Not the slinky i remember

Phooz says...

But that's how calling fake works, you go all in or nothing! No googling allowed! If I would have been right I could have been overly smug but now I have to be shamefully embarrassed... it was a risk I took willingly... I relied too heavily on the 360p-ness.

Why We Constantly Avoid Talking About Gun Control

oblio70 says...

"Do you want Smugness? Because THAT'S how you get Smugness!" Is all I want to repeat post-shooting / post-"let's not politicize" messaging.

The leftists here have become co-dependantly passive/aggressive.

Clint Eastwood Playing Piano

newtboy says...

But...it wasn't just one bad day, that was just the worst public display of his crazy hatred, but far from the only one.

It's also pretty loaded to say liberals piled on him....he smugly and intentionally picked a fight with insane over the top public disrespect and insult, getting the response he was begging for is hardly being piled on.

Fairbs said:

I've always liked Clint; I felt bad when he flamed out at the Republican convention and the liberals piled on him; I suppose some of it was fair, but eveyone's entitled to a bad day.

Why Australia should reject Gay Marriage

noims says...

a) I wonder how many people decided whether or not to watch a video with this title based on their current beliefs.

b) Imagine a dystopian future in which bigots are so discriminated against, they're not even allowed to marry other bigots for fear of raising bigot children. Wouldn't that be unfair.

c) I'm so smug that I upvoted this. Smuggety smug smug. Yeah, but at least it's better than being a cunt. To use the vernacular.

My Newt, let me bow down to the Oh Great Sage of the Sift.. OGSOTH..

Believe the bias of the fake news -- keep it up -- You and your ilk are the party of evil and debauchery. These are not American values.

PS: It's ANTIFA, I new you would correct that -- because you are so smug and arrogant....OGSOTH... Where I come from It's short for ANTI First Amendment.

Conservatives can not say a word with out these radicals showing up in masks , (so they don't shame their parents) and clubs .. Can you say Berkley? I bet you only have fond memories-- Bully

Don't kid yourself The left are the radicals of society and bloody its citizens that stand opposed to liberal ideas. Bullies.

' (meaning right wing, not the correct). That's not one radical group it's a conglomeration KKK, alt-right, nazi party, white nationalists, and generic right wing racists, all under the banner 'Unite the rightof many, all of which are firmly on your 'team', and the counter protesters were not so organized and were mostly non-affiliated locals protesting a hate march/rally in their town.

Way to stand with the Nazis, Bob. Nice job.

PS: It's ANTIFA, not ANFTA. It's short for ANTIFACIST. Know your enemy.

Never turn your back on the ocean

Diogenes says...

heh heh, this guy's having a laugh...

how could it be unexpected?? the sets come in at pretty well-timed intervals, the backwash for such a wave would be pulling backwards (hard) on his waist and thighs, and he'd have heard it

i grew up about a five-minute drive from sandy beach on oahu, and had my dad throwing me into the shorebreak from about the age of seven...laughing his ass off, while i'd stagger out of the surf half-drowned and with my sand-filled trunks around my ankles

here are some cool photos of the place by an old college buddy of mine:

Is There an Alternative to Political Correctness?

SDGundamX says...

@Diogenes

I'm not sure I'm following what you're saying. Why should a reasonable person be pissed off at a third party calling out offensive language use? To use a hypothetical:

I jokingly call my brother a "retard" because he locks his keys in the car. We grew up in the 80s, so this this pejorative is something we are comfortable with and feel no inhibitions about using. My brother laughs it off.

Now let's assume this happens in a parking lot as we're standing outside my brother's car and a woman passing by overhears my comment and chastises me for equating stupid actions with people who have mental disabilities.

Should reasonable bystanders watching all this be pissed off, since my comment wasn't directed at the woman? On the one hand, my brother and I weren't offended by the use of the word "retard" to mean stupid. On the other hand, our very usage of the word "retard" in that particular way promotes and sustains a culture that already heavily looks down on mental illness and mental disabilities.

