Obama at Saddleback Church - Pro-Choice, Not Pro-Abortion

BillOreilly says...

>> ^dag:
Bill, your simplistic view of humanity is almost absurd. Every fiber of a human being is meant for procreation, not everyone has the will to resist that urge though we try very hard.
To say that it's a woman's decision to "keep her pants on" is ridiculously naive and fairly misogynistic.
You belong in the 50s neo-victorian era. Your views would be right at home. Pass the Brill cream.
There, I feel better. Thanks for being around Bill'O - you're like the wingnut practice sparring partner of the Sift. Now to head over to MichelleMalkin's site.

Every fiber, eh? So our artistic side, our religious side, our scientific side, they don't mean squat, eh?

And isn't it a woman's choice to keep her pants on? If not, who's is it? The government's? Barack Obama would like you to think so, I'm sure...

Look, all you LiberalSift regulars can debate this issue till the cows come home, but you all know you can't compete with my superior wit and reasoning, so let's just call it a win for me and leave it at that.

Hey.. the two most popular CFR candidates of the Democratic party had to meet up to discuss the next strategy. Some things the public is just better not involved in. They couldn't handle or accept it anyway.

Seriously? I'm as much of a conspiracy nut as anyone else here (in fact, I just today passed the CFR clubhouse on 68th and Park here in the city and felt the cold chill of evil--it's totally unmarked and blends into the scenery like a Victorian secret passage), but come on. Hell fucking yeah they should be involved in meetings to discuss the next strategy; who gives a fuck whether you like it or not, that's how politics--both good and bad politics--are done. It's all about making people happy in order to keep them subdued; the way this guy makes me happy is fine with me, even if it involves a smoky, locked back room (wow, did I just type that?).

I respectfully disagree. I have read that Joseph Smith had multiple wives secretly before the fledgeling church even knew about it.

Church doctrine was changed to fit Joseph Smith's lifestyle. And there was extreme pressure on government in Utah to submit to US law in Salt Lake City - or suffer the consequences.

These were Victorian times - so a whiff of impropriety could bring down a lot of scorn from civil society.

I don't think polygamy should be illegal- but then I think you should be able to marry your cat.

Traditional Values satire

Smugglarn says...

My only issue with this is the faulty logic of the people often ridiculing Victorian traditions* not recognising the inane traditions of the cultures they find "exotic" (in a very colonial manner).

So it's OK for a Sikh to wear a turban or a Muslim woman to wear a burka but the Amish are the ones that's nuts. It just doesn't make sense.

Coming from the most secularised country in the world (Sweden) where forced marriages are accepted (for those adorable minorities) this complacency bothers me to no end.

Is funny how the (true sadly) champion of democratie seems to have so many lackness.

-Dangerously ever growing fundementalism
-Economical system who act like a second government
-Warlike mentality

It make wonder if North America (because Canada also develop the same lackness) have really evolve since the 19th century.

The sadest is than european nation seem nearly utopic compared to us, a fact nearly ironical knowing than the north american democratical weakness was the one of victorian europe in the origine.

Extraordinary Breastfeeding - How Old Is Too Old?

For these kind of human traits - I always try to imagine what would be *natural* without any cultural or societal influence for humans. If there was no stigma or shame attached, would humans breastfeed to a much later age? I think the answer is yes.

In primal societies - a woman would be almost constantly lactating, providing nutrition for whoever needed it in her brood - an artificial age limit would just not be in the picture. If a 12 year old kid was sick, going back on the breast might be the only medicine available.

It's amazing - woman carry containers of repenlenishing high-energy food on their chest! What an incredible adaption.

I know for a fact that in New Guinea a woman may breastfeed a runt piglet if the sow does not have enough nipples.

What I'm saying is - try to step out of your Victorian influenced Western mindset of "what's right" and view breastfeeding as feeding, not sexual peversion - no matter what the age or situation.

No - he lives in a small Victorian semi. Masks all over the place - several from his days at Jim Henson's workshop. At one point he was interested in using me as a model - no lies - but I couldn't really face the thought of a 20ft tall replica of my head hanging on the wall of a gallery!

The Prestige (trailer)

pyrex says...

The Prestige is an Academy Award-nominated 2006 period film directed by Christopher Nolan, adapted from Christopher Priest's award-winning 1995 novel of the same name. This steampunk film depicts the rivalry of Robert Angier and Alfred Borden, two Victorian era stage magicians in late 19th- and early 20th-century London. Angier blames Borden for a tragic accident, and a competitive one-upmanship ensues, in which both magicians, obsessed with creating the best stage illusion, stop at nothing to uncover the secret of each other's acts, with deadly results.

Last Exile (awesome anime)

Farhad2000 says...

Last Exile is a steampunk anime series produced in 2003 and created by Gonzo Digimation.

The story revolves around Claus Valca and Lavie Head, a young courier pilot and his navigator, and their adventures in the floating world of Prester. In this romantic sky world based on stylized Victorian fashion and society, two countries, Anatole and Dysis (sometimes phonetically rendered as Anatoray and Disith), are engaged in a long and bloody war under the supervision of the mysterious Guild. Claus and Lavie, piloting their vanship (a small wingless airplane-like machine) find themselves involved in a plot surrounding a mysterious little girl named Alvis Hamilton, whom they must deliver as "cargo" to the much-feared neutral battleship Silvana.

The animation features a combination of 2-D and 3-D CGI sequences; several key staff members such as the character designer Range Murata and Gonzo veteran Mahiro Maeda had previously worked on the production of Blue Submarine No. 6 which was done in a similar style. The series is also notable for having much of the text in English but written with Greek letters, with all numbers given in Roman numerals.

For me this is my second love after Trigun. Must be because of the Dunesque influence of Frank Herbert. The song is "Cloud Age Symphony" by Shuntaro Okino.

farhad:

that's really odd since, according to the book 'the great train robbery', in victorian times, when 'the french malady' was running rampant through england, the same belief about sex with a virgin curing syphilis was held then. according to the novel, young and youngish looking prostitutes would stitch themselves back up down there so as to be able to provide this valued service many times. not sure how true it was, it is a novel after all and a michael crichton novel at that, but that struck me as an odd coincidence when i read what you wrote.
