Blood Diamonds

I saw the film Blood Diamond not too long ago, I won't spoil it for you or anything but if you have yet to watch, I highly recommend it. As just a normal dude, watching Blood Diamond blew my mind in regards to diamonds, I have bought a diamond before and it was bloody expensive but I had no idea I was contributing to such a unethical trade.

Anyway, after watching that movie it blew my mind how much these Africans Idolize rappers, even in this short documentary about Sierra Leone you can see 2pac posters in the rooms of the poor miners. Now whenever I stumble upon rap videos and I see them sporting their bling, I shake my head. I can only wonder, if they have any idea.

no offense, jeff, because i have been visiting taytv for almost a year now and i know that you think about and are aware of things that most people happily gloss over, but i am astounded that you would not know about this. this movie is telling a story that is far removed from the front pages, if it was ever there to begin with. i'm not trying to tout my own knowledge (though i was aware of blood diamonds years ago) but rather am expressing my astonishment at the ability of people in rich, western nations to be willfully ignorant of the consequences of their actions. some call it liberal, white guilt, but i call it a conscience when you adjust your own life in order to better serve the less fortunate.

anyway, thanks for the work and the clip. it got me to watch the movie which was quite excellent. hope the move to videosift works out well.

Hey aaronfr, thanks for the comment. No offense taken but I can't help but to be honest when I say I didn't know much about the diamond trade before watching this film. I knew what the film was about and I knew that there was some shady business in regards to diamonds, but I never knew the full story about diamonds. But naturally as a good taytver I spend a good few hours perusing the web learning and bookmarking.

"i call it a conscience when you adjust your own life in order to better serve the less fortunate."

I like the sound of that.
