This Man is a Genius

newtboy says...

Unless you count the sift I’ve never been on any social media platforms at all, but I’ve also never owned a cell phone. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been the only person in a crowded room not glued to a tiny screen.
I’m a weirdo, and I like it that way.

I hope you’re wrong and the sift endures and thrives again by itself for its (as far as I know) unique curation of YouTube (and other site’s) videos, but that will take more than a handful of users posting. If it merges with a big chat site it’s going to become a different, more impersonal animal, maybe an animal no one likes.

I took a break from social media a few years ago. Life's much simpler now!

Videosift needs to integrate with a popular chat platform - or several. Discord, Reddit, something like that. They all have their downsides, but if we want to keep Videosift alive, we've got to plug into the mainstream.

Thank sweet zombie Jebus you were wrong on all counts with your predictions.

I'm usually the biggest cynic in the room, so I couldn't exactly deny your theory, but I am incredibly glad civil adults did get the reigns of the country back, and that America did end up deciding black lives do matter, at least a little bit when our noses are rubbed in our murderous racism.

How's the visa fight going? Does getting vaccinated make a difference? Good luck over there....I've never had any desire to visit France, but I'm a weirdo. My perfect vacation is a secluded house on a secluded warm beach in the middle of nowhere and seeing only family all week....I'm not into culture or large groups of people. Give me unspoiled unpopulated nature instead please. Last January we did exactly that outside Mahajual, S Mexico. It was heaven for me except when we went to town.

Sorry Newt, but this'll just be added to the pile of "who cares?"

This is the country that watches its children get machine-gunned in their schools and just shrugs. This is the country that poisoned its own population with opioids and just shrugged. This is the country that allowed corporations to take over the entire power structure of the nation and just shrugged. No one cares. No. One. Cares.

You cannot overcome the wall of indifference and entitlement no matter how many impassioned pleas or elegant speeches you make.

Your heart's in the right place, but this is Bob Knight's country now and you will never get it back. And the people who're like Bob Knight? Yeah, they really don't give a shit about dead niggers.

As soon as I get my work visa for France finalized, I am out of here.

Tom Cruise and His Broken Ankle on The Graham Norton Show

newtboy jokingly says...

I'm 47....pay me $20 million and I'm all over it. I'll fail miserably, but I'm in.

I think he's weirdo, but he has one hell of a work ethic, and I like his movies.

Tom Cruise is Fifty Fucking Five.

I'm going to turn 45 in March and I wouldn't dream of doing a stunt like that.

Are You Normal?

eric3579 says...

I hate the word normal. He uses seemingly meaning more than the average, then joked and said weirdo to someone not 'normal'. Normal is a tricky word.

Bill Maher - Milo Yiannopoulos Interview

Imagoamin says...

Man, fuck Maher after that. Calling trans women using the bathroom "weirdos peeing", backing Milo's attack and misgendering of that trans student, and Maher lavishing in the praise of his hatred of Islam from a white nationalist troll.

Maher just planted a massive flag in the "smarmy bigot of the left"ground.

Wilmore was great, at least.

The Big Short - "Jenga"

Mikus_Aurelius says...

My wife and I finally got around to watching this last night, or rather we tried. We made it just past this scene and gave up. The weirdo character parts were pretty entertaining, but half the movie was gimmicky and patronizing exposition of things that anyone who was reading the news already knew.

Was it supposed to be ironic? Either way we just couldn't take anymore.

Finest Girl (F me like Bin Laden)-Popstar-Lonely Island

Oh no, I'm not feeling guilt or shame, but thanks for the concern. ;-)

I'm saying that inflicting guilt and shame are the obvious intents of your posts, even if not intentionally. You are trying to 'educate' people so they know to feel guilty or ashamed of how they live/eat, in the hope that that guilt/shame will get them to stop eating meat.
I think (I hope) that people who've never thought about the fact that meat is an animal are few and far between, and that most people make an informed choice. I've gone farther in that sense than most since my family raised many types of meat, humanely, and even butchered our own when I was young, but I give people the benefit of a doubt that they aren't just eating meat and not connecting it with an animal. I'm sure a few are, but I think not many.

I find it insulting to imply that people haven't thought it through...but I know I'm a weirdo so perhaps I'm the only one insulted and I should just shut up. ;-)

Why DOES the worm talk like a lamb? ;-)

If you're feeling guilt and shame about something you've done, then that implies you know that it's wrong
But in my above statements I'm acknowledging that most people aren't even aware of the implications of their actions. They can't feel guilty or ashamed if they don't know what they are doing is wrong. They've always just bought a nice bit of juicy meat at the store for their entire lives, and they've never seen anyone get hurt, the thought hasn't even occurred to most people. They're just doing what they've always done.

That's why I'm pointing it out, not to be a jerk, but to plant the seed, and people will hopefully consciously think about the idea that something had to be killed. I'm hoping to trigger their Lisa Simpson moment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLoV9xS9rxk

Another Tree Felling Fail

Payback says...

When you tie that far up in the air, the net force is pulling the truck's ass end up in the air, losing traction. Then, adding on the fact the numbnuts didn't have the front diff engaged (assuming he's not one of those weirdos who puts a lift kit on a 2WD), the truck was there for no reason whatsoever.

Should have tied off a pulley to one of those trees to the right and brought the truck directly at the camera.

The Simpsons - YOU'RE NEXT

dannym3141 says...

There wasn't a rape in the film, was there? It's not like they wrote a rape scene out of it and sacrificed their art out of a misguided misogynistic protectiveness.

I'm guessing that you didn't see the film and you just expected the rape when she was dragged to the floor, and felt they pulled the punch to protect female sensibilities. But if you put a rape in there, far more people are going to ask what kind of sick weirdo shoehorns rape into something unrelated, apropos of nothing. No one is going to give a person credit for their dedication to equality in that example.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here and suggest that it whiffs slightly of misandry to expect three male murderers to be also be rapists.

Lawdeedaw said:

It's funny our culture of ultra violence, but raping Marge is out of the question. Lol. Not that I would watch it if it had it in it, but that is the double standard we have.

Oh my god

bareboards2 says...

I, too, thought the camera was in position to catch the "weirdo" coming out. Not looking at the camera because it was the source of shaming?

We don't know.

But what is quite wonderful is that both points of view were immediately offered, none with a shaming aspect.

Progress!
