Burning Methane From Frozen Lake

newtboy says...

DrPawn-I understand the terrible state of American education, so it's likely you don't understand your own statements, and not surprising that you have nearly every fact wrong ("conservatives" like you and Bill O'Really have little or no use for facts, they much prefer "truthieness" where you say what you want and pretend it's fact). It's true, warming has happened in the past, possibly even the amount of warming likely to come from the change in composition of our atmosphere. The thing you ignore there is that, when this happened in the past, over 95% of all species, and over 99% of all biomass was extinguished. That would include people this time, I mention that because apparently people are all that matters in your eyes. Humans already exist in many places where they can't survive without technology, and the number of humans can't be sustained even with it. We are most likely one of the species that won't survive.
The arctic CAN'T survive a "little warming", it's already disapearing, and it takes more than a decade for polar bears to evolve into polar seals, (I know, I know, evolution is also a liberal lie, right?)so they are HOSED. Methane hydrate is melting, accelerating the rate of temperature change, and a little warming would accelerate this process exponentially.
I suppose you won't admit there's a problem until something like this happens, and then you'll find a way to blame Obama for it.

If only we could put these "nay sayers" on/in their own biosphere and let them kill themselves off without taking the rest of us with them. A man can dream, can't he?

i care not for the method, only for the results. i don't have anymore devotion to the mises school than i do to chocolate ice cream. i support their theory, like any other in science, because, from what i have seen, it best fits the empirical data, and consistently makes the best predictions.

the theory of gravity as postulated by newton was wrong . as of 2009, the human race still does not understand why or how gravity works.

In reply to this comment by Farhad2000:
Well I would say you are mistaken then, economics is a social science not science like physics.

The theory of gravity is absolute because it produces consistent results in accordance to the theory, in keeping with newtons laws of gravity. This is not the same case in economic theory, where new theories are constantly presented, refuted and reassembled because one theory does not always produce consistent predictable results when applied to different economies.

Apply BWF so widely makes just as much sense as saying cutting taxes right now will create stimulus in consumer spending. That is completely out of touch with current economic situation.

Look you are an acolyte of the Mises Insitute so you will agree with pretty much anything they say.

theories are judged not only by their absolute truthiness, but in their ability to make accurate predictions. gravity, for example, is not understood by a single person on this planet yet we gladly utilize newton's laws to make reasonable predictions. even if a theory is seen as accurate, it is often too unwieldy to use for macro examples (see quantum mechanics).

given that, i think it is reasonable to apply the BWF to large-scale action like the governmental stimulus -- even if its not "fully" correct, it makes very accurate predictions

Conservatives Blame Unions, CAFE Standards For Auto Collapse

NetRunner says...

Can't be that they haven't met the market's demands by focusing mostly pickups, SUV's, and luxury cars when the median wage was declining and the price of gas was increasing.

Doesn't help that you'd pretty much have to pay me to live with driving anything the "big three" makes that costs $20k or less, or gets 30mpg (do they have anything that even hits 30mpg right now?).

Sorry guys, but Unions and CAFE ain't what's making them die.

I suppose I'm happy; Republicans still haven't learned that the era of truthiness is on its way out.

Chris Matthews: Dems Shouldn't Have to Apologize for Winning

Sarah Palin Thinks the Media is Breaking the First Amendment

Matthews VAPORIZES McCain Sr. Campaign Advisor on Hardball

Krupo says...

>> ^honkeytonk73:
While he should drill the issue, and I for certain do not support McCain and Palin, it is being sensationalized a tad too greatly. There are other, much larger issues here which they could focus on.

I strongly disagree with this sentiment. What equates to an abuse and utter disregard of our constitution should absolutely be hollered about. The idea that no one (meaning the public at large) seems to give a shit that someone plans to intentionally act outside the confines of the their role according to the constitution is ridiculous.

True, but this is also awful:
