Your very first video made top 15!! What a great start...and it looks like your others are headed in that direction also! I might as well just quit now - you're taking over the site.

I enjoyed watching your videogame violence one and your marijuana one too (that was a long one but worth the watch)...I really like how you choose things that promote discussion...I hope there will be many more comments on them.

As for the music...I wasn't sure if you grew up listening to that music or not and if that is why you liked it. Though I like the new stuff, I still have a special fondness for 80's and 90's music because it brings back so many good memories when I listen to it. I still think Pink Floyd kicks ass though, (when I'm in the mood for it).

My favorite Pink Floyd song:

Thanks! I'll try to get some more interesting stuff up since (I think) I've still got another empty queue spot.

And really, to be perfectly fair, I've only started listening to some of these old classics very recently, so I'm sort of still in that phase where the love is all hot and bothered.

You didn't disappoint me!!! I'm only on for a moment, but came by just to see if you had posted something new. Another wonderful choice! You are so good at this.

I agree that you can't really compare Daft Punk to Pink Floyd or Jimi Hendrix, but there's only so much classic rock (I guess it would fit into that category) I can take before I start to become bored. I like new, I crave new music - something I've never heard before.

Gotta run...will be back later.

Aye, aye, ma'am!

And few bands have aged as gracefully as Daft Punk. There are others I prefer for their amazingly awesomely spectacularly essentially fantastical musical brilliance (Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix, to name a couple), but it's hard to match Daft Punk for sheer catchiness!

I hadn't even noticed that the loathing of this band had become so ubiquitous as to become cliché.

I'm pretty happy about it, though.

Really, I'm just so tired of all these retro-fetishist, nature-romanticist hipsters with their beards and their work boots and their flannel shirts, treating masculinity as an accessory because they honestly just don't know any better. They're all just perpetual adolescents who for the life of them cannot seem to figure out what it means to become an adult. So they try to find shortcuts.

Dylan was pretentious, but he was also a genius lyricist. Seriously, no bandwagon here, and I don't know if I'd call him the greatest songwriter of all time, but... he was good. Dylan was also highly political, and could be fairly incisive, while these confused little boys, all these hipster douchebags who seem to think that honesty can be bought at a thrift store, only ever sing about flowers and trees and broken hearts.

And they're all the same. Always. As a group, they are so homogenous that it becomes offensive to me.

Why thank you, I'll be back to visit your unsifted folder tomorrow morning. You've got plenty of time so find something good for me to watch.

The site traffic is based on my observations alone...I just don't notice as many votes or comments on my own videos on weekends. I also like to check to see who's online quite often, and there don't seem to be as many people. You can see that if you click on the sift talk forum tab. The current users online are listed to the right if you scroll down that page a bit.

Get lucky...you just put that song in my head. Good song!

It's getting quite late, so I probably won't post anything more till tomorrow, so you are hereby excused.

And it's interesting to know how the community moves - though I am surprised that the dips occur during the weekend. I would have figured it to be the other way around.

I suppose I'll just have to get lucky.

pumkinandstorm says...

The weekends are usually slower than weekdays so you might not get the same type of discussion on it...though it really just depends on who happens to watch it and if they have something to contribute to the subject. I hope it gets people talking again. It is an important topic that deserves more awareness. TEDTalks videos are also quite popular here.

Procrastinatron said:

Yeah, I noticed that too.

And I definitely hope we get some takers! The discussion on your vid was really interesting, and this is one of those subjects that just don't get discussed very often but are becoming more and more critical and definitely need to be aknowledged.

pumkinandstorm says...

Now I wish I'd bet you something more...I had no idea you would be so generous. I will cherish my precious shillings. I love being right.

Are you going to post anymore today? I won't be logging in again until tomorrow, so if I don't come by to watch them, that is why.

Procrastinatron said:

I'd say I owe you more than just two shillings, but...

