How sanctuary cities actually work
The sins of the father cast a large shadow.
Trump just really wants to get the bad guys out.
Ricky Gervais And Colbert Go Head-To-Head On Religion
Science is the search for truth, not god.
If you are conflating knowledge of the truth with closeness to god, I won't argue.
The more scientific discoveries that are made, the more I see the lack of a need for a "God(s)" to explain it all.
As I see it, God lives in the shadows of ignorance, whispering explanations of the unknown to those that can't accept the 'answers' are unknown, and every time the light of knowledge is directed into those shadows, we see there's nothing there but our imagination and 'God' recedes farther into the dark crevasses.
Religion is mans selfish interpretation of GOD.
( my GOD is the right GOD and yours is the wrong god)
Science is the search of GOD.
The more scientific discoveries made the more I see the creator.
Obamacare in Trump Country
@worm
you do realize that you literally just made @Januari 's point...right?
and i get it...government spending BAD.
government can't do anything blah blah blah...gotcha.
but instead of using the VA as an example of government malfeasance and incompetence, why not use medicare/medicaid?
the VA is run by the DoD and considering that during rumsfelds tenure they lost over a trillion american dollars..POOF..where is that money? nope..can't find it.the pentagon is a mess.
medicare/medicaid is run by the dept of health, which runs on a 3% overhead, has the ability to negotiate with pharmacuticals, and is a system that is already in place AND we all already pay in to.
see,
i am not a fan of obamacare.
i think single payer is the way to go,and the only way to go.
people like to make the comparison of obamacare insurance with car insurance.
forgetting that driving is a privilege...
breathing is not.
so if we take the "profit motive" out of health care.then the majority of people NOT covered would not wait until something dire or life threatening was going down with them to head to the doctor.preventive care has been shown to reduce medical costs dramatically.
see:norway
see:denmark
see:france
see:britain
while i understand many liberals defense of obamacare,i see it only a half measure that can easily be remanded and/or gotten rid of all together.however unlikely that may be.the threat will be enough.
people forget that obamacare was basically written by the heritage foundation in 1992.a right wing think tank and not much was changed (though the pre-existing clause was a positive).
they forget that then Governor mitt romney implemented a similar health care system in massechusetts.which saw steady increases in premiums yearly.
and here is the thing that really eats at me.
it is mandatory.
so here is my prediction:
obamacare is not going anywhere.
while it may be used as apolitical football and health insurance companies will use (and already HAVE used) the threat of leaving due to little or no money (this is a lie) in order to force the government to raise their subsidies.
this is corporate welfare on a scale that over-shadows the bank bailouts of 2007.which at final tally was over 17 trillion.
so obamacare is going nowhere because it is the goose that lays the golden egg,and the gift that keeps on giving.
oh there will threats, and over-politicizing,and wringing of hands, and committee meetings.
but that will be just for show.
we put the fox in charge of the henhouse, and the fox is gonna make damn sure it is going nowhere.
Nice Looking Music Visualizer
They need to put a shadow under the little red sliding block.

Star Citizen Vanduul driller 2016
So at the beginning of this video we see a canyon being lit by some bluish celestial body straight ahead. then a shadow from this ship hits the ground in the foreground but we are LOOKING at the light source and I don't see the ship blocking it. This is the kind of massive cheat that I just can't get behind.
pretty sweet for in-engine though, if that's what this was.
How the NFL's magic yellow line works.
I'd love it if they could paint a virtual shadow on the ground directly below high balls in rugby, football etc so you have some indication of depth. Guessing it is pretty tricky to know the ball's coordinates with sufficient accuracy.

