How Bad is The Cost of Living Squeeze In the US?

newtboy says...

I’m still waiting for you to explain how 75% inflation over 22 years becomes 150% increased prices under Biden as you claimed. Please, I need your expertise in mathematics to make the world make sense. 😂

To my dumber than a bag of hammers-
😂 🤦‍♂️ 😂
So that’s a “yes”, you do think the economy is worse now than in 2020 solely because inflation is doubled and you don’t understand earnings/purchase power . 🤦‍♂️
I grant you, inflation is still elevated, but down near 2/3 and well below what other countries are experiencing, so is getting better not worse. Hyperactive economies can tend to have inflation issues, and the Biden economy exploded like it was made of lithium deuteride.

Yes booby, prices have gone up on average, they always do…and on average everyone makes more too….much more. If prices go up 3% and wages go up 6% you have 3% more buying power, A GAIN…that’s pretty basic math for it to go so far over your head. In 2020 prices went up near 1.5% (for items still on shelves) but wages went DOWN near 6% (for those who were still employed) for a >7% LOSS in buying power. See how Bidenomics is better yet?

Probably not…ask a 3rd grader…is being able to buy 3% more yearly better than only being able to buy >7% less than last year?

Earning power is rising fast, double inflation, so are GDP and employment rates unlike under Trump when not only was there still inflation (granted much less thanks to the floundering MAGA economy) but wages actually went down significantly GDP went NEGATIVE and up to 20 million jobs evaporated thanks to mismanagement (NZ didn’t have that problem).

When inflation is barely above 3% and wages are rising at near 6%, yes, things cost more, and average people can also BUY MORE you fucking idiot.
I know, that’s keeping two things in your head at once, so impossible for you to comprehend, but trust me, that’s reality. You should try it some time.
You think you have something because inflation went up, largely thanks to Trumps horrific last year of hyper spending and the economic crash his mismanagement caused but also due to Biden’s economic recovery outpacing the most optimistic predictions…but you are too dumb to see the other half of the earning equation…wages. Since earnings are rising at double inflation, people can buy more.
Again, in 2020 wages went down almost 6% with 1.5% inflation (during a massive negative gdp) so earning power went down by almost 7.5%…today inflation is 3.24 but wages are rising at nearly 6%, giving a RISE in earning power of 2.75%. That is a >10% difference, going from a 7.5% loss of buying power in 2020 to a 2.75% rise this year…and no recession. That’s called winning.
Inflation is only one part of the equation, buddy, and is absolutely meaningless without the other parts.

Yes, I repeated myself…I hoped by saying it over and over some might get through.

Interest rates…😂😂😂 true, Biden didn’t lower rates to zero and still have a stalled economy, he had to raise them to combat inflation…it worked, and hasn’t stalled the boom yet. You claim to be rich…high interest rates shouldn’t mean a thing to you…or do you really carry massive debt and aren’t really rich at all? 😂

As a side note, the stock market is also booming, paying great for those who are invested. Similar to wage growth since many (like me) live off investment earnings.

Gas prices have dropped sharply, today below $3 in 1/3 of the country and $.22 lower than a year ago on average. That’s costing LESS! Try again.

Many staple food prices are lower too. National average turkey prices were cheaper than last year, so are eggs. Try again.

According to Edmonds, “ The good news is that, in general, prices have been on the decline since late 2022. In May 2022, the average selling price of a vehicle was about $721 over MSRP. Compare that to July 2023, when the average selling price was about $714 below MSRP.”. Try again.

American's purchase power is rising, under Trump it plummeted like never before. I know, you just don’t understand. It’s ok boob. Adults understand.

I bought a bag of hammers for $10 at a yard sale…it was incredibly smart of me. I got about 10 hammers including 3 small sledge hammers and 2 metal framing hammers. My bag of hammers purchase was quite smart. 😂

Boob, get a brain. You might ask the scarecrow how he got his, because you really need help. I’ve never met a person as dumb and delusional as yourself, and I’ve known some real idiots.

Try this simple example.
Last week a soda cost you $1, and you made $12 an hour ($1 every 5 minutes). This week a soda costs $1.20 but your pay went to $15 ($1 every 4 minutes). Yes, the soda costs more this week…INFLATION!…are you better off now or were you better off with cheaper soda last week? Show your work. (I’m pretty certain that second grade math is just too hard and I won’t see a reply).

THIS IS WHY YOU FAIL EVERY TIME BOOB. BECAUSE YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU RANT ABOUT AT ALL.
GO TO SCHOOL AND LEARN THE BASICS.

Gas , food , cars, interest rates all cost more.

There's a quote that's about Jesus only hanging around with 12 men, all sailors; I just can't place the quote.

The frustrating thing is I think it might have been Monty Python related, and that's the only stuff that doesn't leave my brain. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about?

Cost of living 2001 vs today

cloudballoon says...

Stupid. A more appropriate comparison would be to show the US's inflation rate compared to other (advanced) countries.

Go look it up at places like https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/inflation-rate-by-country

Whether Obama/Trump/Biden; Pre- or Post-pandemic... the United States is doing fine... most advanced/developed countries in the G7/10/12 are doing far, FAR worse.

While stagnation and/or sustained deflation is worse, a country that goes into hyper-inflation (think Venezuela), like Trump like to do for his properties, is the worse.

The myopic lens, living-under-a-rock people like Bob goes through their lives, and how little they know of the world... man.... is sad & pathetic.