Also, thanks for the info about promotes, and it's nice to know my point wasn't wasted! Now I can finally sift more stuff.

pumkinandstorm says...

I'm gifting you some points for self promotes. I noticed you didn't have enough for that last one.

You will see at the top right corner of your profile page, right beside where it says "Hello, Procrastinatron" that there is a number in brackets. That is the number of power points currently in your possession. You earn them in different ways...I'll explain that another time. You currently are able to promote your own videos only at a cost of 2 power points.

Great new post by the way, let the discussion continue!!

pumkinandstorm says...

I saw you promoted it and you did not waste a power point. A promote lasts for 3 hours and a double promote for 6...quality keeps it at the front of the hot page for much longer than it would be otherwise, depending on how popular a video is (there really isn't a number of hours for quality). You promoted it approximately 5 1/2 hours after I double promoted it. That means it will be featured there for 9 hours. It doesn't matter that you promoted it before the 6 hours was up - you will still get the 9 hours.

It will sift!! I bet you two shillings it will.

Procrastinatron said:

That's a good method, and I'll have to remember that the next time I need to address several different people with the same comment.

By the way - how long does "promote" and "doublepromote" float a video on the front page for? I can't see it written anywhere, and I'm fairly certain I just wasted a power point promoting my video because... well, because I got sort of antsy, and because I didn't know several videos could take up the "featured" spot on the front page.

It's amazing how obvious things always seem to become when you've just made the mistake of being rash.

pumkinandstorm says...

Haha! Though I can see your point and do agree it would be best for people to get to know you better before making waves, the maturity level of the members on this site might surprise you. Sure there are fucks flying around here and there, but rarely in that sort of way...they are almost always accompanied by a rational explanation or a bit of humor and I don't think it would matter if you were a long time member or a brand spanking new one...I'm pretty certain you would receive the same type of response.

Procrastinatron said:

Exactly. If people are more accustomed to my presence, I will be able to disagree with them more freely. However, if I simply rush in, many will use the fact that I am very new to the community to validate their emotional reactions - leading to an emotional response - instead of actually dealing with said emotional reactions and giving me a rational response.

In other words, instead of giving me a rational response - that is, they actually bother to tell me why they think I am wrong - their response will look something like this (though the phrasing depends on the maturity of the speaker): "Who the fuck are you? I don't know you, but you're wrong. Who the fuck do you think you are? Just shut up already."

At least, that's how it usually goes.

Also, I actually had a question for you! Several times now I have felt the need to multi-quote either different messages from different users, or different messages from the same user, but I am unable to find a way to do so, and since VS doesn't show me the actual code for the quotes in the message, I can't seem to do it manually. Is there something that I've missed here, or is multi-quoting simply not supported by VideoSift?

pumkinandstorm says...

I see @chingalera answered your question. Further to that, what I would do to save quoting each person individually....is respond by either writing a new comment (or you could quote one of the comments)....and then by using the @ sign in front of other members names, they will be notified that they were mentioned.

Procrastinatron said:

Hey, thanks - both for the help and for the welcome!

Well, I s'pose that's how it'll have to be. I'm actually pretty happy that we can use HTML here, though, because it just makes things so much easier in the long run. Being able to simply click buttons for similar effects may seem better at first, but in the end, it always ends up limiting you somehow, in my opinion.

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome, and I'm glad to finally be a part of the community.

pumkinandstorm says...

I'm happy to hear that you won't be discouraged by downvotes. That might keep some people from speaking their minds. As long as you can state your opinion while still being respectful to other members, I don't imagine you will see too many downvotes.

I hope you're going to continue to like it here!!!

Procrastinatron said:

Exactly! And really, if I deserve downvotes then I deserve downvotes. I won't begrudge others their thought-out decisions and their honest opinions, but I will most definitely begrudge them their childish pettiness and their mindless malice.

So, there are many feathers in VideoSift's cap already. I think I'm going to enjoy my stay here, and I've got awesome users like yourself to thank for that!
