Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton - Can't Find My Way Home
There's something so smooth about lil' Stevie Winwood's voice!
Two brilliant musicians on the same stage - can't go wrong!
Chrome Speed vs Potato/Soundwaves/Lightning
YT:
These speed tests were filmed at actual web page rendering times. If you're interested in the technical details, read on!
Equipment used:
- Computer: MacBook Pro laptop with Windows installed
- Monitor - 24" Asus: We had to replace the standard fluorescent backlight with very large tungsten fixtures to funnel in more light to capture the screen. In addition, we flipped the monitor 180 degrees to eliminate a shadow from the driver board and set the system preferences on the computer to rotate 180 degrees. No special software was used in this process.
- 15Mbps Internet connection.
- Camera: Phantom v640 High Speed Camera at 1920 x 1080, films up to 2700 fps
"Why does allrecipes.com in the potato gun sequence appear at once, and not the text first and images second? And why does it appear to render from bottom of the screen to the top?"
Chrome sends the rendered page to the video card buffer all at once, which is why allrecipes.com appears at once, and not with the text first and images second. Chrome actually paints the page from top to bottom, but to eliminate a shadow from the driver board, we had to flip the monitor upside down and set the system preferences in Windows to rotate everything 180 degrees, resulting in the page appearing to render from bottom to top.
"Why does the top one third of the page appear first on the weather.com page load?"
Sometimes only half the buffer gets filled before the video card sends its buffer over to the LCD panel. This is because Chrome on Windows uses GDI to draw, which does not do v-sync.
"The screen wipes are so smooth - how was that achieved?"
The screen wipes up in a gradated wipe because LCD pixels take around 10ms to flip and gradually change color.
Sneaker Pimps - 6 Underground
I loved that song back in the 90's. It's really stood the test of (a bit of) time. So smooth.
Stunning virtual choir melds 185 voices via the net
<edit: Um... posted this in the wrong video. Sorry. Damn, inadvertently changing focus from the text box and then hitting the backspace key...>
This one is neat though. I'm surprised they managed to edit it together to sound so smooth, as though they were all using high-quality microphones.
Should We Bring back the Siftquisition? (redux) (User Poll by dag)
Correlation is not causation, as they say. It could be that things are peaceful because @BillOreilly, @CaptainPlanet420 and @choggie's evil personality were all banned. Not to mention, we've also kept some otherwise well(-enough) behaved sifters in line with suspensions; @quantumushroom, @blankfist and the always-villainous @schmawy come to mind.
SQs used to be way more lighthearted, too. Dag has not begun one with the ringing of the gong and donning of the hat and robes in quite a while. I don't understand why so many people have a hissy-fit over someone bringing potentially inappropriate actions to light.

I would like to say one more thing. And look, I'm not as active here these days as I once was, so someone please let me know if I'm mistaken. But it seems to me that the site has been refreshingly drama-free for the last couple of months. Does no one remember what it was like here (especially in the sift talk section of the site) during the height of siftquisition-era videosift? Constant drama and acrimony, fights, hurt feelings and the regular public spectacle of the siftquisitions themselves. I seem to recall that at least a few people left the site for good as a side-effect of the drama-heavy siftquisitions. Why would we want that back? Especially when it seems like (to me, at least) everything's been going so smoothly since siftquisitions were removed.

HUGE difference between a 12ga and a 5.56mm. The kick on a 5.56/.223 really isn't enough to hurt you. .30-30 or .30-'06 or a shotgun is a different story.
I knew a girl who was Air Force reserve, and quite the girly-girl really. She said she loved firing the M-16 it was so smooth and easy.
BREAKING NEWS US Airways Plane Crashes in Hudson River
things went as smooth as they did because they had an excellent captain on the plane, who apparently did absolutely every little thing right for the situation. i read one passenger report who thought they had landed on a runway because the water landing was so smooth. i think i also read that the captain is a former jet fighter pilot for the american airforce, so i bet he has some serious piloting skillz
no miracle, just one good guy keeping his head cold when it counts.
ILoveSketch- 3D sketch pad!
Ahhhh, it just looks so smooth and nice I wanna eat it like candy...
Take on Me: Literal Video Version
Bloody brilliant.
Big props for pulling off those high notes so smoothly.
James Carville eats Palin supporter, Michelle Bachman (R-Min
Carville is bald for the same reason vultures don't have feathers on their heads. When you constantly stick your head in crap, you don't want hair/feathers to give it something to stick to.
Carville is a professional turdpolisher and he's rather good at it. He's so smooth with his attack that none of *YOU* people even noticed that he's not arguing apples-to-apples. Congratulations on a successful smokescreen which compares the Democrat Presidential candidate to the person who will only become important if McCain dies or becomes otherwise incapacitated.
If you all want to compare Palin with someone, the correct counterpart is the liberal-holocaust-on-legs, Joe Biden.
Finally... Pics of Frankie (Plucky Tim)! (Blog Entry by Issykitty)

Elizabethan, Harhar! You've got a pretender to the crown, Queen Issy!
Seems well adjusted in a punk-ass kitty sorta way. So Timmy'll be living with Isobel? Does she play well with others?
Honestly, Isobel was very PISSED. She has always been indoors and an only kitty for four years, so I was anticipating a not-so-smooth transition for her. She is getting used to being in the same room with him (supervised, of course), but if I put Timmy on the floor near her, he scampers towards Issy (I think he thinks she'll nurse him or something), or he'll attack her tail, and she growls and runs off. It's funny to see a grown up kitty be intimidated by such a tiny kitten. We're hoping she will eventually accept him, but it may take months!
