Where would Jesus shop?

Oh Theo this is so *you* ;-)

It's sad when "Christians" pull up the soap box for this sort of thing. Aren't there enough real problems in the world on which they can focus their attention?

If this guy followed every dollar he put down in his life to make sure every person that recieved it was morally deserving for it (according to his standards), he would have to stop participating in life on Earth.

1.6 million women suing? Being sued for something doesn't make it true. Health coverage? Walmart literally has industry leading health coverage. And it's elective, if those people don't have it it's because they choose not to have it. You have to work a certain number of hours per week to keep your coverage, but the same is true everywhere. Breaking labor laws is something that happens locally, 1 person makes a decision (a bad one) and a law gets broken. It has nothing to do with the company as a whole, and when individuals break labor laws, they get fired in a sudden, instant, and immediate fashion. I don't work for walmart, but I have friends who do and it's a good company to work for. They have by far the best employee stock purchase plan in the industry, and anybody from a door greeter on up can participate. Their wages are competive for the local markets. Trash talking walmart does not help the little guy, in only hurts. Which isn't very Christian.

[full disclosure: I don't really know who theangelking lobbies for, but I have colleagues who are working on the Walmart class action lawsuit]

The somewhat depressing fact about Walmart's business structure is that full-time employees are indeed eligible for health benefits, but employees pay 35 percent, almost double the national average, so many are too poor at a $6 -$7 hour wage to opt in. In addition, the deductibles are obscenely high and state emergency welfare health care often offers more coverage, especially for people with families.

Similarly, most workers can't afford to buy the stock. And voting power for these stocks remains with Wal-Mart management so efforts to unionize or reform from within are pretty hopeless. And returns for pensions have not been that stellar for WM associate/door greeter stockholders.

I won't go into the gender and upper management issues. Suffice it to say that the case is working its way through the process and Walmart has some exposure.

Finally, Walmart literally eats the local market. Unlike my colleagues, I do kind of admire Walmart's predatory rural business model and its efficient distribution network. However, in most rural areas now, Walmart has no local competition in the market and you cannot really make that wage comparison statement with a straight face.

I will stop short of saying that Walmart is the Antichrist, though. I'll leave that to the theists.

That commercial is paid for by the UFCW. They organize food workers or grocery stores. Acme for instance is union run. For the most part, this organization backs dems. Also, either they or some of their offshoots (not sure on the specifics) have been trying to organize WalMart employees for some time now. WalMart, in the states, just overpowers the efforts however. China has/will have union run Walmarts, but that is government sanctioned, and in no way mirrors start-up unions in america that greatly contributed to our powerful middle class. So, what I'm saying is, this isn't a commercial that coincides with the evangelical agenda. This is a much different way of using God/Christianity to scare us. You'd think this non-religious organization would just let people know the facts about WalMart and see what happens. Bringing Jesus into the equation is probably just that much more effective. Still, I hate when the other side does it, so I guess I have to condone this religion/fear-based propaganda as well. The clip itself however is a good representation of how anyone, with any agenda, can use Christianity to distract people from what actually matters.
