How Corporations Manufacture Consent: Teabagger Edition

No need to build a genuine grass roots movement based on informed thought. Exploit the fears of susceptible, demoralized people and they'll do anything you tell them to.
NordlichReitersays...

The very first teabaggery was before fox news got involved. I believe it started in Texas, while dealing with some douchebaggery from the governor there.

TEA = Taxed Enough Already.

If you live in the united states, then you can understand being taxed out the ass.

There is a tax for every thing. There are even taxes that you may not know about!?

Really We already have a shit load of consumption tax, do we really need Income Taxes too?

Nithernsays...

Yes, NOW, these idiots want to debate and have dialogue regarding Health Care Reform. They want it, because, the HCR is almost ready to be rolled out and shown to the country. They want/need their piece of the pie. Because if they dont, democrats can challenge them in their district: "This person didn't want you to be healthy, nor, an educated consumer, vote for Mr. Democrat instead and be on the winning team!"

Then...

Over the summer, as we all know, republicans, conservatives, and everyone's 'honest' and most 'trustworthy' news organization, Fox News, tried to kill HCR. They tried at rallies, at town meetings, and even on the airwaves/internet. It came across to most moderates (the ones I've talked to at least), as be immature, uneducated, unintelligence, and un-American. And after all that crap, these people pulled, their efforts, F-A-I-L-E-D.

Now...

Some of them want to vote 'yes', but only if they can score some pork for their disctrict. That's right conservatives, its going on right now. The very people that said, they are opposed to pork spending of ANY kind, are taking bribes to get money for their district. No, it wont be in the actual act of the HCR, but in a month or a few. When none of you are looking or paying attention. They know, you conservatives are not a very educated or wise bunch to begin with.

The taxocrap cowards won't even reveal what's in the obamascare bill, which will be an expensive disaster no matter what form escapes. Liberal fail always has to be snuck in under the radar, why do you think that is?

Ten months of this bullsh;t, 11% unemployment, more and more taxes proposed, Iran on the fast track to nukes, and the best this Red House can do is attack Fox and talk radio, the ONLY voices challenging his royal highness's incompetence and hypocrisy.

Doesn't take a corporation's message to know Obama is a screw-up the people still know almost nothing about, including the IDIOTS who voted for him. Yeah. YOU.

NetRunnersays...

It's very easy to get national attention for any "grassroots" protest when it's funded by corporate interest groups and promoted by a cable news network.

Getting attention for real grassroots protests is a little more difficult.

Remember how the Iraq war attracted some of the largest protests in Washington of all time?

Yeah, me neither. I only read about them years later, because the TV machine told me war was inevitable, easy, and not at all about oil.

universal health care would save us money!!! We here in the USA pay more per person while not covering everyone and getting near-bottom quality. Medicare is way more efficient than any private insurer and there are all the other western world countries to use as an example of cheaper and better quality than what we get from private insurers who do kill off people by denying coverage, capping coverage or even ending coverage when they feel like it much unlike the socialist systems all over europe where people are all covered and are not denied coverage. It is like the teabaggers are making every point for universal healthcare and against the private insurers while claiming the opposite. It so great to see a grass roots movement of the people standing up for a few rich fat cats who only have millions in campaign contributions to defend themselves with against a more rational system that is proven to work everywhere else in the world.

PS. damn I write weird long sentences when I am tired...

NordlichReitersays...

I will cede the position that Health Care reform is not needed, only because I have experience in dealing with bullshit healthcare.

What is needed is reform across the board.

We can start with Ending the Federal Reserve, and repealing the Act that allowed that draconian organization/corporation to do whatever the hell it wants.

Simultaneously we can reform taxes, and thus reform health care.

Where there is corruption there is conformity, and fear. Those daring enough to avoid conformity will be labeled as heretics even if they are right.

Obama like every other POTUS is a hypocrite that much is proven by a Huge Embassy in Iraq, and the use of Signing statements to object to congress. Even though he stated he would not take that route.

On a side note, this will probably get me some flame, I find the banter between Netrunner, and QuantumMushroom to be typical of talking heads. I avoid reading anything by either of them because they are so far from the moderate standing that I cannot pain myself to read through either of their Partisan tripe. Its sort of like an unstoppable force meets the immovable object, and the rest of us are left here ducking for cover.

This is precisely the reason we have such a terrible system of governance. There is no real competition in our government because there are two parties, and when the third parties have to drum up millions of dollars to run for office that is hardly conducive to competition.

I will now step into my flame retardant suit, and I present you with a funny image.

Note that it was not my intention to spark a flame war between QuantumMushroom, Netrunner and or myself. Only to express my frustration with the two of them.

Ken and Daria Dolan are missing the point. The money doesn't go into someone else's pocket. It goes to someone else who then provides all kinds of shit for you. Want a gigantic armed force? Well, someone's gotta pay for it.

From Wikipedia:
For the 2009 fiscal year, the base budget of the Department of Defense rose to $518.3 billion.
