the damn helmet anyway, close the strap so it might actually be useful in a crash. It's like running around carrying a bullet proof vest

Xbox One Kinect Calls Foul on Bad Language

entr0py says...

Yeah, it is a bit goofy to blame the microphone for working properly. Rather than blame 2k for thinking up that feature.

Still, I've yet to see anything that the kinect can do that would make games more fun to play. Overly sensitive referees are creative at least.

Some people in this discussion are expressing pretty negative reactions towards XBox One and Kinect 2.0 over this feature.

Guess what. It's the game developer who added this feature, not XBox or Kinect. Go complain to 2K Games.

But then, that would have occurred to you if you didn't have such a hardon for bashing XBox. Still want to bash Microsoft over this? Oh, wait...PS4 has the same feature in these games! If you're the type of person to go into a rage spin over something like this then turn the feature off.

Two Examples Of Anti-Science Politics Side-By-Side

newtboy says...

Finance reform.
Make accepting over $2K from any source a felony, and make it a state felony, not federal, so they go to PRISON, not club fed. We could totally do that here in Cali where the people can put bills on the ballot, but haven't.
Remove the financial incentive for spouting BS and most of it will stop (not all, there are a few true believers, but most are paid spokesmen doing it for the money.)
On another note, Oxygen is deadly in too high a dose. The right wing has 2 choices as I see it, they can either admit they are too dumb to understand that too much of anything is dangerous and/or deadly, or (more likely) admit they are simply disingenuous liars willing to say anything they are paid to say without ever even wondering what the 'truth' is. Neither is a good look.

Study Says Wealthy People Are Generally Assholes

VoodooV says...

To be fair, SOME people do work hard honestly to become rich. SOME people are merely lucky, right place right time. But as more and more people simply inherit their wealth, or get their wealth through dishonest means, it stacks the deck against the honest and the lucky to the point where hard work is the exception, not the rule. Which is where we're at now.

I also got a kick out of the difference in monopoly money, where the "rich" player got 2K and the "poor" person only got 1K. If you want to make that more realistic, the "rich" player should have received something like 50K or 100K.

If rich people merely had double what the average person had..and SOME perks, I doubt that people would be complaining as much. I think most people accept that there is always someone more well off. so the issue isn't envy as some of the pundits like to point out. The issue is not that they have more, but that they have EXPONENTIALLY more, and on top of that, they appear to be exempt from certain rules the rest of us have to follow. Justice seems to be in favor of a rich person and their expensive lawyers vs the poor person and their public defender.

We don't have lower/middle/upper class anymore, it's more like lower/middle/upper/very upper/extremely upper/obscenely upper where even the well off are paupers by comparison.
