I fell out of the car just like that when I was a small child, but it was as we were approaching a red light, not making a u-turn. (Fortunately the lady in the lane next to us stopped before she drove over me.)

I'm pretty sure it was that event that caused me to be essentially unable to ride in a car without wearing my seatbelt.

Moral of the story? Everyone should push your kid out of a moving car so they will always wear their seatbelt for the rest of their life.
