This screenshot of what they saw while submitting their video should help elucidate the crux of the matter:

Why was this person banned? Looks like all they did was share a video....and a couple of regular users agreed to ban them? I'd like to know what exactly was in this video that caused a "ban". I was looking through media and press and found this video, and it's like the whole world is watching it, yet you guys ban someone for sharing it? Maybe I'm unaware of the "rules" in this community or something, seems pretty "bully-like" to me though.

lucky760says...

Yep, you're exactly right. Members here don't take kindly to people ignoring the huge, repetitive warnings.

The no-self-linking policy is one of the core values held close to the heart of the community and a big part of the reason we have such a great catalog of videos (instead of tons of garbage from people trying to get their videos more views).

If you like the stuff you find, stick around and enjoy. Otherwise, thank for stopping by!

popfan1224said:

Oh ok, just wondering because I've never seen Videosift before. I'm just a huge fan of the band and found this on a google search when I was kinda stalking lol. I guess the poster was maybe one of their people or something? I know the video ins't like, innappropriate so maybe the 'self promotion' thing was the reason. The band has a big following and a couple people direct messaged me on twitter saying they saw it was banned on this site too and we were all wondering why. Thanks for the info.

lucky760says...

Oh no. Music videos are totally allowed. In fact I just posted one: http://videosift.com/video/Players-Gonna-Play-Haters-Gonna-Hate-Shake-It-Off

Self-promotion is the issue. The idea is everyone thinks their own stuff is great but the real judges are objective third-parties so those are who can post.

popfan1224said:

I'm a bit confused though. Is it a "no music video" policy, or just a "no self promotion" policy? I don't know who Kellymml is, but I do know that I have several accounts where I use MML within my screen name because I'm a fan, and I share there stuff all over. So that being said, can I not share their stuff in here being a fan? Or .......? lol. Just curious to the rules, haven't run into this before. Thanks for replying so quickly!

lucky760says...

If I can speak frankly, you're talking out of your ass. You're inventing facts out of thin air and doing so with pretty intense, unjustifiable fervor.

The submitter of this video has a 100% absolute link to the band. (Being "linked" to the band does not imply the submitter is a band member.)

andyboynashsaid:

kellymml is one of their fans. This is not a person that's in the band. Why was this banned if it was posted by a fan? If you would actually go to their site, you would clearly see that there is nobody in the band named kelly. And if you would take the time to go to their facebook, there is a fan named kellymml. but it looks like you are too quick to jump to some kind of conclusion than actually go do some verification. Sad.

Hello all,
I've just been alerted to this thread through the a few fans of this band. Maybe I can shed some light on what seems to have happened. First of all, I co-manage this band and NO, I will not be posting any videos, because obviously that would be a violation of this websites rules. Understood, they're trying to keep this an entirely "spam free zone" and not used for any type of promotional tool.
That being said, I also understand why KellyMML posted the video here. KellyMML has not "lied" or tried to spam anyone in anyway, NOR did she post this video for some type of self promotion, as Kelly is NOT a band member nor is she a paid employee in any way shape or form. She IS however a street team leader, but is not paid, given any types of gifts or holds any kind of "rank" within the management company.
Kelly was one of the artists earliest fans, and through her own enjoyment and wanting to be a part of their growth, as taken to sharing their work online through out the world, and I must say has done an incredible job of it.

I completely understand the views that the site owners take on spam, and not wanting VideoSift to become some annoying sounding board of musicians/comedians/actors and up-and-comers posting constantly about their "not yet anything" dreams. I get it. There are plenty of websites out there that allow this and I myself have become irritated at having to scroll through trash to see something good lol.

After some digging, I was able to contact Kelly myself and figure out why this may have happened. Kelly informed me that when she email the website to find out how to put a video up, they replied to her with instructions AND the rules. Still confused, I asked her to forward me that email.
I immediately saw where the confusion begin.
Kelly worded her email as if she WERE either a bandmember, or in the very least someone who works for them. This isn't the case, but it's noticeable by reading her inquiry why it looked that way.
After she read the rules, she posted the video. I'm guessing that because she used those terms when she first contacted VideoSift, they assumed (understandably so) that "we and our" meant this was some type of self promotion.
Since I've been notified of this issue, Kelly has been instructed that while she is more than welcome to run a street team for MML and we appreciate her spreading the word, to please not refer to herself, or any of her posts/shares/activities as if she were connected with the band either AS a member, or as an employee of management, and to also identify herself as a fan. She is also welcomed to explain that she runs her own street team but is not employed by or managed by anyone on their professional team.

Hope this clears some things up. Feel free to contact me at cassie at mondaysmonalisa dot com if you need any other information. We would like to dispell any negativity affiliated with Monday's Mona Lisa.
Thank you!

Hi Cassie-

I had no memory of Kelly emailing us before, so that wasn't why this video was deemed a self-link, but here is her original inquiry via email prior to posting this video:

I would like to know how I can get our video played on your website. It is being released today Monday Oct 20, 2014. It is titled "Katy Perry" by Monday's Mona Lisa.
And this was our email response to Kelly:
You can submit a sponsored post. That's the only way to post your own content on VideoSift. See the following link:
http://videosift.com/sponsored/vidpost
Kelly disregarded our reply and even if she really read the posting guidelines, she must have just skimmed them or ignored those as well because one line clearly states you may not submit a video if:
"You are in any way responsible for or involved in marketing, promoting, or any other manner of proliferating the video."
It should be obvious that a street team member qualifies as being involved in promoting the band's content.

I think you've done well to explain to anyone who might come across this that the band isn't full of a bunch of spammers, but I also think you needn't be too concerned about this post because it's very unlikely to be found by anyone looking up the band. And even if they do, they are even less likely to read through all these comments once they see the video doesn't exist here.

Thanks!

Yes, her email saying:

"I would like to know how I can get our video played on your website. It is being released today Monday Oct 20, 2014. It is titled "Katy Perry" by Monday's Mona Lisa."

to me would definitely look as if she were employed by this team. However she's NOT, and while I do understand your views on street teams being considered "qualified in promoting the bands content", that view actually spans an incredibly large spectrum of people.

Working in the entertainment industry for 20 years now, I can promise you that street teams which are set up by the fans themselves are nothing more than fans who group themselves together and create their own "job" so to speak, and share something they enjoy. Does it help push an entertainer forward? Of course it does. Does the entertainer have any connection other than "thank you to our fans"? No, not unless it's an official street team employed by the artist through payment or gifts of merchandise/tickets/etc.

I'm not at all concerned with someone randomly coming across this post and viewing MML in a negative light now that I've found it an been able to explain the situation. I am however a little bummed that their video can't be up here because of how the fans email was written. This particular video is actually the type of content that gets shared because of it's comedy factor to be honest, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to know that others may attempt to share it at a later date because of that.

One question I have, is it only "KellyMML" that is blacklisted from here? Or is it anything related to this band?

Thanks in advance.

lucky760says...

As I stated, it wasn't about her email to us. I had no memory of it at the time she was blacklisted.

Yes, street team members, despite being fans, are still people involved with the promotion of a band and cannot submit such content to VideoSift. It doesn't matter at all that they aren't getting anything in return (other than a warm, fuzzy feeling); what matters is that their reason for submitting is to promote the band.

KellyMML is blacklisted for violating the posting guidelines. If anyone else submits in violation of the posting guidelines, they too will be banned. But there's no kind of content filter against your band or anything.

Thanks!