How To Correct Donald Trump In Real Time
It's happening hardcore over here. It seems like sometime in the last 5 years, all the stops came out and it's become utterly shameless. They will say or do anything, and if they are wrong or found to be acting improperly they print a very small retraction - but the damage is already done. And other media outlets report on the false report!
Recently the Labour leader here has been repeatedly smeared by anti Semitism. They say his supporters are anti-Semites, that he doesn't express enough outrage in condemning anti-Semitism. The guy is famed for his tolerance and acceptance, says in almost every speech he gives that he wants to challenge any and all xenophobia, is the biggest cheerleader for women and minorities, has appointed the most diverse shadow cabinet in history, issued a full independent investigation into racism and abuse....... He does all of this, but now the stories are "claims of anti-Semitism appears to follow the Labour leader around" -- they are now reporting that they have reported false claims of anti-Semitism!
He doesn't even defend himself - he asks people instead to stop instrumentalising minorities to score political points. So then they claim he's not taking their false claims seriously enough and therefore not taking anti-Semitism seriously and the smear cycle goes on.
The worst thing about all of this is how complicit his opponents are in the game.... fair enough if you don't like him, it's ok to rubbish his policies. But this media misrepresentation is destroying a democracy that was already on its knees. And politicians, guardians of our society, manipulate and utilise this poisonous shit to get their way!
This year has completely turned me off politics again. To see what these people will to do an honest man has broken my spirit, but to that 70 year old bloke's credit, it hasn't broken his.
Jesus, how much do they need to do this.... but they fucking won't.
Journalism is failing democracy.

Liberal Redneck chimes in on NFL and the National Anthem
Something like this, very direct anti-shadow lighting.

Gets pretty distracting once you notice it, but a lot more compact than giant light diffusers.

People are awesome - best of 2016 so far
Yeah, he hits the tee, but he ONLY hits tee. If you freeze frame the moment before impact, you can see the club head is well below the ball, if he'd made any contact, at best the ball would have gone nearly straight up.
The flat lighting makes it hard to tell, but it also seems the ball's shadow disappears as soon as it starts to move.
Looks like he got under the ball. The tee moves. 1:46
Unity Adam Demo - real time
The short answer is "It depends!"
I know it's a crappy answer, but there are way too many parameters at play. There are many games today that have scripted scenes in them that are pretty cinematic. Think of GTA III, from 2001. The cut scenes in that game still outshine the actual gameplay of GTA V today.
If the scene is scripted, then all the animation, and camera movement can be fine tuned and all compute resources are pooled into the viewport of the camera. This allows the artists to focus all of the trickery on the shot itself, but not the rest of the world. From a PVS or scene-graph stand point, you have pretty much reduced the complexity to just what you are seeing.
I do not know how they made this demo and cannot comment on it with any authoritative capital. I've written 3D engines before (not for videogames though) and can comment on the technology I think I'm seeing here. My comments are just an opinion based on what I know. I do not have access to Unity and have never used it before. But here it goes:
For a scene like this, there should be reduced/canned computation in:
The shaders, unless they are geometry (the ripping of the skin/flesh in the Adam scene) could or could not be reduced in scope and complexity. I am not sure if they are scripted or dynamic. By scripted, I mean a geometry shader that reads vertex data from a VBO stream or some memory buffer instead of computing the vertices on the fly. It's still real-time, just not dynamic.
Most of the graphics you see here are standard applications of technology that's been around for a while:
The particle system seems pretty standard as well.
This is a great demo and I am extremely impressed with the art direction, but the engine itself is, after all, Unity with PBR for the characters, and maybe Global Illumation for the indoor scenes, which I believe they licensed from Geomerics.
How far behind do the playable game graphics tend to trail behind the demos?
Feels like it's about 2 years.
That's one of the reasons I enjoy demos, because I know that one day soon I'll get to play games with that level of graphics.
The science is in: Exercise isnt the best way to lose weight
At 1:43 the conclusion made from the graph is "5lbs at most" when the graph shows a different story. Those blue shadows on either side of the line show some kind of uncertainty whether it be best case and worst case scenarios or margin for errors.
I know that sounds like nitpicking, but it'd be like someone saying they love cars and know all about them, but when you ask what their favourite type of car is they say "red ones". It presents itself as scientific but then makes a high school level scientific mistake that just scratches at the surface of credibility.
[calories in] - [calories out] = [net calories absorbed or lost]
Calories are directly proportional to mass or weight. If you burn more than you ingest then you lose weight, it is unavoidable. The "best" way to lose weight is to be negative in the above sum, either by increasing your energy expenditure (exercise) or decreasing your energy intake (food). And of course the body needs essential vitamins and whatnot to function and remain healthy.
I have a friend who took tablets to increase his resting metabolism. He lost weight, but also sweated profusely, had a high heart rate that worried him and regained the weight straight after coming off them.
