Jason vs. Skeletons - Jason & the Argonauts 1963

Dave Matthews Band - Crash Into Me

80's Flashback - Loverboy, Turn Me Loose

rougy says...

Back in High School I listened to music like this all of the time - Foreigner, Foghat, Boston, REO, etc. - once I got to college I got turned on to some New Wave music by a dorm mate, and I haven't been too keen on the former since.

There's a lot of music from the 80's that is sui generous to the era - Yazzoo, for instance - yet has a kind of timelessness to it.

Thanks for the memories.

Transformers Clip - Optimus Prime vs. Bonecrusher

karaidl says...

Michael Bay said in an interview even before the movie was released that The Island was supposed to be a popcorn movie, and it was. So was Bad Boys II. They're far from timeless classics like other action movies, such as Pulp Fiction, but they're good for the moment. That's all I care about from the Transformers movie. The only ground I expect it to break is CGI technology.

The Third Man - Final Scene

CrushBug says...

Because I am a lazy bastard, I just wish people would add in some references, explainations, and IMDB links and explain what I am seeing. "Perfect" and "Timeless" are great words to use for this, but so was that burp I had last night.

Another issue I want to raise to your attention: I've seen lots of preachers out here that come to the campus and insult every religion, race, gender, of any age by labeling them as sinners. Their disrespect and arrogance in 'saving' everyone from themselves is their argument in general. But more so for Muslims in the audience, their argument is this simple assertion: that Mohammed is a pedophile (referring to the consumation of marriage with Aisha when she was nine years old) and such a standard of morality cannot serve as a timeless role model of ethics/morality for future generations. As such, the teachings of Mohammed cannot be trusted and as a result the religion of Islam is not credible.

What is your take on this?

There has got to be more than this "that it was ok at the time, lots of people were doing it at the time" etc.... the prophet's behavior is supposed to be of pristine character that can be emulated in ALL societies, past and present.

Van Morrison and John Lee Hooker - Gloria

silvercord says...

From Wiki:

"Gloria is a rock song written by Van Morrison and originally recorded by Morrison's band Them in 1964 as the B-side of "Baby Please Don't Go", which reached #10 on the UK charts. It later reached #71 on the U.S. charts in 1966.

It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999.

The song quickly become a garage rock staple and a rock standard, part of many rock bands' repertoires. It is particularly memorable for its "G-L-O-R-I-A" chorus. It is very easy to play (three-chords) and thus is popular with those learning to play guitar. Humorist Dave Barry joked that, if you drop a guitar down a flight of stairs, it will play "Gloria" on its way to the bottom.

The timeless popularity of the song may be best explained in a review written by Bill Janovitz(All Music): "The beauty of the original is that Van Morrison needs only to speak-sing , in his Howlin' Wolf growl to convey his teenage lust. "Them" never varies from the three chords, utilizing only dynamic changes to heighten the tension."[1]

Them's version of the song is included in Van Morrison's 2007 compilation album, Van Morrison at the Movies - Soundtrack Hits.

The song continues to be played by thousands of bands from famous recording artists to unknown garage bands.

Six Feet Under ... Final Scene w/Claire in her car ... :(

rosspruden says...

This final 6 minutes is still the most moving final resolution of any TV series I've ever seen. The show is amazing, and love or hate the characters, they were very human and seeing each of them die was so perfectly appropriate for this show.

Thank you soooo much for posting this -- whenever I want to be reminded about the timelessness of our world, I need only watch this. Awesome.