I'm genuinely curious about your answer to this. If I'm reading your comment correctly, the primary negative of PC language that you see is that some people feel smug when they call out other people on their language usage. But does the fact that some people are smug about it make them wrong in pointing out the offender?

sally yates hands senator ted cruz his ass

harlequinn says...

I'm still waiting for the smug look to disappear.

She has an interesting line of reasoning, but is it her place to question the constiutionality of something and implement decisions based on that questioning such that it hinders the functioning of government? Her employers certainly didn't think so.

I could be wrong but i get the feeling anytime a senator trys to grill someone in a senate hearing, they get a pretty smug attitude/look.

He just got so worked over by her. What a tool

Thank You, Scott - SNL

newtboy says...

No sir. The Arab Spring happened because people actually got off their toilets and couches and marched in the street and occupied public spaces, standing up to harassment and violent attacks and paralyzing commerce, not because they just tweeted about it with a thumbs up tag. That's the part you seem to have missed.
True, they used social media to organize it, then acted, but that's not what the song is about, it's about people who are smug because they retweeted something and sat back waiting for their accolades.

If the end all message of your stated opinion is "resist" or "clap, clap, clap, clap" paired with your sole action of "recline", then yes, no one wants to see it, it doesn't really matter, and why bother muddying the waters for those who actually DO something more than nod knowingly? No? Expressing your opinion in a retweet is NOT action, it's barely a thought.

artician said:

Yeah, I do. It's the whole reason the Arab Spring happened. Literally from peoples tweets and posts on social media. It's how ideas spread today, as lame as it sounds.
I realize it gets tiresome to see people spread their opinions online that way. I have to wade through just as much of it as anyone else, but I felt like this video was encouraging apathy by making fun of people who did that. Basically saying "your opinion doesn't really matter, no one wants to see it, so why bother trying?"

CGP Grey: How Ad Revenue Works on YouTube

MilkmanDan says...

Really hard not to get a sense of smug superiority since uBlock Origin has kept me from seeing any of this Youtube ad crap for years. And somehow, I don't even feel guilty about it.

While the uninformed masses wallow pitifully in a mire of advertising, I gloriously dance on the surface of their pit of writhing flesh. I, God among insects, transcend their hellish torture of video ads and clickthroughs, reveling in the ability to watch whatever I want as soon as I click the play button! Muahahahaha!

...OK, maybe that strayed slightly beyond "smug superiority" and into "disturbing sociopath" territory. But it still feels good!

An authority figure offers an intelligent rebuttal

Did you get that job as a fortune teller?

Whilst we're making blanket assumptions about people we don't know, when did you realise you were racist? Was it the smug satisfaction you felt when you saw a black man mercilessly beaten or shot by the police on the internet, or before then?

And is it easier to hide your racism behind a veneer of support for the police, or better to hide your face under a white sheet so no one knows it was you? Which works better? Thanks for your reply in advance.

Rex Murphy | Free speech on campus

cloudballoon says...

I don't mind Rex's appearance, and I can say I usually agree -- and intrigued when I don't -- with his views, but what irk me most about watching his shows lately (that is, about the past 4~5 years) is his creeping smug delivery. It isn't showing in this particular segment though. But man... when he does it, I always goes "Is this at all necessary?"

Back to the topic at hand. Progressives really needs to get its act together. Juvenile crap like these zerg rushes are not serving anyone or any worthy causes. Just more ammunition for the Right to dismiss your argument.

You think Peterson's a wacko? Then let him talk all he wants to let others form their opinion that he's a wacko. I'd rather listen to him and try to figure out what the hell made him act/talk that way then give him the opportunity to say he's a PC "victim."

A Closer Look - Media Fawns Over Trump's New Tone

dannym3141 says...

So his statement on business was to brag about having some Harley Davidsons showcased to him on his presidential lawn? Why were tweedles -dum and -dee nodding along and smiling during that story?

What's his economic policy?
"I just met with some very smart people who are senior executives and stockholders for a great American company Goldman Sachs. In fact, they proudly introduced me to 3rd place 2011 Miss Sweden and we had a very relaxing jacuzzi together. And she offered to give me a handy under the water and i said no thanks."

So what if you had Harleys on your lawn you smug tosser? Tell us the business strategy.
