Game of Thrones: Syrio Forel's sword dance with Lannisters

*SPOILER WARNING*

Yet another good reason to watch this brilliant TV series

Why is that a good reason to watch? Idiot has a half dozen real swords lying about but he chooses to use a wooden one?
Nah, I liked the first book, second was meh, by the third I'd had enough.

The key to enjoyment of the series is using the same mentality that women use to enjoy the movies based on Jane Austin novels. In those movies, you have to care deeply for the characters mentioned and ignore the destitute poverty of the common folk of that era. Cry deeply for the wannabe noble woman that has her reputation in so much jeopardy that she might not be able to marry the guy who inherits 50k pounds - ignore the other 90% of the population that would cut their fingers off to feed their children if they didn't need those fingers to work for the nobility.

In this series, you need to think of the 'small folk' as subhuman. Their sole purpose is to get raped and killed and provide blade fodder for the worthy. Care fiercely for the rightful heir that is favored by the gods, and don't shed a tear for the father that has to watch his sons sliced up in front of him and his wife and daughter raped by that rightful heirs banner men in order to send a message.

If you can do this, the series is pure gold and will provide many hours of entertainment.

Honestly, after the 4th novel, I really don't care who wins in the end. All the characters are so blood thirsty I'm cheering for the Others at this point. I guess i'm still cheering for the Starks, but they've been through so much hell that their souls must be empty shells by now. Like torture victims that are so far gone that the best thing you can do for them is kill them.

Dammit residue! ponceleon's comment is only one sentence long! AAAaarrrggghhh! I'm curious though, how did you picture him? He seems pretty "Inigo Montoya" to me as far as the TV series goes.

Ezno, the TV series hasn't really come off like that IMO. The nobility (the decent ones you're supposed to be rooting for anyway) seem to come off as fairly understanding. Does what you're talking about come later, or am I just missing it?

f word, I messed up, he even said he hadn't read the books. my bad I'll redact it. Honestly, I can't remember his fate based on the books so really I'm not even positive what happens.. nothing spoiled! I promise! (Good thing I didn't go into detail regarding other things like I almost did - I almost went on a rant frenzy but held back) sorry about that!

I pictured Syrio as more of skinny mystical figure. sort of tall, thin, and flamboyant. definitely not as a regular looking guy.. he's from a different world really.. (figuratively speaking)

Hehe, I got it. Put it back to 0.

As for the character dying... it seemed very obvious from the following throne room scene that the last guy he was fighting was quite fine, I just really liked the character so it made me all

The Series might come off different than the books in that respect, hope so. The nobility in the books are mostly wankers. Even when Martin tries to plug humanity and empathy into them, they still turn around and slice up common folk at will. I'm guessing that we're supposed to chalk that up to the brutality of the times like it's commonplace. It does wear you out after awhile though.

I think its amusing how analogousness it is to modern life , vast majority of people pore an insignificant getting fucked over and feeling full effect of the law and arbatrerry rulings of the rich , where as the rich live in comfort worrying about petty shit instead of having to work hard to simply get food and keep warm.
