Begotten (1990 Experimental Horror Film)

Begotten is a 1990 American experimental horror film, written, produced and directed by E. Elias Merhige.
The film deals with the story of Genesis, re-imagining it.

God disembowels himself ultimately killing himself. A woman Mother Earth rises from the disemboweled God, impregnates herself with his semen, wanders a barren landscape giving birth to a fully grown convulsing man "Jesus", the man finds a group of nomads who seize him by his umbilical cord. Jesus vomits organic gifts to appease the nomads but they eventually kill him, Mother Earth ressurects him but she is raped by the nomads and dismembered, Jesus mourns over the body, gut he is seized again and dismembered. The nomads bury the parts which grows into a lush garden.

Symbolizes a crazy version of Genesis story but with mans destruction of mother earth and Christ the first time then destroying "religion" by his dismemberment the second time...

Crazy visuals that took long time to create quote:
"The look is described in the trailer as "a Rorschach test for the eye". Merhige said that for each minute of original film, it took up to 10 hours to rephotograph it for the look desired."
