San Diego has some of the best Mexican food I've ever had.
Fish Tacos. Gotta try one. Sounds gross, but man it's good.

Why do you torture me thusly? You know I can't get good Mexican here. We make the best fish tacos in all of Australia here at home, but it doesn't hold a candle to Rubio's.
I used to eat at Rubio's in San Diego in the early 90s when there was only one out by the SDSU campus. Should have bought stock.
Dag, I think you and I were neighbors in SD back in the early 90s. I was there from Feb to May of 92. What a fun place to be: Mission Beach, Tijuana, Dunkin Donuts. Well, maybe not so much Dunkin Donuts, but SD is rad.

We probably were. I went to University of San Diego - the big blue dome on the hill. I lived on Mission Beach though with roommates. Rubios was almost every weekend - unless it was three rolled tacos with guac down at the beach. - Or I knew this place that made the BEST carnitas burrito.
Oh man, I'm so hungry now - but not for what's in the fridge.
Wow, you and I were 3.5 miles apart: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=San+Diego,+CA+NTC+San+Diego+The+old+Radioman+%22A%22+School+%4032.734566,-117.219373&daddr=5998+Alcala+Park,+San

I used to walk everywhere just about, because being the military you are very poor, so you either take the bus or hoof it everywhere. I remember walking to Ocean Beach a lot, though I was a big fan of Mission Beach.
Did you ever go to a place in Mission Beach called "Blacks"? I know that's a random question. [EDIT] Apparently I couldn't a href that link or else it wouldn't work.

No, that doesn't ring a bell. I used to go down with my Girlfriend and ride The Big Dipper in Mission Beach. There was some night club there called "The Red Onion" that I went to a couple of times. We used to go down to TJ a lot to a big nightclub that was shaped like a cave called "Baby Rock".

Also, in North Mission, there was a place that had awesome breakfast Burritos, Konos. Right on the water
Well, 'Black' was a headshop/anarchist book shop of sorts, yet still cool. Konos, The Big Dipper and The Red Onion don't sound familiar. Mainly because I was only there for 11 weeks while I was 18, and I was not one to absorb the names of places.
Wasn't "Dog Beach" part of Mission Beach? I wonder if they changed that.
DFT and I were just down in San Diego recently, and it's the first time we rode the Big Dipper AND I got a souvenir glass tumbler to boot!
I used to live in PB, from 84-93, where Rottenseed is so lucky to be living now. I remember the Red Onion, when the Mission Beach coaster wasn't even operating and hell, The Black was my church. (It still is. ) We used to wake & bake, then go for weekend bike rides while I lived in Clairemont, down through PB, into LJ and make it to the glider port overlooking Black's Beach. Then we'd ride back down through University City, stop and get gyros at the mall and get back home in the late afternoon.
Man, I miss it there. You never know how lucky you have it until you think back, you know?
Oh yeah, and Rubio's is the shit! I'm lucky enough to have a few in Vegas. Will have to try those.
It's a small world.

That's the original Rubio's
