Ameca and the most realistic AI robots. Beyond Atlas.

Billions in losses at every factory may or may not be temporary, but it’s still billions in losses. The company’s value is based on pure speculation, not any semblance of profitability. As he downsizes, new much larger manufacturing lines are coming online from his competitors. He can’t get to 70% capacity to even break even because he can’t get chips, unlike his competitors. If investors become disillusioned, he goes broke and his company goes bankrupt.

Hiring!?! I guess you didn’t get the memo, they are downsizing by 10% across the board according to Elon, with more to come, because he expects sales to drop precipitously when his predicted depression occurs next year. (And because his other side projects aren’t generating cash flow he can pump into Tesla)

You have any other observations to have debunked?

A new factory does not become profitable until your up around the 70% full production capacity. Berlin and Texas just opened and putting out about 1000/week. This need to get to about 15000/week.

FOX news bitching about salaried layoffs -- And your point is what?

However, Tesla is hiring hundreds of factory floor employees.

The Daily Show - Samantha Bee's Goodbye

9547bis says...

Sam and Jason have a new show of their own starting soon. This was announced before Jon's replacement was named, which means it must have been planned several months before Jon even made the subject public. This also explains why at least Jason (don't know about Sam) went on the record fairly early saying he was not interested in taking over TDS.

This also raises the issue that some people may want to host 'their' show, but not TDS, a show with a very specific tone/theme, and quite time-consuming at that. People only think of the prestige, but filling in after a guy with a big rep and who was is own producer might not be the most comfortable of things. Especially if like Jon you end up with the sum total of 1 side project in 16 years.

That doesn't mean the TDS staff may not have been talking backstage early on (I can imagine them seeing Colbert, then Stewart walking away, or starting to talk about it, and some thinking to themselves that maybe it's time for a change), but they probably decided what to do on their own, way before any decision for TDS was definitive.

Everyone is jumping ship since Jon announced he was leaving. I wonder how much it has to do with Jon leaving or the fact that they picked someone who had only been on the show about 2 times to take his place over all the people who had been there 5-10 years.

Two of my faves.

If you like Jon Brion, do yourself a favor and check out his side-project with Jason Faulkner called The Grays back in the mid-90's.

They only released one album, but it was simply amazing.

meh, the 32bit cpu is still more impressive to be honest. but this is still awesome :3

Dunno, there is something a little more hard to plan with pistons and sequential circuits.

I have a pretty interesting and complex robotics project in the works, should be posting it soonish. Problem is, I always get sidetracked with 1000 other side projects. I also don't use creator mode, so everything takes longer.

someone needs to develop a videosift android app.... (Geek Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

Actually, I would like to look into it as a side project I can play around with at home, the problem is, I think, that for an android app to offer anything else than a mobile site (which we already have http://m.videosift.com/ ) it has to have direct access to the "core" and I'm not sure the good admins dare give me that.

Microsoft FUD (Blog Entry by dag)

Google's recent activity is worrying. Maybe I should be alarmed by them, but I'm not. Probably because Google is built on a core of innovation instead of copycatting and lawsuits. If Microsoft was a person (and I guess it is, according to the SCOTUS) then I would say it suffers from poor self-esteem. There must be a recognition of that within the company- that they have little innovation to be proud of - and that's what drives their company ethos. Oh and this of course.>> ^Croccydile:

I'm more worried about Google to be honest. They're starting to control too much information, spreading into every sector. They just launched a social network, will launch their own phone as well as operating system and so on... Not that M$ doesn't suck, but then again most corporations are evil. Yes, Apple too.

Speak of the devil... http://www.gaborcselle.com/blog/2010/02/remail-acquired-by-google.html
This is only one small company, but that is even beyond Microsoft to not only buy them, but remove the product. At least when Microsoft bought Visio they kept selling it!

I understand your concerns given Microsofts history, but at the same time you cite copycatting when you point to DR-DOS... which was well after the fact. Really that was just poor Gary Kildall trying to recoup the old glory that was CP/M since nobody else was using it by that point.

"IBM originally approached Digital Research, seeking an x86 version of CP/M. However, there were disagreements over the contract, and IBM withdrew. Instead, a deal was struck with Microsoft, who purchased another operating system, 86-DOS, from Seattle Computer Products."

Sorry Gary, you had the chance for what was the deal of the century and lost it to Microsoft who saw someone had already made a clone of CP/M, bought it, spruced it up, licensed it to IBM and made billions off a $50,000 investment. Are we really supposed to feel that bad for those who missed that boat in the 80s? Imagine how pissed the dude who sold 86-DOS must be right now.

(Sorry, just nitpicking because even though MS has been a copycat at times... you gave probably the worst example Don't worry we still love you. I would hardly say Microsoft is lacking innovation as well with all of the side projects they have been churning out lately. But I digress I am the Microsoft apologist since they are an easy target I feel the need to make a counterpoint)
