Why Healthcare Costs So Much

Anyone who has an honest interest in the healthcare reform debate should listen to what Peter Schiff has to say about it.

I'm sorry, but this guy is just so full of shit it hurts. I'd like just once, for someone who claims that insurance leads to overutilization to supply some small fuckin piece of evidence. Nobody I know goes to the doctor because they like to go, they go when they're sick, and usually when they're sick enough they have no real choice.

He goes even farther, and claims that the fact that insurance is paid for pre-tax is the root cause. I'll bet you any amount of money that if you track -his- income, you'll find a large chunk of it comes from the Wealthcare for Billionaires crowd.

The reason healthcare is so expensive here is because it's structured to encourage that. We pay everyone involved on a fee for service basis, which means the more procedures/equipment they perform or sell, the more money they earn. Is anyone here too stupid to predict the outcome of that pay structure?
