Brother Ali freestyles on Sway

How long before you realize who he's dissing?

Okay, so I had to go to the original video and check the comments to see who he was dissing. I don't follow hip hop/rap and the like, but thanks to his one hit that I know of (I'd guess he's had more but the one made it to the public at large's attention), I know who he's talking about. So what's the nature of the dis then? That he isn't giving proper credit to his history and influences?

I didn't want to give away who he's talking about since I don't think there's a spoiler tag to hide text. The Sway guy catches on about the 45 second mark it looks like, though he might have got an idea around 41 since his smile goes to consideration then the big smile at 45... I'd guess experience with the form makes it easier to catch on.

I think there's a lot of criticism of 'that artist' for various reasons, and I've seen a lot of underground rappers call him out for variously A) not being a good rapper, B) offering watered down social criticism that makes white middle class feel societally responsible, and C) for being very successful without giving any cred to his influences and predecessors.

I don't really care too much about that though - I just love how brother Ali manages to diss him while never mentioning his name... but rhyming his name in nearly every line.
