Canada's new anti-transphobia bill

dannym3141 says...

Sounds like an exercising in rearranging the furniture on the Titanic to me.

In a world where discrimination and separatism is qualitatively and quantitatively on the rise, people in charge must be ecstatic that they can appease people without having to do anything meaningful that might piss off the extremists on the right, or "shareholders". And people are so used to being told that change is only possible through incremental adjustments that they'll eat it up like candy and think this is progress.

"People people people, if you're going to call someone a filthy tranny and throw fast food at xem on public transport, at least use the proper pronoun when you verbally abuse xem."

When there's a hole in the boat and you're taking on water, the least of your concerns should be about what language you use to describe the in-rushing water or shape of the hole, nor arguing over the colour of the material you use to repair it.

I'm sure some people will see this as a victory. Until next time they apply for a job and not get hired due to transphobia. And the manager of the company, with a gleam in their eye, begins the rejection letter with 'Dear bun/bunself', then sniggers to themselves and says "fucking trannies."

What I'm trying to say was summed nicely in a tweet i saw the other day:
ALTRIGHT/NEO NAZI: your all going to the gas chambers!!!
NEOLIBERAL: you're*

If this is the extent of what activism is able to achieve, i should say that the establishment/elite have won by pacifying and declawing the protesters. It's no longer about breaking the shackles of oppression. We can't go around breaking shackles everywhere - think of the effect on the economy? And what about people getting hit by shrapnel? No, instead the LGBTQ community will be given multi coloured chains, the black community will be given slightly longer chains, and we'll pad the shackles with silk so that everyone is much more comfortable. Don't complain about the concept of being chained, instead complain that your chain is not as nice as the next guy's chain.

It's as though the great struggle of protest and civil disobedience has been taken over by the liberal intelligentsia, and the worst kind of discrimination faced by a 20 year old middle-class university student with rainbow coloured dreadlocks and a nose piercing is the letter they receive about their student loan that begins "dear sir/madam". So they go out and march about it and think they've made progress when they get their own pronoun. In their life, in their experiences, they are treated equally in other respects, so they think they ARE fighting inequality.

But for the working class male or female transsexual who gets filthy looks and a seat isolated by themselves on public transport, to travel to their entry level job where they've been skipped over for promotion for not looking the part, or getting the right level of respect from the trans-phobic staff, getting snide whispered comments from customers about the size of their hands, getting abuse yelled at them as they travel to have a night out at the ONLY trans-friendly bar within a 20 mile radius....... I get the feeling that receiving a letter with the correct pronoun isn't exactly going to change their fucking lives.

To remove a weed, you go for the roots. Some wanker calling you him/her when you prefer bun/bunself is not the root of this problem. The problem is that they are trans-phobic, not the language - which is just the tool they use to discriminate against you. To change the language and think that you've won is a bit like redefining room temperature and claiming you've warmed everybody by a few degrees.

If you march for equal rights, fair pay, fair treatment then people are going to see that and join your protest because they also want those things. Those things will solve the problems faced by the trans community, feminists, masculinists, minorities alike! And through common goals and by supporting each other en masse for simple, unified goals like EQUALITY, progress will be made, change will happen. It is a concept called solidarity and seems to be going out of fashion, but our grandparents knew.

The objective for the establishment is to drive a wedge between groups of people so that their demands are more manageable, and they can be turned on each other. Feminists, masculinists, LGBT, everyone... can't you see how better off you'd be marching together for common values that lie at the core of what every human wants?

Wall of text, sorry... and I know it looks like i'm being insensitive. So congratulations, genuinely, for getting someone to use your preferred pronoun if that makes you feel better. But whilst people have been fighting tooth and nail to get their own pronoun (in civilised settings only), we've suffered huge leaps backwards in freedom and tolerance behind their backs whilst they were bent over intently concentrating on the finer detail of what their ideal equality looks like.

I love this but why are they so dumbfounded about the dog on the trampoline? Timing was perfect on all the shots but if my dog immediately started jumping on a trampoline I would be like, "Coooooooooooool -- doggy!" Then I'd be jumping along with him. Like immediately.

Now, I know it's not the same grounded story arc, but what if she walks outside and all the animals are still jumping about and there's a queue of additional animals leading out of the backyard into an enchanted forest? That would dumbfound me.

But it wouldn't be about the dog, so I guess it doesn't work.

But maybe he rushes past the other animals, knocking them over like dominoes, then rambunctiously jumps around the trampoline like a buffoon tossing around the critters who were once jumping in coordination. Now pan out: "Gifts that everyone will love"

I think human errors and series of failures are often brought about by situations exactly like rushing to complete a deadline?

That's when people stop following the checklist/procedure or are overtired and not paying enough attention after a long shift or the third week of overtime.

I'm not referencing this particular situation per se or the blame part, but that's what came to mind when I read your comment.

Interesting.

So the blame is not really BP rush to get the system and running as media reported but more of a series of failures and some human errors.

Glen Ford: Apocalypse Hillary

"The Trump campaign is in its death throes, and Hillary cannot be stopped. But she can be slowed down in her rush to war. Those “progressives” that were resigned to cast their vote for Hillary out of fear of Trump have no reason to tremble at the prospect of an orange presidency. Rather, they should be terrified of Hillary Clinton getting the kind of landslide that she will interpret as a mandate for war with Russia – a war in defense of al-Qaida in Syria."