A sane analysis of an insane situation

newtboy says...

In January 2020, the Donald Trump-led Justice Department formally declared that impeachment inquiries by the House are invalid unless the chamber takes formal votes to authorize them, which has not happened.

The FBI, DOJ, AG, and other government departments are bound by their still valid decision, so won’t be responding to any subpoenas until the full house votes for the inquiry.

This inquiry is going to be the freedom caucus alone in a room with no witnesses or evidence because their inquiry is not valid without a full house vote first. Hopefully the Democrats will put a babysitter in there to watch them so they don’t foment another coup attempt.

https://www.politico.com/news/2023/09/12/trump-doj-assist-biden-impeachment-probe-00115393#:~:text=In%20January%202020%2C%20the%20Donald,formal%20vote
s%20to%20authorize%20them.

Edit: even after caving and trying to start this illegal inquiry, McCarthy is still facing a removal vote from his own party, and has indicated he expects a government shutdown at the end of this month if Social Security and Medicaid aren’t cut drastically or ended completely. More proof Republicans can’t lead and are the worst possible stewards of the economy or nation.

Let's talk about Trump, Georgia, $200,000, and bail....

No, that’s dumb, pretending these people’s responses aren’t either totally staged or a 1% cut of their actual interviews, but it’s still not as dumb as your previous attempt to spin a fourth indictment on 91 anti-American felonies and a mug shot as a positive for the “law and order” party. 😂
PS- lawsuits disqualifying Trump from being on the ballot are being filed already in Florida.

Shaneyyricch? 😂 More getting your “unbiased news” from dishonest hyper partisan nobodies on YouTube. At some point you might rethink that, it’s been disastrous for you.

Trump got under 12% of the “black” vote in 2020 (being generous, some polls show him below 10%, still up from 8% in 16)…but based on your posts you must think he got 90%+. It’s complete lunacy.

(Paraphrasing)- “Blacks for Trump” represent the entire non white community and they all love trump for being a criminal

Let's talk about the Trump Georgia indictment contents....

newtboy says...

😂
Hilarious YOU are complaining that prosecutors are “gunning full speed to file charges against Trump” because the RAPIST has been complaining vociferously that they slow walked these charges that he claims should have been brought Jan 21 2021 (despite some charges stemming from actions he took in September 21 and later), and says they’re slow walking them to delay until 2024 … ignoring or trying to hide from the fact that 99% of delays came from Trump and his cohorts forcing prosecutors to repeatedly go all the way to the Supreme Court to get their testimony or documents in their efforts to delay trials until after the election. 😂

Republicans dismissed the accusations (not charges) against Clinton after 12 failed investigations found absolutely nothing criminal. Nada, nothing, none, zip, zilch, bumpkis.
Hunter (a private citizen so total 100% red herring) is going to court likely before Trump. His father COULD pardon him and end the nonsensical persecution “by just thinking about it”, but instead a special prosecutor was just empaneled.

Trump the rapist is only running so he can pardon himself from the list of 91 serious felony charges (and growing) he faces today for defrauding and assaulting the American government and people.

What insanity are you believing now?

bobknight33 said:

Odd that the left is gunning full speed to file charges against Trump all the while they slow walk or dismiss charges for Democrats like Hunter and Hillary.

Karma Hits Russia Hard

newtboy says...

If the US had used directed weather as a weapon in Iraq, or breached levies to flood cities it would have been proper to laugh at the ironic disaster in New Orleans. Remember, the support for attacking the wrong country to retaliate for 9/11 was incredibly high (yes, thinly predicated on what are now known to be blatant lies…we didn’t care), we were not a nation of innocents…(I personally supported attacking Saidi Arabia and doing limited but overwhelming “police actions” in Afghanistan to completely destroy the actual perpetrators, then rebuild any collateral damage better and make friends, and never bought the rationale for invading Iraq beyond “they tried to kill my daddy”- GB…but who listens to me?)

I felt it was karma specifically balancing the universe for the Ukrainian dam they blew up in a terrorist action just over 2 months ago, not the continuing invasion of Ukraine that’s been ongoing and expanding continuously since 2014 when Ukrainian Crimea was invaded and “annexed” by Russia, a move seemingly universally applauded in Russia.

I think there’s delicious schadenfreude in the very religious country that continues to support repeated violent genocidal expansionism against peaceful neighbors thinly predicated on blatant lies (but that support is waning slightly as the war and truth comes home), the aggressor nation that among numerous war crimes intentionally destroyed a major dam to sew chaos destruction and death as they retreated from portions of Ukraine and set forest fires for the same reason having to deal with forest fires and dam failures as “acts of god”, not even from military retaliation.

I do feel a bit bad for the individuals and families if reports of 12 dead are true (it’s Russian news, so likely untrue), but that number is dwarfed by those intentionally killed in their names by the dam destruction in Ukraine.

Agreed on the narration…it was the only coverage I found at the time….well, there was this but even I found it in bad taste…

noims said:

I didn't laugh or celebrate when Katrina hit New Orleans the year after the US invaded Iraq. I won't celebrate a dam bursting in far east Russia the year after they invade Ukraine.

I don't think the people of Ussuriysk deserved wildfires any more than the people of California.

It's not karma. If you want you can call it bad luck, or mankind suffering due to our own effect on the planet.

Plus, I would have thought an AI wrote that script except I think it would have done a better job. Am I missing context when it comes to 'the flood'? Badly written, badly voiced, but not quite enough for me to downvote.
