Is California Becoming A Police State?
When the police start going after the the bad apples (cops) there are then maybe you can get people to trust cops. Of course it won't happen because cops are all part of the same gang. Always protecting each other regardless of the evil that's done by your "brothers". If you're a cop and turn the other way when the bad ones abuse their power or you don't vigilantly pursue eradicating the bad ones then you're just as much a part of the problem as they are. I will never trust any police because my past experiences tells me police are not to be trusted. The problem is cops all look the same and i have no way of knowing which ones i can trust. Show me where good cops are protecting me from the bad ones - they aren't. Also the judicial system is set up to protect the bad cops because the potential money they can cost a city due to lawsuits is enormous. So many cops go on abusing their power because they can and no one is willing to do anything about it.
Clean up your own house first before complaining about not being appreciated.
I really wish we were appreciated like firemen or military but I know we never will be. Law enforcement only show up when things have gone bad to worse. Nobody ever wants to go to jail. Try having a job where everyone hates you no matter what good you do. Yet we still go to work and put our lives on the line everyday (many of us die each year) so people can sit at home or in there office cubicle and judge videos of our actions. So please try to remember we are not all bad.
SHUT UP - Tales of Mere Existence
What I have done in some cases is shown that I was pissed when they interrupted, usually vocally, which always has the opposite effect; they think I'm rude, (passive-) aggressive and irritating. Especially so if it's a discussion within a group of people.
I need a 3rd party, conversation moderator to shield me from blow-back when being vigilant.
TYT - 5 Shot at "Gun Appreciation Day" Celebrations
Constant vigilance? Common sense? You know you're talking about humans, right?
I think most accidents happen when idiots with guns get complacent. I think it's perfectly possible to own and handle a gun with no accidents, but it DOES require constant vigilance, as you said, they are dangerous. It's designed to kill after all, and you have to treat it that way with simple common sense. It's when you get idiot, entitled gun nuts that organize things like "Gun Appreciation Days". Of course someone was going to get shot at this.
This is why the US needs strict regulations and restrictions (not a ban), and prevent these idiots from owning guns and making sure people that do own them are qualified to do so.

"you'll get judged by the actions of the minority that don't practice up to date strict gun safety"
Bullshit. Guns. Are. Dangerous. Period. Yes, I said it. And yes, they are more dangerous if you handle them recklessly, of course, but they are dangerous anyway, thats the whole point. Most gun accidents happens to people who normally DO practice strict gun safety, its just that people make fucking mistakes. ALL THE TIME. Thats the thing. You can, and will, also make mistakes with knifes, hammers and axes, but that probably wont instantly kill you, or someone 50 meters away from you. A gun might. Because they are fucking dangerous.

great parenting caught on camera once again. AND judging by the size of that 3 year old, i would say the terrible parenting doesn't stop there.
You make a massive assumption. Anyone who has/had kids, knows that being vigilant 100% of the time is nigh on impossible. Yes, there are MANY examples of bad parenting but, as I said, this isn't necessarily one of them.
Teen: NYPD Paid Me To Bait Innocent Muslims
Ok, I'm sure to be attacked, but here's my take on it. We are ALL under surveillance in some shape or form? The police could not operate without public information. We are all encouraged to be vigilant and report our suspicions. The incitement part of this report is the only thing the police did wrong. Our enemies hide behind the very constitution they wish to destroy. Are Christians, Jews,or any other religion, carrying out beheadings, car bombings, or murdering authors and cartoonists, simply for "offending" their religion? Is there any other religion that has called for Jihad, Sharia, and death to "infidels?" I think it is extremely naive, and dangerous, to say; "we have to wait until they do something before acting." A group of Muslims are on trial in England. The carnage they planned was stopped before it happened. How do you suppose the intelligence service knew about it? Big Brother IS watching and, for my part, if they use surveillance, bugging, computer hacking etc, to prevent the atrocities we have all sadly witnessed, then I'm afraid, it is a necessary evil. Oh, and btw, was it constitutional to lock up Japanese Americans during WW2? Weren't they, also, innocent until proven guilty? of course they were, but who then would have taken the chance?
Suspect Dies In Police Car After Cops Ignore Calls For Help
>> ^VoodooV:
I hate to say it, but Cenk summed it up pretty good. He can see it both ways. How many times have cops had to put up with bullshit stall tactics, it's impossible not to become jaded on this stuff.
still yeah, they could have driven him to the hospital and he could have been saved. If someone was faking it, a doc or a nurse could see that right away.
homicide though? nah. At best, it was negligence or just a plain ole accident. The biggest crime I see here is the coverup.
Negligence is better than homicide? I don't see it, either way the guy is still dead. Look I get being jaded is something that happens, it's happened to me plenty. I still have to go do my job though, what else am I gonna do? He's not going to escape, I don't have anything better to do, he's my suspect, he's important whether he's guilty or not guilty.
The point is do your job, just like the cops in the Casey Anthony case that got a call from someone who claimed to have found the body of a baby. I don't care that you don't believe him, you have something better to do? Take a drive and INVESTIGATE! Care about your fucking job.
