Authorities say the 19-year-old son of an Israeli diplomat will not escape charges after authorities accused him of “intentionally” running over a Sunny Isles Beach police lieutenant over the weekend — at least not based on a diplomatic immunity claim, officials say.

After running from police multiple times the teen ran over a police officer attempting to run again, and was caught and charged with attempted murder. His defense attorney said he had diplomatic immunity because his father was a diplomat with immunity, and the court released him without charges based on that statement, which was false. Not only does he not have diplomatic immunity, neither does his father who is a lawyer for the consulate, not a diplomat.

It remains to be seen if the state intends to charge him now that they know he lied, it is likely too late and he has returned to Israel with the help of the Israeli government who does not extradite their own citizens, escaping the charges completely.
