actually, sod it. i was going to explain why you're wrong and why natural selection happens ALL THE TIME but I just can't be arsed. There's no reasoning with you lot, so I won't waste the effort.

Improbable does not mean impossible. Amazing things happen, especially given enough time.

Mutations occur randomly, but natural selection is in effect an intelligent - NOT random - process that sifts up useful mutations and sifts down non-useful mutations. Maybe 90% of people misunderstand what "random" means in evolution.

Natural selection is not random because it is sorting genes according to a consistent principle (which genes are reproduced more frequently).

Saying it's in effect an intelligent system means that it sorts data in a way that solves problems.

The social nature of our minds sometimes gives us a tendency to anthropomorphize naturally occuring systems as "having a will" etc.

"Natural selection" by definition "selects" genes "naturally" (as explained above), so if you say it selects genes because a god put his finger there you're not talking about "natural selection".

I don't know if you're a Muslim, a follower of Hindu gods, or whatever, but simply stating a phenomenon is caused by Vishnu is not a useful explanation.

Science created the modern world of computers and medicine because it doesn't default to those kinds of conversation-stoppers.
