Hannity And Gingrich Agree With Barton On BP 'Shakedown'

I think this is an unpopular/unpolitical message, but I fear that it may be the right one. Beware the doubled edge sword, it cuts both ways. The day comes where the president will be Nero, and the precedent of power will established will be fearsome indeed. F BP, let them face the courts and get reamed. But F the president as well, the executive branch taking more power will not get this country back to were we need.

In principle, I agree.

But I know if the current president were aligned politically with Gingrich and Hannity, they would be cheering him on. They cheered on bush/cheney as they grabbed unprecedented power. (I guess they never figured it would be placed in the hand of a brother) I hoped that Obama would give it up, but that's a tall order for any human being to give up so much power.

Now we have a situation where a corporation (who increasingly have too much power themselves) has created a complete fuck-the-Earth disaster.

@GeeSussFreeK, except what they're saying is utter horseshit.

The President asking for, and receiving a concession from a private company is unconstitutional use of power?

Is it unconstitutional for the President to ask for time on TV networks to speak to the American people, and then get it?

There's no legal power being asserted here, and BP would have been perfectly within their rights to tell Obama to go jump into the oil-soaked Gulf.

Likewise, Obama would have been perfectly within his rights to tell everyone in the world that was their answer...

If that is the line he is walking, then it is a fine one. Where does the power of the bully pulpit end and the responsibilities of another branch of government begin? I really see this as a response to all that fox news pressure of "you're not emotional or doing enough" ect ect (which was all completely stupid). IF this was something they were already going to do, and IF he is interfering with the responsibility of the courts, THEN all this is, is political. Then again, why should that surprise me

What is less arguable an aim would be on the hole itself. The executive position was designed for quick, nimble action to respond to fast threats; not to take the role of universal arbiter. In the end, worse things can and have happened. I am not worried about today, per say, just tomorrows monster.

They were sooooo waiting for this... Hannity and Gingrich are two of the lowest scum on the planet. Almost every word from their mouths is self-serving drivel. Gingrich saying he's sure the bill will be over 20 Billion is ridiculous considering the settlements in the Exxon Valdez case (or lack there of). Not to mention the the money is only being held in escrow which they don't seem to understand.
