Palo Alto High School responds to Baptist Hate picketing

Usually when this nonsense happens, people say "don't feed the trolls" and counsel ignoring them. I think this response looks much more satisfying.

You may think the response looks more satisfying, but you gave them what they wanted - exposure. These morons will not go away as long as people keeping giving them exposure. They are like attention craving 5 year-olds. Seriously, IGNORE THEM!! Even conservatives hate them because they harass the families of dead soldier, they only have the support and attention we give them!

In this case I think it's fair to say the WBC were overshadowed. Also, consider the positive effects of the school and community coming together like they did.

I think the 55 year old WBC with their ~41,000 protests to date have made it pretty clear that they're not going away if they're ignored OR challenged. This way there is a positive result of their protest with people coming together in the name of tolerance.

YES!
And as a person who opposes everything they stand for, i hope they get all the exposure they possibly can, cos the backlash effect of it is counter protest events like this.
This is the closest our generation will ever get to the "flower power" of previous generations.

No, I don't think ignoring them will make them go away. They're ideologically committed to spreading the message that homosexuals and anybody who tolerates them will go to hell. Childhood indoctrination is so effective, no matter the content, that it may take centuries for this group to die out. WBC is sort of like a cancer that's slowly growing. The fecundity of the followers of an ideology seems to be more important than the validity of the ideology in determining its prevalence.

While the students are being happy and having fun I can imagine the younger people on the picket line secretly wishing they were on the other side of the road; or at least doubting that they're doing anything so bad.

If that happens then those kids might grow up talking about how they used to be a crazy christian; which would make the student's response here a resounding success.