Call it what you will. To me, massive illegal immigration with the goal of territorial control is invasion...no matter why they invaded. Invaders always have a reason.
Hence my making the distinction between Arab and Jewish controlled Palestine. Officially the British were still ruling over Palestine, but in most practical ways, Palestine was already divided before the mass immigration started. There was essentially Jewish Palestine and Arab Palestine, and the normal conflicts between close neighbours with different religion were already significant before the illegal immigration. Of all the places for Jewish Europeans to flee to, the land already in the possession and control of welcoming Jewish Palestinians hardly stinks of invasion to me.

Sorry, I know I tried to refocus on what they should have done and immediately leapt off the rails myself.

You said:
should have fought the Nazis, not the mostly blameless (for the atrocities) Palestinians
A majority of them that made it into Britain and America did just that. In fact, so many fought against the Nazis that when the civil war in Palestine came to a head and WW2 veteran Jewish soldiers started showing up it's counted part of the Arab narrative as 'western' support and part of the unfair military advantage that made Israel the mighty power and the Arab league army the underdogs.

You said:
The U.S. was open...if they could get here.
No, nothing was open. As pictures of the camps spread, doors started opening but that was very much after the fact. Leading up to and during WW2 immigration numbers were very restricted to jewish people. There simply was absolutely no legal immigration option for thousands and thousands of Jewish Europeans.

You said:
neighbors and allies try to secure their borders that are being crossed by invaders
You misunderstand my statement on the Arab League member's intentions. They had NO intention of defending their neighbouring Arab Palestinian's land. Sure, publicly they declared a joint effort to liberate Palestine. Each member nation though was stating that as code for liberate a portion of Palestine by making it a part of themselves. Israel was able to take the best equipped and trained Jordanian army out of the battle without a single shot fired by agreeing with them to simply abandon the portion of Palestine that Jordan proceeded to make a part of itself. The other Arab states made similar bids militarily, refusing to co-ordinate their assaults because each wanted to declare the ground gained their own. As they each rushed their offensives and attacked individually Israel had the time to plant 100% of their forces in the path of each of them.

You asked:
Should I think you call Turkey an invader of Daesh, and you a supporter of Daesh?
In the sense that you are asking, it's a near yes. The original Syrian resistance is a group I really do support, and the Kurdish fighters have largely been on their same side and I support their efforts there as well. Daesh was much more interested in killing the 'legitimate' resistance than Assad and Putin's forces. Similarly, the Russians have made it a firm practice to exclusively attack the 'legitimate' resistance and doing their best to largely not bother attacking Daesh unless forced to. The main reason being that once Daesh is all that's left, the scorched earth fix becomes all the more easily justified, and the actual rebels pose a much more real and legitimate alternative to Assad's government than Daesh.

THE TURING TEST Trailer (2016)

ForgedReality says...

It reminded me of Half-Life 1 when they did that face reveal. All that build-up and I was expecting something amazing. Then, bam! That unholy abomination. It's hardly even recognizable as humanoid. Holy shit, how is this considered a finished product?

Yeah I get it. Graphics don't make the game. But they do help you to get more immersed in the world and lose yourself in the lore. Something this dated coming out in 2016 just feels rushed and lazy.

Prior to that face, the walking animation was really bugging me especially with the way the legs moved once the feet hit the ground. Just totally unnatural.

I don't know about 2001, but there are some seriously low res textures in there and stiff animation. It certainly doesn't look much better than a modified version of the source engine.

Why you shouldn’t drive slowly in the left lane

jmd says...

Im never in a rush so I am usually at the speed limit or a little above if the right lane is very congested. Keep in mind im in fl, so the speed limit is 70.

Slow drivers in the left on i95 isn't usually a problem, what is usually the problem is 1) people who pass but DON'T move to the center lane for people going faster behind them, and 2) impatient fucks who won't let you get more then a cars length in front of the person on the right and will proceed to cut THEM off to pass YOU on the right side.

You have no idea how many times ive had to be the car that plugs up the right lane when a truck has needed to move left and cant move right again because everyone proceeds to pass it on the right.

As much as this video has merit, it doesn't cover that many if not most drivers are shit drivers.

Mea Culpa Notarobot and @dannym3141 ... I'd clicked on a 'suggested' video link to the right of a watched one because it looked interesting [and it was]. I hadn't seen any of this guys videos before and had no idea this was one of "those" channels. I too shun this type of rip-off. My apologies for not noticing the ruse as I was rushed and didn't look closely at the channel itself. I'd be happy to kill this if that's the consensus ... lemme know

notarobot said:

This youtube poster didn't credit the artists, nor the photographers, for the stolen images. Then stuck his watermark on them. That's all this guy does. His entire channel is just ripping off other people's images and making a slide show set to music.

I don't know how much stock I'd put in the timestamp, given that the date is clearly very wrong. Having said that, it does seem safe to assume based on the amount of cars on the road that it's some sort of rush hour.

According to streetview, contrary to the description, breakdown lane travel is legal on this stretch of road from 6-10 AM and 3-7 PM ans according to the dashcam the time of this vid is 9:53 AM.