Here's a story of another situation. I worked at Raging Waters once, and we were shown a video to scare us into being vigilant. A little girl went over to a lifeguard at a local pool and told him that there was a small boy at the bottom of the pool. The lifeguard told her that it was nothing more than a shadow that was always there. The little girl decided to go get her parents, so she walked home. They walked back and brought their video camera. When they got there they were just pulling a small boy out of the pool who had been under for maybe 10 mins. His stomach was bulging with water, his last seconds were probably terrifying. I watched that water very carefully all summer, because that wasn't going to happen while I was around.
Amazing Mind Reader Reveals his Gift
be scared, be very scared. there are boogymen everywhere. support internet censorship...err.i mean "security".
and if someone hacks your bank account that quickly, more than likely there are more problems than just your vigilance.
plus i'm not impressed that someone can find pics of me on facebook
Hula Cam at Burning Man 2012
Interesting. Burning Man are supposed to be pretty vigilant in keeping branding outside the city limits. I wonder if they'll come down on this viral marketing?
They kicked a champagne company right in the nuts recently for trying to use them in their marketing...
Usain Bolt vs. 116 Years of Olympic Sprinters
Nobody has brought up doping yet. I have absolutely no idea how vast it's influence is or how little it may be sought after due to the literal pride of the athletes themselves may be influencing these decisions among their own community (and I do think that the athletes and how they handle those that have done it, might do it, and haven't yet but are just hearing about the possibilities of doping; how they talk and act to stop it when they can amongst themselves and their community is what fights it the best).
I know some of the athletes have been suspended up to four years, but are still allowed to play again. I don't know if it matters what they were doing (as anabolic steroids and its effects will be lifelong if you keep up your routine) as some doping schemes are quick fixes like someone trying to use adrenaline. I mean do they check for that type of thing, a neurotransmitter carrier drug stuck in something like a false tooth; you bite down and in 5-10 seconds your adrenaline shoots forward for 30 seconds... I guess I should look and see how far they've taken this process; I know they are very vigilant, as much as possible. But, I really don't know were the holes are and how big they possibly are.
Training has most defiantly given athletes a superb edge. Not only do they run and work out, but they WATCH themselves run and can see what they are doing run. They just compare it to the best and modify themselves in that fashion gaining seconds, upon seconds. Eventually they learn to add a new twist and soon people are watching HIM or HER for inspiration to win a medal.
I know many athletes get their medals the old-fashioned hard way, proudly and resolute, for their country. It just makes me wonder how far doping has truly influenced the athletes and what areas of their training and structure actually test them correctly with the possibility that there may always be an area, with many athletes all doping (they are tested at the Pre-Olympic qualifiers, The Olympics, but then a shady organization "passes" them all at their home training camp). I hope that it never reaches that scale, but I always have problems when there are some Olympic coaches that have had about six athletes under them, three of them have been caught doping and three are OK--kind of disconcerting...
-edit
I forgot one point I was going to make. You can obviously see from the info-graphic that even training and in absolutely NO WAY can doping account for the 8 year old to the rest of the teenage field of sprinters. It shows to me that perhaps a very long change in diet stopping any malnutrition, FAR better medical care (also limiting disease to a LARGE extent) has lead to a BETTER populace, even genetically which just due to this little clip you could make the case, to some degree. Then you have some of the intangibles like better shoes, better surfaces to run on, and other like changes in our lives that were mentioned and the ones you can think about that weren't. Then you find the cream of the crop athletes, give them superb training, and I truly do think you can see why we have increased those three seconds.
I just merely hope doping isn't behind many victories. I actually wouldn't care if it was someone genetically modified--not grotesquely (to go out of your way to destroy the human form is up to you, but as scientists I don't think we should aim for that--we should aim within that, I also have a feeling that someone grotesque may not be exactly happily received at The Olympics...), just suited to run faster with muscles that are far more dense than usual. As long as genetic changes like this eventually come to almost all of us, changes that enrich and make our lives better (not The Hulk™).
Dude in a Ferrari Runs Over Cops Foot
I don't know. I'm confused at what happened here. Was he in a valet zone?
When he goes to get in his car he looks right at the cop says something. The cop never looks up but seems to say something. He then gets in his car and turns it on. Cop ignores engine sound, cop ignores moving car.
Guy is an idiot for not just taking the ticket. Cop is an idiot for letting his foot get runover. No ticket you can issue is worth getting your foot runover.
There are tools who drive Ferraris and tools who have a beat up Ford Taurus etc...
All that said traffic cops are jerks out on a mission to drum up revenue. I've rarely been the victim (crazy vigilant about it) but see all kinds of people get tickets in Chicago (or towed) that are VERY bad calls by the cops.
Medieval Warm Period - Fact vs Fiction
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/30/opinion/the-conversion-of-a-climate-change-skeptic.html?_r=2&pagewanted=all
Speaking of, here is a new modeling based in a statistical model instead of climate models directly. They concluded that warming is indeed happening, perhaps not as large as other models though. They even attribute the last 250 years of warming as man made, even as they were previous warming skeptics. Ironically, climate and weather are some of the hardest things model and yet, most important for continued life on this planet. With more and more studies showing CO2 being a large issue, it is a cry that is quickly becoming hard for the skeptic to ignore.
On that note, did you know that without the atmosphere, the earth would be −18°C? The Greenhouse effect keeps us alive, but as we can see with Venus, it can also make us dead. But there are about 8123918237912837 *citation needed* things that effect the weather/climate as well, so always best to be vigillant in that area.
