Surfing In Germany - In A River

LiveLeak: Despite being a couple hundred miles away from the closest water, I was baffled to actually see people surfing in Germany; heard of these river contraptions, but this was really rad to see. Props to all the guys and girls out there champing the freezing water. Us up in Norcal whine about the water being cold (4-3 wet suits and all), can't imagine how much we'd bitch hopping into this death trap. Surprisingly people die right here in this spot each year....

This is a standing wave. There are standing-wave parks now in some areas of the world. I've never ridden one, so I don't know the difference between that and ocean surfing, but the first I learned of them I had an instant fantasy about owning a home near a river, so I could make one for myself. =D

If you aren't paddling you aren't surfing, you're just riding on a board..
Unless you are being towed into some 40'+ monster. In which case you aren't really surfing either, you're displaying your massive balls to the world. I've been pounded into the sand by 10-12' waves and come up wondering how I survived. I can not even fathom something bigger than that.
