At Risk of Rape? Why Not Carry a Firearm?

Women shouldn't have to protect themselves. Guns should never be the answer...

The fuck is up with the democratic strategist? She jumped to everyone being required to hold a firearm?

Train people not to rape? That implies that whoever raped her was trained to rape? I don't get it.

That's like saying if we tell everyone not to rob people they just won't rob people?

The real world is unfair/violent at times. We will never achieve Utopia. A woman should have the tools (be it a gun or otherwise) to defend herself if the need arises. Its far better to have something you don't need than to need something you don't have.

I am not saying that is the only solution. We should "attack" the issue from both sides by trying to prevent violence in the first place.

If my better half decided to train herself to properly use a firearm and carry it around I would support that decision. Funny enough she is learning Tae Kwon Do in case "push comes to shove."

Didn't your grandmother say "never say never?" For you to decide for everyone else that guns are never the answer is against their freedom. Perhaps guns should never be the answer for YOU specifically but don't take away the possibility of your neighbor to have a gun to protect herself from rape if thats what she chooses to do.

As Abraham Lincoln said - Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither

"As Abraham Lincoln said - Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither."

It was actually Benjamin Franklin who originated this quote. Of course, who said it matters not to its relevance.

You say; "Train people not to rape? That implies that whoever raped her was trained to rape? I don't get it."

I was going to get into semantics to help you "get it." Suffice it to say; Try understanding the sub text of a statement, maybe then you will understand the relevant points. Not everything is meant literally...

Please explain these subtexts - then it will all be in the open for everyone to understand.

"the odds are, that if you had had a gun, that he would have been able to get that from you and possibly use it against you".

Firstly, what odds? Study please.

Secondly, if she has it out and is using it - i.e. she is firing the gun and bullets are hitting her assailant - then I doubt he's going to be able to ninja his way out of the bullet holes leaking his life blood out of his body and/or disabling his central nervous system, wrestle the gun off of her, then shoot her with it.

Darkhandsays...

I think I get the subtext but it's still factually incorrect.

I mean if you ask everyone if they want to be robbed 100% of people will say no I don't want to be robbed. So we all know robbing is BAD. But robberies still happen.

It's the same thing for rape, I've never met anyone that wanted to be raped. Yet it still happens. So everyone knows rape is wrong, but they still do it anyway.

I love your and this demostrat's optimism for humanity but some people ARE beyond salvation.
