The Great Porn Experiment: TEDxGlasgow, Gary Wilson

@gwiz665 My point isn't that porn is bad and people who view it should feel bad about it. I really do have no issue with respectful porn in moderation. My issue is that if you do a search for porn these days, or go to youporn or anything like that, then 90% of the top stuff is just so derogatory towards women. Women gagging on dicks to the point of almost throwing up, women having their mouths pulled open, women drinking cum from glasses, bukakke, being held down and viscously rammed... this seems to be the norm now. The norm seems to be to treat women as objects. And damn those women better have big fake tits, a bald vagina, and be fine with ass to mouth.

My issue is that the porn is 'just there' now, and for single people, it'll get used a lot, and it DOES start shaping their tastes and expectations in regards to sex. The fact that sites like this even have a need to exist, shows that porn is shaping people's attitudes towards sex and women far more than it should be.

My wife and I do actually still occasionally watch porn together, carefully selected stuff that is not degrading, but just shows couples seemingly actually enjoying sex together. And as an occasional thing, it's great.

Trying to teach kids that porn is just movies and not real is just the same as movies really. Until their old enough to really process the difference between reality and make believe, until they get those critical thinking abilities, it doesn't matter how much you tell them that something isn't real. If they see it, it will affect them. So yes, I will definitely be teaching them about how the stuff in porn should never be looked on as a way to treat women (or be treated for my daughter), but I don't want them even seeing it until they're much older and can actually process it properly anyway.

Over sexualisation of our kids is a huge problem now. 3 year old girls being given high heel shoes for birthdays (as our daughter was, and we've promptly put them deep in the dress up basket), having 'role models' like Katy 'spit' Perry informing their self view. It's shit, and is not letting kids just be kids. And too many parents we see just go along with it. Let their 3 year olds dance and sing along to music videos showing women being treated as sex objects, and little more.

What this talk shows is that there is a physical effect of watching porn as much as people do now. You can put it down to weak will power, but when it's there at a click, whenever you want it, it's a problem. And it really is changing how people have sex. I've watched numerous talks where porn tropes like cumming on the woman's face, or ass to mouth, or any number of those things that only really make sense in the world of porn, are becoming things which men and women think are expected of them, or are the 'normal' way to have sex. That's a problem, because it's taking the focus away from two people getting hugely turned on and having great sex and being more like sex that looks good when being watched by someone else.

Enjoying a Double Rainbow Naturegasm

I read this title as "Double Rainbow Penetration" as it scrolled up the screen.

On Porn and Other Matters (Sift Talk Post)

I like overcast's descriptions:

- Graphic depictions of human masturbation are not allowed.
- Graphic depictions of human sexual intercourse are not allowed.
- Frontal nudity should be limited to comedic, artistic or educational context.

And I am fully on the side of the sift being very strict with this. Yes you can have nudity (National Geographic and educational videos etc.), you can even have sex (The internal view of people having sex comes to mind), but I think it should be a case of... put forward those guidelines, but also it has to come down to a personal decision in some cases, and it's your decision is final, and if you don't like it then go to youporn.

I have no issues with porn per se, I DO have huge issues with the trend of mainstream porn at the moment to degrade women to a huge degree and completely forget the erotic side of sex. So I am completely with you on that front Dag... and, as you say, there are plenty of places to find porn on the web if you want it, so why does it need to be here? I have this site open at work, and so would rather not have to explain some thumbnail on the front page if it's open when my boss comes around.

And trying to suggest that the video in question was ok because a) It wasn't degrading, and b) It was cut such that it was supposed to be funny is missing the point. This is not about whether or not we're prudish, it's merely drawing a line in the sand as to what should go on this site, and a video of women masturbating, and showing the full act, can clearly be blocked for stepping over that line.

Although clearing youporn from my history always worked perfectly for me , I did regret having a million bookmarks (which I never seem to clean up) showing up 1st, 2nd, 3rd &c until I’d typed in almost the whole address. E.g., the very cool trip I had to cancel last month because of a family emergency (which trip I don’t want to delete from my bookmarks, because they still have my E500 deposit) popped up every time I typed in anything because of its zillion silly bylines. Which is a little frustrating.

So, yes this DOES WORK and I although cannot say that it solved all my problems, I am grateful to RS for making my interwebs surfing hours of the day, aka most of the day, less frustrating.

Pornography Myths (Femme Talk Post)

Farhad2000 says...

I agree that having an orgasm is another level, but that is natural as well as I mentioned earlier our minds are entirely wired to derive alot of pleasure form the act of sex.

With regards to whacking off to urns to YouPorn, that is simply an evolution of mediums, the Kamasutra was written several thousands of years ago, alot of Indian temples are covered with scandalous carvings, there lots of porn illustrations from the 1700s and 1800s, scandalous literature was also rather common in France and Europe, also I think you should consider that during Grecian times we also had state sanctioned brothels, orgies were also quite common, a man could have any woman or boy as a right via force. Almost every perverted Roman emperor from Nero to Caligula indulged in far greater sexual excesses then anyone does in our time.

Any new medium will also be used to transmit this most basic act of man, I believe that when we have VR, sexual stimulations will be the first and most popular application.

My whole point is that a frank examination of humanity would leave no doubt in the fact that we are in many ways sexually repressed, this is something that has been dealt over the last few decades, but still we have alot of hang ups about sex. I remember a conversation I had with a strict Muslim, I asked him why would God would make sex so pleasurable if it was so inherently dirty? He couldn't really provide an answer.

I believe the more you push something out of society and marginalize it, the more seductive it becomes for the next generation because it's restricted or wrong. I grew in the 80s with D.A.R.E. and all those "Winners Don't Use Drugs" bullshit on my SNES games, you know whats the first thing I tried? But then I realized that the mystique of this was all that really attracted me, something i have seen with alot of friends of mine from Netherlands, drug use and availability is such a given they don't really care about it.

The same applies to sex and it's repression. My parents are doctors so they never really were squeamish about explaining birth and sex, they didn't even have to, all the medical books around the house and watching documentaries and nature programs already explained it all anyway. So when I got online and found porn it wasn't really surprising at all. It was a given. I didn't have any hang ups about it. I didn't go mental over it, it wasn't a hang up, I didn't walk around stalking girls and trying to rape them.

I live in a strict sexually repressed society now, and I can see it's tolls, people are so hanged up about sex here yet all watch it through proxies and satellite channels. They can't approach women so generally you hear of boys kidnapping other boys and raping them, or having sex with their maids who are forced into it. But most of all they fly to Dubai or Bahrain and hire hookers. Now who is at fault here? Is it the porn? Or is it the repression of sex in general in society?

I find the same parallels in the whole anti-Gay and pro-morality crap the Republican party has been pushing. Eventually we find out that alot of them are gays, alot of them made moves at pages, some tapped in airports for gay sex. It was hilarious.

So is pornography in society that bad?

You make some good points- and you are right that anything can become habituated, but an orgasm (let's be honest about what we're talking about here) is a shade different in the potential for reinforcement than say, biting your nails.

Also, I understand that erotic art has always been a part of human culture - but did people really whack off to naughty Grecian urns? How does that compare with the fare on YouPorn?
